Is this the ultimate Zippo Lighter Collection Box? Having just got his hands the entire deagostini zippo lighter collection, Jonathan thought this was the perfect time to create a custom case and line it with phone to properly display this collection with pride!
Sourcing from local charity shops, and fitted with premium Shadow Foam, Jonathan sets to work in creating what he has deemed as the Ultimate Zippo Lighter Collection Box! Zippos are kinda that thing you collect knowing you'll probably never make big money from it. Unless you get ahold of some vintage ones from the war. I feel like most people collect them based on what they like. Racing fans collect all the NASCAR, for example... They come with lifetime warranties. So Zippo honestly needs you to own more than one.

@@ShadowFoam I have two of them, not gonna be much of a collector. I have an armor type, and a 360° design with high polish black. I use a butane insert Zippo makes to make it work like a Bic lighter. I don't smoke cigarettes, but I needed a good lighter for EDC. Which means the fuel can't be evaporating all the time. Not gonna use it much, but it needs to work when I do use it.

I have a nice little collection myself. But years ago my ex wife lost my favorite one. It was a brass or gold colored with a star in the top where you open the lighter. On either side of the star I had my initials engraved in it. We were on a 2 person raft in North Carolina and she got this look in her eyes and tipped the raft . Now the lighter is at the bottom of a lake in NC. someplace. I can't find it anywhere it was a special edition.

Back in 1961, there was a customer who returned his Zippo stating that the lighter is too heavy. George Blaisdell returned the lighter along with his personal check of $3.50 with a note: "Please accept these with my compliments. Suggest you give it to one of your stronger friends." But Zippo listens to its customers. Zippo has over the years worked towards making the lighter weigh lighter. You would want to have a lightweight lighter. With armor Zippos, it just defeats the purpose. It only makes the lighter weigh heavier.

Does one tray just sit on top of the lighters without any protection to keep them from being scratched up?

The Lighters are sat into the foam on the bottom, so the tray sits on the foam. There's a few mil in it, but it's enough to keep the Lighters safe 👌

if you were to purchase a new zippo (retail) how nit picky would you be about little bumps or defects in the paint/sticker/art?

Completely depends on the zippo in question, why do you ask?

@@ShadowFoam because I just bought several and a few have minor defects. A couple have what looks like little bump on the artwork, another one has what look like very small pits in the artwork.

line the bottom of the tray with felt ya dope , or cut your foam for the bottom insert a wee bit deeper so the faces of the zippo's are not rubbing the wood bottom every time the box gets opened or moved . You have them flush , but you will see they will rub or you could mod some of that pile of hardware to make tray stops to prevent the tray from being forced down in a bit of haste closing the box ya. Right , get that bit sorted and ya got yourself 1 off safe place to store a 100 piece zippo lot.

Yes I agree the dollar value of the collection has dropped considerably for having opened the bubble packs, but as long as the boxes are kept and the lighters pristine it can help mitigate this drop by a little. Also keeping the supporting documentation, magaziness and the packaging might help a bit. I would also argue that for some people having them all together in this fashion is much more satisfying and enjoyable, plus way easier to store and share with friends, but that is a different topic altogether.

The one drawback to collecting Zippos is that I think no one will probably ever have every single one that has ever been made as their are thousands of different ones and and some of the older models like the 1941 models and 1953 models you can mostly get as modern reproductions and only sort of half count to a real collector

@@ShadowFoam jack daniels zippos are cool, regular high polish armor zippo is a classic, st. benedict armor zippo, freedom skull, celtic tree of life etc These are more fancier zippos but they are very nice although it does depend what your into

You should have left them in the box. You just destroyed the resale value of that collection. However, as a person who collects Zippos for fun and really does not care about the value of them, I really like that display case.
