+Rory Costello it beats the 3770 in almost all applications, and in multithreaded it destroys it for 1/3 the price. Intel now, without competition, overprices everything they sell. AMD cannot keep up in single threaded applications, while Intel can't do multithreaded. They did attempt with "hyperthreading" which is a fancy word literally meaning nothing of value. Have you heard about that? That's fucked up
+Adz Playz That would be interesting. I've thought about throwing in my old SSD in my current build and loading Vista with my FX-8350 and R9 380 and see how it runs.
+gbvenom Bus 14 The betas were named accordingly: Windows :), Windows :D and Windows XD. The next release was then called Windows XP, which was released in 2001.
That's pretty much what happened to me when I found out my motherboard was actually built to support 64-bits! However, there was no software or hardware available to utilize it back in the day. I did end up installing 64-bit Windows 7 on the machine nearly ten years later.
I remember watching when I was a kid some chinese guys trying to overclock a cpu to 5GHz. They used liquid nitrogen and did keep it on only for like seconds. They won some prize and everybody was astonished about the acomplishment, including me. Now people buy 9700k from the shop and overclock it in their mother's basement on some improvised cardboard stand with some $100 cooler and voila, it works like crazy under 80 degrees. Moore was fucking right, gotta give him that boys.
@@valentinpopescu98 well fabrication process is also the reason see now amd had 7nm and intel had 10nm both are cooler at same clock speeds than old first gen i7 or even core 2 era and phenom eror even futher to pentium era also intel vs amd theoretically now amd is cooler with same speed 5ghz as example
Shiro Craft yeah, I know how it actually works, but it’s still so mind blowing thinking about the advancements we’ve made in 10-15 years. People saw it coming, but they were half right. They expected mainstream 5 ghz cpus much earlier, they also said we were going to reach crazy clocks like 7, 8, even 10 ghz. It didn’t go like that, clocks capped hard at 4 ghz for years, so they made a core based architecture to be able to increase processing power, so now we ended up with 6, 12, 16, I think I saw servers with mainstream 32 cores and like 2,4 Ghz which is still really crazy. It’s not actually the architecture that makes them cooler, they are hotter. In a 7nm arm cpu are much more transistors than in a 20nm (I think that was the architecture in early to late 2000s cpus), so they are hotter if we are talking just about the architecture . The thing is they are cooler because of the voltages. Coffee lake has 1,2V I think. Pentiums had 1,6-1,7 or something like that. As far as I know even the k cpus which are made to be overclocked are to max 1,3V, if I’m not mistaken. So yeah..
+Richard Tech well i will be honest os x performs dam well with gaming hardware i7 4790k 16gb's of ram and a high end video card but sadly nvidia doesnt fare well on a hackintosh
Luis Mercado Yeah, but then, if you're going to use an emulator, your XP machine won't do any better than any other OS. If you want to run DOS games natively without any issues, you need to be on Windows 95 or maybe 98.
I still use windows 98 SE on a daily bases (in fact im posting from it now). Since its a 16bit operating system, viruses that exist for this system that are still alive are extremely hard to come by. Any 32-bit modern virus would just fail to run on a windows 98 system.
I was trying to make a minesweeper joke, A week ago I tried to install windows 2000 on my dell dimension e520 Specs: Intel Core 2 duo HDD: 1 TB Ram: 6 GB CPU: 1.86 GHz I also have a sony trinitron crt monitor Also is there any wifi dongles that support windows 2000 and I'm not sure windows 2000 will support my windows xp hardware (which I optimized to run some special games
I hope you realize Windows 2000 doesn't support a lot of your specs. These are the medium requirements for Windows 2000. 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU. 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness [4 gigabytes (GB) RAM maximum.] 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 650 MB of free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.) Windows 2000 Professional supports single and dual CPU systems.
You are not limited to DirectX 9.0C. There is a patch that can give your XP rig DirectX 10 support. 3D Space Cadet Pinball is still quite popular, it is available on the internet to download onto newer OS like Windows 10. A better GPU for this build would be the Nvidia GTX Titan X Maxwell 12gb video card. While there is no official Windows XP driver for it, you can use a modified driver for the GTX 960 that will work on it just fine. With this card, you would have a complete rig that you could dual boot between Windows XP and Windows 10, and be able to play all the old games and all the new ones on the same machine.
that would be amazing performance a OS that could handle it's self under a MB and less then 512kb memory to operate on.... pure performance, get directx and opengl on first OS then I will be impressed....
really... i'm running windows 98 on an old PC with a PC with duel core(AMD6000+) 3.0 GHZ cpu i am currently trying to get 6GB of ram in it and not just 1.... 2GB+ the system wont boot it just loads the shutdown screen....
Windows 3.1 was still an elaborate DOS program, it wasn't until Windows 95 that it was an actual operating system, and even that ran on the DOS kernel. (And before someone says it, yes I know Windows NT came out before 95.)
XP was with me thru high school (when I finally saved enough to replace my 486 machine), got me thru college, post-college recession scare, and the beginning of graduate school. A truly generation-defining OS. I stuck with it until 2011, and I was really reluctant to move on, as it felt like a chapter of my life would end. Computers saw almost an order-of-magnitude improvement over the period this OS was dominant. Crazy...
Xp is also mine childhood, playing flash games or watching my dad playing rainbow six blew my mind. I had my own acer windows 98 pc next to me, sadly it died and i dissasembled it and sold the working parts.
Just as an FYI, last time I checked, if you want a modern browser, the newest version of Opera works fine in XP mode. Also, if newer CPU's are going to stop support for Windows 7/8, maybe make the ultimate Windows 7 PC. I know it'll still support most if not all GPU's for the foreseeable future, but it's just a thought.
Usin' XP right now! When you have Firefox as your main browser, it's virtually indistinguishable from other modern OSes. Most programs run flawlessly. Plus, it doesn't spy on you and runs a hell of a lot faster if you apply a few mods on it!
Who cares about spying, spy on you playing games? Watching porn? Downloading songs, movies and games illegally off the internet? They don't care about those things :/
My porn preferences shall be known to nobody but me!!! Haha, I get you - I could argue that the bandwidth being taken up by my information being sent to Microsoft unwillingly to "improve" the services that I never use in the first place is a pain in the ass - but to be honest, it's the principle that matters to me. I'm not comfortable with the idea that an organization is trying to collect my data so they can shove more ads in my face. That's why I don't agree with the "If you ain't got anything to hide, you have nothing to worry about!" philosophy. Besides, I just like the functionality of Windows XP - that's my main reason for using it.
I could argue that I would rather Microsoft take up a little bit of bandwidth and do a little bit of anonymous spying on me to serve me ads that I might actually be interested in rather than the likelihood of being a part of a botnet and having a hacker spy on me, getting ads for stuff like viagra and shit... Also you can turn off the services that Microsoft uses to "spy" on you... lol
+The Sonic Sega Nerd I get and respect what you saying, different strokes for different folks. I always make sure my webcam is off so that win10 doesnt send footage of me stroking one out to ms servers😂
Brandon Kruger Hahaha thanks xD Jonathan Gray It's all good dude haha. Personally, I've never seen a single ad online that I cared about. I also work in I.T. and am very aware of security. I've never had any viruses or attacks with Windows XP. It's just a difference in opinion!
First, I'm not an edgy teen. If you're looking for actual edgy teens to belittle, search elsewhere. Second, Windows XP was not 32-bit exclusive. It was available for 64-bit systems in a special 64-bit edition of the operation system. Third, Overwatch was just added as an example since it has some demanding video card requirements. I did not intend to imply on owning the game, because I don't have it. So, for many users, XP is what they get by with--reason being older hardware or the nostalgia factor. XP is my personal guilty pleasure that I am OK with admitting. You can certainly judge, but doing so won't get anybody anywhere.
I decided to try this build this weekend with a few changes. I have the same mobo but with the FX-8350 and got my hands on. Windows Xp 64bit. Also, in order to get the Ethernet working. I used the Qualcomm atheros AR8161 driver, which is working like a charm so far. But I do have a wireless adapter installed just in case. Now, on to installing No One Lives Forever 2. ;-)
+LetsGetStarted I miss Pinball on my school's PC. One day, I couldn't find Pinball anymore even though it was still on the same Windows 7 version. Weird... You have a link for Windows 10 Pinball?
@@himmelskibet Well, more of a 4 module CPU, but with each module containing 2 cores, which is why Windows Task Manager (on Windows 10 atleast) reads it as a 4 core CPU because its counting the number of modules instead of the actual cores, but I do agree the Piledriver and Bulldozer microarchitecture was a disaster.
***** The clock rate alone does not determines how fast a processor is, Instructions Per Clock or IPC do and this chip is severely lacking when stacked against even a 6600 for example. Getting to a high clock rate is pretty meaningless if the chip just can't handle instructions as fast as a competition chip with 4 less logical threads and 2 less ghz on clock speed.
+dimitriid He never said it was a top notch CPU, he just said '' One of the fastest'' and '' Can wipe the floor with some current gen CPU's both not lies at all. A) It runs a 5Ghz, which is the CPU'S SPEED meaning his quote of '' one of the fastest* has some truth to it and yeah, the 9590 can wipe the floor with some corrent CPU's, probly the mid range ones or the low mid range ones
I wish XP was supported for longer. Forever maybe It's UI is so nice looking and it's built in Microsoft Sam gives me a good laugh. Windows Vista's glass is fine too but they've been milking it far too much.
To be fair, it had already been supported for thirteen years. To put that into perspective, when Windows XP came out, the 5GB iPod was a brand new gadget, America was still mourning in the wake of 9/11, and the movie Shrek had people in a laugh.
I know man, just kidding. I could never forget the pentium 4 generation. My first PC was a pentium 4 of 2.4GHz. Back in the days (2003) I was the kid with the most powerful PC. :)
While interesting, that strikes me as a bit overkill... :) But perhaps that was the point. I still have a XP box in the office for testing purposes, it is a Dell Core2Quad Q6600 machine with a dual boot between XP and Windows 10, each running on their own SSD. For a 10 year old computer, it runs amazingly well, even modern Windows programs, with a 5 year old GPU installed, it will play games as well, so long as you don't expect Mirror's Edge Catalyst to run. :)
Whoa GEESE! That motherboard is up to modern standards. Toslink out, ALC1150 audio driver, modern durability features, and yet still AM3/AM3+ for that Windows XP support. AMAZING! Not to mention graphics strong enough to run Doom Eternal with moderate settings-2013 card outperforming low end 2017 cards good gracious. Wait hold on, you're using an SSD on Windows XP? That SSD better have decent garbage collection to be running on a NON-TRIM system.
+Xaiv55 heck no. i used to have a atlhon 800, 768mb of DDR RAM, vooodoo2 in SLI (then upgraded to a Geforce 2 GTS, and later to a geforce 4 ti4400) running windows 98. and even that was not the "ultimate" by a long shot. when was xp out again? i got that geforce 4 in 2002 i think, and by then i had a 1.4ghz atlhon.
No OS will ever be more successful and seamless than windows xp, the desktop background gives me a year in my eye from nostalgia. Good ol' days of Adobe flash games including newsgrounds and eddsworld gives me a tear in my eye from nostalgia ;)
+harrvey LOL...back in the day, I had an actual Win. 2.03 Compaq luggable with a 'cutting edge' 80286, and a massive 20 meg HD. IIRC, it ran at a whopping 12 Mhz!
MineVideo It runs good but not great on my PC, but then I did install loads of mods. GTA V did the same thing, so yeah. Mods are responsible. The proof is in the pudding.
Oh yeah it is. It is great for a dusty system controlling an industrial AC unit or security system not connected to the internet is about it. It only does 4 gigs of ram. Chrome can easily use it all up. No virtualization support, more than 4 cores, modern hardware, wifi /N, thunderbolt, NFC printing, or even freaking bluetooth! It also lacks basic security and you are stuck on an ancient version of Firefox or old IE that can't even render websites anymore since Chrome dumped XP support. It is from a different era. Move on
I tried to Use Algodoo on XP It burned up the Processor after 1 week so If your using Algodoo dont use XP for it (No Offense to Algodoo there still amazing) or maybe the machine was old WIndows XP was released in 2001 We got the machine last month from a friend but it was made in 2005 I can tell because the Processor Was an AMD Athalon X2 Were trying to fix it
One weird thing I've noticed about Pinball. The performance in my experience is worse on more powerful hardware than on less powerful hardware. That is at least when installing it on newer OSs. I have found a workaround though and that is to go into msconfig and make Windows start in a single core. It's weird, but it fixes most issues. The low framerates without doing this can make it easy to lose track of the ball. I would've liked to see how it ran on this computer in a 60 fps video.
I was wondering, Austin, You can make a PC that can run almost every game for $350, But can you make a PC that just cant run anything, something that lags on browser games
Well, Linux OSs work on practically everything with no problem(with a few exceptions, of course) so there's probably not much of a point in that. However, it would be cool if one or two more of the big tech RU-vidrs talked about Linux.
I still have a laptop with Windows XP on it for work use, I have various programs that interface with OBD2 on cars, some old parts catalogues, EEPROM machines etc. that don't work on anything else. For security I've pulled out the wireless and bluetooth cards. There is one more thing you could do to make this machine better - use two memory modules for dual channel RAM. The FX CPUs are hungry for memory bandwidth because the cache design isn't the best - it does make a difference.
The bucketlist: 1. Do an awesone DOS PC (486/P75/P90) 2. Do an awesone W95/W98 machine (200MMX/233MMX) 3. Do an awesome WIN2000/XP machine (hardware enough for gta 3).
Hey, I know I'm kinda late (like, 6 freakin months) but, if you could, would you make a Linux Gaming Build? Our community is growing stronger and it would be nice to see it represented in such a big channel
Rodrigo Machado If he makes it work after formatting his drive, making his gpu explode due to driver failures in a Linux distribution, and if he doesn't die while trying to make sense of the terminal, that you need for the simplest task in a distribution nowadays.
TheLazyWanderer no clue where you got your info but Linux is quite user friendly. I rarely have too open the terminal anymore. (Ubuntu 17.10) best GUI iv ever used and makes my old laptop run a few years newer.
+Purifier Phoenix The Mecca Windows 10 is probably the best OS ever made to date. Staying in Windows XP is bloody stupid. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Windows XP and used it for almost 9 years, but there's no reason not to update.
It's actually 2286 Games. Windows has 8919 Games and OSX 3432 So basically every 4th Game on Steam is out for Linux. And every 2.6th Game is out for OSX
In my school (try not to laugh) there are Windows ME computers running....... And maximum is Windows 7, with few good Windows XP PCs. Also, oddly enough, the PC which I use along with my two friend s has 4GB RAM with Windows XP while others had 2GB RAM with Windows 7 Bruh.
