Just ordered my Marlin 7 in the Marigold/Radioactive Red colour combo. Super excited, so glad to see good positive comments about the bike here makes me even more excited
@nickbishop5790 I just got the new marlin 5 and loved it. Was gonna go with this one but like the updated tires, saddle, and the new cues shifts very smooth.
I bought a Marlin 7 about a month ago, I like it I haven't rode in years and want to start riding again, so far really like the bike, actually got my daughter a Marlin 5 also and so far we like them and are having fun. Great run down of the bike, I didn't realize the bar clamps had some other mounting options in there. Great vid👍
i got this bike a month or so ago to get into some trail riding and it's awesome, so far i've upgraded the foot pedals and the tires. i've probably put around 50+ miles just riding intermediate trails.
Just ordered this same bike but in the Matte Nautical Navy Blue/Gray. Get it on Tuesday. Will probably upgrade the pedals immediately as well. I'll stick with the tires for now but I'm going to have the shop convert them to tubeless. Might also put a dropper post in but after I take her on the trails several times.
@@kiwi22207I just got this bike in size L about 2 weeks ago. Riding a 1x 29er is new to me. I have only 2 rides on it so far (30miles). So far so good. I will say that mine came with Tektro levers and brakes, also slightly different grips. Still trying to get comfortable on this bike. Mine is pretty heavy at 31lbs. Not planning on replacing anything until I wear out the tires, then I will go tubeless . So far not a fan of 1x . Coming from a 3x9 I mostly used a 44(perfect) and then 46(bit too much)front for almost everything My edit: I frequently ride trails that are very compact and slow/tedious/not difficult no jumps etc but also have long smooth slightly curvey sections that screams speed
@lebowskiunderachiever3591 i eneded up with the new marlin 5. I like the cues better than the the doere on the marlin 8 as it shifts much smoother. Even though it's 1x the bike feels faster than the marlin 8.
That was surprisingly light. I suppose keep an eye on that scale and see if other bikes where you are provided a weight spec come in lighter than expected. Might need to compare it againat another scale. I find it intereating that Trek spec'd Maxxis tires. Usually they would use their house brand. I wouldn't be surprised that the supply chain is so messed up they don't have sufficient stock.
I bought mine pre pandemic. I love it. I got rid of the plastic pedals with metal , the cheap seat it comes with ,to a split seat, better grips. And added a Bontrager rack/ bag system. Living in east, central Illinois. In cooler weather you might start out in a sweatshirt, then you get warm,so I have a bag to throw it in. 😊
What's the run time on the order for one of these ? I ordered a Fuel Ex 5 last August....still not here....and saying that it's coming in April of 2022....So basically paying extra and waiting for an old bike. Thanks Trek
@@eddienorton4577 It's insane. Local Bike shop has me by the balls tho...If I cancel....I'm even further behind....I'm most pissed about Trek selling me the 2021 bike for an increased price....just calling it a 2022...I'm hoping they upgrade some components and offer different color ways
I recently bought a vitus mythique VRX and I'm glad they just a first come first serve policy rather than a preorder system as although it's a pain in the arse to get you don't have to wait forever
Just ordered one at £569 on the Trek Fest. Great price really. Been riding road for 10 yr and want to mix it up more. Takes panniers so it'll make a nice bike for light weekender tours. Not impressed with the 67 inch top gear though - the 1x is coming straight off and getting replaced with 26/36 Deore when I pick the bike up.
Great vid. I just bought the Gen 2 2023 model of the exact bike in small. So far I’m loving it I put close to 100 in the month I’ve had it. First mods are to add a dropper post and handle bar and stem to raise it a bit
I put hope fortus 26 (pro 5 hubs) wheels on mine with some deity pedals. Rips around like a beast. Just a shame they used the fsa crank and crappy bottom bracket. Gonna do them next. Needs the shimano deore crankset that matches the transmission
I was looking into the Vitus Nucleus vrs medium frame 27 wheel. The only difference I spotted out when watching this video that the Marlin 7 has 100mm front air suspension and the Nucleus vrs has 120mm air fork suspension. Whats your opinion on both of these bikes
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thx man. I test rode the 6 as well. And when it was all said for a couple hundred more the 7 was worth it. Not to mention that red and yellow. Such a cool looking combo there.
26.24 pounds? I'd bank on it that the scale wasn't playing nice like you said. The specs on the bike have 30ish pounds written all over it. I'm guessing you probably take the opportunity to lift a lot of the bikes you review on here in addition to weighing them with the scale. I know I would. First thing I do when I see a bike in a bike shop is lift it lol. From what you remember from the Blur, any chance a bike like the Marlin 7 can actually be lighter, even with the rear shock on the Blur? Or how about the carbon Chameleon? I realize tire/wheel setup will add weight to the bike but that should I'm guessing be more than offset by the carbon frame and lighter components across the board. If by chance though this bike really does weigh 26.24 pounds, then Trek has just cracked the code and found the holy grail of price/performance/weight combination that just hasn't existed in this price range before.
Yeah.. I'm pretty certain the scale was optimistic. Normally I don't re-weigh when what comes on the screen passes a reality check. The Trek quoted weight of about 30lbs is more than likely accurate
@@Jamesthebikeguy I have a Marlin though Large, Have Suntour Axum fork the was 2lbs lighter than stock. Lighter crank and and Racing Ralphs front/rear and Tubless and its 28lbs using a Park bike scale. Unless there is some new magic happening here, time to get a new scale :)
Just Got one. Walked into a shop about 50 miles away from home and they had some 2022 5s and 6. Got the XL6 in Black with yellow. Great climbing. I know there are naysayers but I dont care. It was a great ride.
I like the direction they are going with this line, each new year the marlins look more and more capable/durable, especially the 1x except i guess on the lower-end 4. In experience coming from the 2020 model was just awful in components that broke down at anything above basic trail/commuting
you have to get an externally routed dropper as the frame does not have a hole at the bottom. The cool thing is that the external post only has to be external on the set tube section, then you can internally rout from the bottom of the frame up to the cockpit. It is dumb that trek didn't just put that hole in the frame when there are 2 holes at the front of the frame for internally routing cables. I have the 2021 marlin 7 and added a dropper. The frame hasn't changed, just the wheels and tires.
I don’t understand how companies are still selling disc brake bikes with QR skewers in 2021! Especially MTBs! I love the look of the Marlin but thru axles should be on this bike!
@@Jamesthebikeguy for one they won’t get any disc rub, two the bike would be capable of much heavier trail use, and three it would have up to date technology which road, cx and gravel have already adopted for the last few years. Even the $2000 xcaliber 9 only has boost 141 QR! Trek are way behind the times. I wouldn’t even consider a bike like that without thru axles.
Can’t wait to get my hands on mine!! 🤣But gotta keep waiting due to the supply issues even right now ,..today! f-_-!) 2021 November…and may not see mine until August,..2022‼️👎🏾😫Sucks!!😖🥺So ,..may have to get a GT Aggressor Sport or Comp until then‼️🤨👌🏾(and sell it of course when the XXL Marlin 7 Fire Orange shows up❗️😒😑)
Hi there, Greeting from Myanmar! I have a few question that aI have seen a lot of Marlin 7 2022 series come with Shimano all set. I found it on many website that describing with Shimano. not Tektro! I have no ideas why are they come like this? Is it the country of distribution is different? Does anyone can help me to get these answer please? Thanks so much.
ive just bought a brand new 2021 marlin 5 the front suspention has a wobble on it ive tried taking it 2 bits from the bottom but no look i hope its not nackerd i do 6 mile plus per day
Hey please can i get some assistance, what back wheel would i need for my merlin trek 7 gen 2 bike in large, im new to mountain bikes and ive got no clue, my back wheel got bent and it was unfixable.
I have a dual sport 4 and the wheels seem to large for the frame. There is very little clearance between the wheel and pedals when turning at low speed and I often find myself catching my feet on the wheel. Not ideal and am wondering weather 650b wheels would be the better option
I just got my 2022 Marlin 7, xl frame, almost two weeks ago. Love it. I've put about 130 miles on it already, about ten of that off road. No complaints at all.
@J S For me personally it has high enough gears, I'm sure for younger guys who like to ride fast all the time it might not be fast enough. My 25 year old Klein has higher gears but I seldom used them.
Their website says only size S available but I've seen people in other branch (400km away) had bought a size L. So anyway i ordered the size S then msg them to change it to L. They replied "will look in other branch and will update you soon" 😂 I hope this works.
Another great review by you and your team! Beautiful bike! Seems like a great do-it-all bike. Where do I find a bike stand like yours? Those I have seen jn that style specify not to be used with disc brakes. Thanks again!
I went to order a Marlin 7 the other day. I was told April of 2022, some quick math and 8 months!!! Time to look for something else. I was thinking about a Polygon Xtrada 6 or 7.
I got my Trek Marlin 7 2021 version, (Red) I’ve spent almost 2k in upgrades on bigger forks and tyres, new seat and new grips and shorter stem, I love it, awsome trail bike,
£800 i paid and i was told that was just for the frame & everything would need to be upgraded! Had nothing but problems with it & got my money back after 2 week. Loved the marigold frame. Thats it.
Hello there sir.. May i ask if what is the difference between the marlin 7 r.a marigold 2021 vs.marlin 7 r.a marigold 2022?.. Tnx in advance for the answer sir.from🇵🇭
is this strictly for off-road trails or can I use it for daily commuting purpose as well?? I'm thinking about getting this one, but I don't have any knowledge about MTBs I just love their looks and what people can do with them. I'm a student currently and do uber delivery work, so is it good for that purpose or should I just go for 5 or 6 which are a more chilled out bikes that are said good for commuting and Ok-ish off-road trial.
Just picked up 2 Marlin 6’s for my wife and I to do some easy trail riding. Nice, inexpensive ride. Would have gotten a 7 or 8, but they are hard to find.
I put Specialized Armadillo 700 x 38 on my Marlin 7…. Thing is a great paved bike trail bike… not sure how it would do riding hard core cross country on it.
@J S I wish it had a larger gear for sure… I changed the rear cassette and got rid of the very wide range that came with the original cassette. I upgraded it to an SLX cassette. Next step will be to get a larger ring up front.
Good call, I picked up a size Medium yesterday and I am loving it so far. Took a short 10mi ride and it was great. The M7 is definitely a step up from my 2017 M5.
