VET MX International joins forces with Kreft suspension to bring us this super sweet KTM 300SX. KTM introduced EFI two strokes into their motocross line in 2023 and we're wondering, could this be the ultimate vet weapon?
Interesting.. My '24 doesn't have any of that AFR vacillation. It pulls clean from bottom to top-although, yes...when it signs off, it signs off. Green map extends the over-rev, and I've found a Bill's(at least) extends the over-rev even further. I'm told PC does as well, but I haven't ridden with one. One thing I did notice on mine, when it's idling in neutral, if you rev it up it acts loaded up. Doesn't do it in gear so didn't bother me. Switched to T2 and that was GONE. Hits harder off the bottom too. I went up to a 50T and almost always ride in the green map now, and it'll easily wheelie in 3rd coming out of corners. Remember, they have north of 55hp, and 450-like torque, so they're not slow. I'm 56 and absolutely love the thing. Isn't anywhere near as heavy as a 450, and doesn't have all that inertia spinning in the motor, so it turns in easier, corners better, and is a lot easier to throw around everywhere
Ping always got the taste and style. The best thing with ping is that this dude takes his time to test, not just one weekend, he puts many hours to really give people a solid foundation. Good stuff!
One thing I really like about Ping is that he won’t bullshit. I’m sure that there are companies out there who get butt hurt by that but; it’s what the viewers want! He seems like a good honest dude. I’ve been a fan of his since 1997 when I really started watching SX/MX.
Excellent attention to detail! I'm very impressed with the build, and, as always, Ping's honesty. A linear powerband with a bit of bark is exactly what I want in a powerband at age 53 vs. what I wanted at age 23, which was much different. Having to fight a bike with a ton of bark wears me out much quicker at this age, especially when racing against guys on four strokes who are lugging their way around the track. I absolutely agree that the EFI will probably need a bit to be perfected, so until then, I'll stick to my carbureted KTM 250SX. I would've loved to thrown a leg over this so I could compare it to my bike, as well as give some feedback on it as a vet intermediate rider. Great review though!
I've been waiting on this video for a while 👍. I cant disagree with anything you have said but i am the guy that LOVES this package. I do alot of woods racing and MX im not very competitive in the VET MX world as I am the woods but i love my bike!!! Ill try to drop a video later this week on mine and my feelings as well.
Two Stroke Performance in Australia make a new bit of tech that plugs into the ecu and allows a person to change the mapping and remove error codes.. its expensive but worth the money especially if you are riding at different elevations and tracks..
Another great bike review. I have a 22 250sx and I agree with you about waiting a few years to work out some of the bugs on these new efi bikes. Love my smoker!
My 2017 TX300 with Lectron carb is the best running engine I have ever ridden. The Lectron carbs when they are perfectly adjusted are magic. I want the EFI bikes to just be better but they just aren't so far. Sometime soon a tuner will invent something that fixes the bugs.
Cool video and great review! I regularly race the @internationalvetmx series and quite a few racers are ripping these bikes with #kreftsuspension. Definitely some fast old guys out there and those 20+ min Motos are no joke 😜. Thanks for spreading the word on the IVMX series and Kreft 👍
Great video with honesty, a rarity in the socal media scene! Speaking from personal experience, you are spot on - I’d give these two more years to sort out some their issues. Lots of undiagnosed bikes getting sold because ktm can’t find a fix.
The pipe is the limiting factor on that build and not revving. I had the FMF on mine and sold of it as soon as @Bill's Pipes came out with their pipe. The @Scalvini revs out even a bit more. Haven't been able to try the @PC yet. Ping, I like you but you're a pro caliber rider and the overwhelming majority of us are not. For me, as an old guy, this bike is an amazing machine and at some of the more technical tracks I race my lap times are better on the 300SX.
Same the fmf killed the topend. I went with the full pc platinum and 304 shorty and it revs just fine. I've been racing 250 and 3002t for over 20 years and it's k own that the 250 revs higher. The 300 is 72x72 the square bore and stroke isn't going to rev kike a 250
That was a pretty tough and blunt review. I’d be curious to see how a GasGas 300 (carb) might do? One of the reasons it might go flat is because it’s a big bore.
There is a reason the 300 2smoke is king of hard enduro and it ain't because of sharp power band and lots of over-rev. You can potentially tune a Fi bike to make the kind of power you want but it will never feel like a carb bike.
They need a 350 2 stroke class. That would be the top class in MX. 4 strokes do not eminate the same feeling as 1 strokes. They need to get their heads out of their you know what's.
I rode a '24 300SX with a flash from the company in Florida, has the Ohlins fork spring insert with the other leg being air, Enzo shock re-valve and PC exhaust. I'm a Vet rider and I liked it a lot more than a '22 FC350 and my '22 YZ250F. The 300 is what I'd like the 4t's to be. The owner is 10 hours in, but wants back on a 450. He will let it go for $8.2k! with the $1.7k fork kit. As for a 'fun' smoker, for that I have a STIC SuperX carb'd 200SX w/'06 chassis and '17 YZ front end....YAT. Anywho, I immediately felt confident and comfortable and it took care of my less than well executed inside ruts. I will only do this purchase, bc I won't have to dial it in. Otherwise I'm STIC carb man, all the way.
I noticed the lack of over rev when i got my 300sx. But you get used to it and keeping it lower in the rpm. Besides that linear power is better. That means it's making more power with a wider powerband. It would be a mistake to go back to an old school powerband because the only way to do that would mean getting rid of the low end power just to have it spike at higher rpm.
Ping I love your videos man!!! I really want one of those but I'm hearing there blowing up like crazy! I really appreciate how you tell the truth and don't Candy cote shit!! Think I'm going to hold off on pulling the trigger on one!!
what happened with dragon optical ping? i still run them. since 01 and if i recall you signed in 01 also, well i didnt sign but ive wearing them since 01. i just wondered where they went in moto.
Dissapointed in fmf with there pipe and silencer there on the bottom when it comes to performance on this thing bills and pc are the way to go if you want more rev and twisted developments ecu is the way to go completely changes the bike
All they need to do is make it as crisp as a 125 that revs high That's how a 2 stroke works best then have 2 maps that reduce the power 1 with full power with a couple of years to get sorted they should be taken off sale
If I was a money man I'd start buying up those 125-250cc KTMs years 17-22", years down the road they will be sought after for there simplicity of carburation
He’s right on the money. I really think KTM is going to ruin the beauty of 2 strokes with their FI. Jetting a carb is way easier then all the silliness with the fuel injected bikes.
There is no issue with maps. This bike is not marketed to people like ping. How many pro level riders are in the market for a vet focused bike? LOL! He says the bike goes lean at certain throttle positions. That is kinds hard to believe at 60:1.
Why can’t the factory get it right before they sell it. So you have to spend a ton of money for pipes ecu’s and other stuff to get it right. Ktm’s are a premium bike. Shouldn’t have to spend more money
I disagree. My KTM 250 is way better than my son’s YZ250. They both have less than 20 hours on them & are stock. The YZ hits harder, but I can ride my KTM faster, because I can trust it. Yes, it’s more predictable, but it also puts out more power. The YZ may feel more exciting with the harder hit, but that’s not what I want. I don’t want a surprise.
I'm with you completely, I raced 125’s in the 1990’s and I was never mechanically inclined, I doubt my bikes were ever jetted right and I think I would have finished better if I had smoother more trusted power delivery. I was scared of looping out on jumps. I would bog and then sometimes hit hard etc
@@MX-COit could be the main jets but it's most likely how the bikes are,125s are very peaky engines and you have to revv the tits off it to make power they are basically all like that 250s are more mellow on the power delivery 300s have more linear power than a 350four stroke
From watching and listening to the bike in your video, it looks and sounds slow, you are right when it gets up in the rpm it quits pulling, I guess it will take a few years to get it right, I believe I will stick with the tried and true yz 250, it’s like a sore Peter you can’t beat it
@@panic-revv85 what models are yours I’m talking about the new fuel injection ones, the carb ones will rev out and snap your neck , these fuel injection ones do not have the snap and over rev like a carb bike ,
@@buddysumner4022 I've got a 300 TBI. Stock it pulls significantly harder than my mod yz. It is much more linear which is great for most people. I love the Yz, but that motor has nothing on the new TBI set-up. The bike in Pings vid didn't sound like it ran too clean to me.
I actually did feel that with my 2023 TC125 I was wide open 5th gear hitting 6th but yeah the power dropped off. I came from a KX100 but the carb bikes hit differently especially with the pack a punch powerband just for that short window. Still the bike is enough for me especially the linearity of the power.
