Your videos are so well created, Grady! Anyone watching can truly tell just how much thought, time, and research goes into each one. Thank you and keep it up :)
Spent three years on the road as a load in / load out guy for Alan & his band and let me tell you, you couldn't meet a nicer person, no matter how small your role is he treats you like family. A man of honor & integrity, public or private.
Daddy let me drive is the most relatable song I have ever heard in my life. From my dads international scout, to his ford 8N tractor, to the old boat we had as a kid, to someday doing it all over again with my kids.
I remember sitting on my Dads 8n ford and hardly being able to turn the big the steering wheel. And driving our old stick shift ford around the hay field picking up bales.
Alan is the absolute best country music singer. He has the twang in his amazing voice and sings like he believes what he's saying. It really touches my heart. Love this humble man. He makes a person believe that he's on the same level as we are. God bless him.
One of the coolest CDs I have is "Under the Influence" from 1999, where Jackson does brilliant covers of Charley Pride's "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'", Don Williams "It Must Be Love", and other beautiful country standards.
hello yes as someone who loved Alan Jackson but had never heard Where were you when the world stopped turning um the first time I heard it was as a teenager during someone's project and I CRIED SO HARD...it's so gut wrenching and showcases the different ways people grieved
I would agree with this point, but in the last 10 years George Strait has written or co-written many of his singles and album cuts and they are great songs. So, I've still gotta say George Strait is the King.
@@MrDudeman78 it’s probably mostly rooted in my biased more against George. Between him and Alan I always will pick Alan. I just like his songs more🤷🏼♂️. But that is opinions for you.
I'm a 23 year old Greek girl that fell in love with country music because of Alan Jackson. And he's Back (he's bringing country back. Back where it belongs, back on track) .
Word has it he beats his wife tho. Wether or not it's true, it kinda makes sense tho. The seemingly perfect character hiding the deep dark secret. I find it appalling if he would do that..
If You've never seen Alan Jackson live, please just do it. his voice has aged so well and he's so genuine singing his songs and telling his stories, it is such an amazing experience
I went to one recently and that was easily the best concert I've gone to. I've seen some legendary people/bands/groups, but he was the best experience. The crowd was having so much fun with every song and he nailed each one so perfectly, you might think it wasn't live. I hope he comes back to my area before he retires because I want to see him again.
Legend has it that he arrived in Nashville with a brown paper bag filled with cassette tapes of songs he'd written ... so many that it helped him yield hits four albums into his career.
I am a lantio from a lantio hood and I asked the dj at my HS graduation to play some of his hits and even though some in the party didn't understand it they enjoyed it
Weirdly I’ve seen whole groups of people singing along to josh turner just because it came on Everyone was singing along Although I can see basically everyone enjoying Alan Jackson
Alan Jackson was/is the perfect country star/musician. Music always had traditional country elements, he wrote most of his hits, good morals, polite, respectful, never divorced. I'm sure he wasn't perfect - but, I've never heard anything bad about him. He's one of my all time favorites.
Alan Jackson, was and has always been consistent in his version and quality of country music. Literally feels like a normal guy, living a normal life, and then writing songs about it.
Been an Alan Jackson fan since I first heard "Drive" on the radio as a kid. Still one of my favorite artists in the country music world and rivals George Strait for top-tier talent in the industry.
when I discovered country music, Alan Jackson was the first one I started listening to and a little later I discovered Bluegrass. my dream is to visit Nashville the heart of country music.
Chattahoochee... A perfect song accompanied by a legendary video... "A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute" just makes me smile and feel good about life lived
my dad worked as a tech on his helicopter once and said he was one of the nicest customers he’d ever met on the job. he was a huge fan of Jackson from the start of his career and was so happy that he had a positive experience meeting him.
To me, Alan Jackson is the best of what country music can be. He has songs that'll make you laugh, songs that will break your heart. He has the honky tonk and the ballads. His lyrics are so expressive. I still get a chill when I hear Midnight in Montgomery. Everyone loves Chattahoochie. I think some of my other favorites are Monday Morning Church (the imagery!), So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore, Remember When, Where I Come From,...the list goes on and on. He's also the kind of artist whose songs grow MORE relatable the older you get and the more life you live.
Me in 2006: “Hey how’d it go with Stacy last night” Clint: “I settled for a burger and a grape snow cone” The name have been changed to protect the innocent.

In 1989 I bought Music Row Printing and Alan Jackson was the first account I picked up on my own. I produced most of Alans Printing for the next 27 years. It was because of Alan's business that I had the funds to send my kids to private school. He impacted my life in a positive way. Thank you Alan
i loved that one awards show when they told George Jones to cut his song short, so when Alan played his he stopped halfway through and started singing George's song choices
Both George Strait and Alan Jackson can be great! Alan Jackson’s music reminds me a lot of Brad Paisley’s. The range of having funny songs, anthems, songs that will warm your heart, and songs that will break your heart is just so rare.
ALLAN JACKSON IS MY MOST FAVOURITE GOSPEL AND COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER OF ALL TIME. George Strait is my second most favourite country singer and my most favourite COUNTRY SINGER and GOSPEL singer of back in the 1953 era was HANK WILLIAMS SR. George Jones is in there too. ALLAN JACKSON WAS BORN TO SING GOSPEL SONGS, GOD bless 🥰💙🙏OXOXOX OXOXOX OXOX OXOX
We really share same idea, he has been my favorite country artist from collage days... can we have a better conversation about same interest ? You can write me up on my personal mail address (hangout) : Tommy0harrison (@) gmail . com You can also call me Tom 😀🙂
Hi Alan Jackson hope you're doing good thiis mornig and happy my heart gose out too you awesome DAY HAPPY 25TH ANNIVERSARY STAY Safe blessing and keep That bright mine and thinking a tune for your country music love that country songs . congratulations
Alan Jackson was my first concert in 2002 (I was 12 or 13). I was mainly there for his opener, Martina McBride, but he blew me away. I was a fan before but I became a huge fan afterwards. Also, the concert was in New Jersey (20min drive from Manhattan) and when he sang "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning", it was so cathartic. A memory I'll never forget.
Will never forget The Choices CMA moment 👏🏻 as well as walking into a country music convention in NJ when country wasn’t considered “cool”…hearing Gone Country, and feeling it was actually cool to like country. I have never shied away from my pride of being a country fan ever again
I lost my uncle on 9/11. Alan's song "Where Were You" was the first country song I listened too. It helped with the healing process, as a lot of what was in the song is what I was feeling. Been a country fan ever since. Thanks for doing this video.
Jackson was in that class of new country that included Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Mark Chestnut, Randy Travis, and George Strait (along with many others). Lots and lots of performers that defined an era that brushed away the world of Urban Cowboyization of country music. It felt fresh and real and that I think is what makes performers like Jackson stand out.
My first exposure to Alan Jackson was through a 9/11 tribute that had Where were you when the world stopped turning? playing in the background. I loved the voice and looked up more of his songs, and he quickly became one of my favorite country artists. I'd say my favorite song of his is Remember When, but it's a tough call; he has SO many good ones to pick from
Honestly “The Bluegrass Album” is one of my favorite albums of his. That album is what really got me into the Bluegrass genre. “Blue Ridge Mountain Song” is just so powerful and his voice really conveys the emotions of the song. Same with songs like “Blue Side of Heaven” and “Way Beyond the Blue”. And the other songs on the album are just so fun and pretty uncharacteristic of his regular stuff. I know it’s most if not all covers but I really love that album.
As someone who's not always the biggest Alan Jackson fan, I have to agree. I loved that album and it inspired to dip my toe into that scene more than I had to that point.
Love Alan. Even being as respected as he is I still think he's underrated in a way. He's done more for the genre over the course of his career than almost anyone else. Would love to see a similar video on Clint Black, another favorite that never really gets credit for how good he was/is.
OM Gosh... I've followed this thrill of a man since the 80's . Here in Ca, but am from Arkansas, Glen Glembell home boy country! Back when we had phone recorders. Alan's voice was in the background when you called my house. This man will never be replaced. He's the good guy , and a song writer... Just the most talented, humble beloved man. Live forever Alan... or as long as I live. Then we can listen to you at the foot of Jesus with that baratone voice of his. We love ya, my man... No one to compare!
Thanks Grady for highlighting Alan Jackson! As a kid who grew up on 90s country, AJ and Brooks & Dunn were my country music kings and I hope others appreciate him too! I literally went to the chattahoochee to sing Chattahoochee at one point in life, so the love is real.
I grew up right across the chattahooche from Alan, so when he talks about local stuff, like the way into the newnan dump in 'daddy let me drive' is stuff I could really connect to.
I've loved Alan Jackson since I was a kid, he was one of my Grandma's favorite artists. Listening to him brings back memories of car rides with her listening to her Alan Jackson CDs and singing along. I'm still singing along to those CDs in my car to this day :)

I grew up with Alan Jackson's music as a kid. My mom used to play country music radio all day. I had heard a lot of his songs while we used to play war or double solitaire with a deck of cards. Those were some of my favorite memories of her. So almost every song of his since the 80s and 90s has become my favorites. I still cry every time I hear 'where were you' on the radio or play it on my Spotify playlist.
Grew up on Jackson, Strait, Brooks, etc with the radio playing as I went to bed in the 80s and early 90s. I fell off hard in the early 00s and came back to country in my mid/late 20s. He'll always be one of my favorite singer/songwriters. The 90s was one of the best times to be a country music fan and be a child and teen in.
I've always loved Alan Jackson's ability to both tell a story and give me shivers with his soft voice, but whenever I think of him I'm always reminded of Reba introducing him for something calling him, "Our answer to Bob Dylan". To me, that's who he'll always be. An amazing poet and story teller.

My grandma had a major crush on Alan. He was "her boy"and would always sing along when he was on. Absolute legend and always brings a smile when I hear him on the radio.
The three artists that really made me fall in love with country music as a kid were Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and Alan Jackson. Nice work on this one Grady!
I remember when my daughter who is now 30 would sit in front of the TV watching country music videos. Once Alan Jackson was on she turned around and said "it looks like he's looking right at me". That's the charm of Alan. You feel like you know him or you should. He seems like someone we would hang out with.
Just the other day I was driving and Here in the Real World came on the radio. I remembered that it was Alan’s first big song (because I’m middle aged) and then I just marveled at what a great song it is, and how it stands the test of time. This video is on point. I’ll never forget watching the CMAs in 2001 and weeping the first time I heard Where Were You, and it too stands the test of time. I’m sure Alan would be cool with being co-King with George Strait. ♥️

To me, He is my number one. Alan made me fall in love country music. I love that he is a complete artist. that is, he has over 30 number ones, and majority are penned by him. Also, the guy is humble, respectable, and stands for his friends and beliefs..
I am so sentimental for Alan Jackson. My absolute favorite song when I was a little kid was “Livin’ On Love”. I remember singing it all the time. I’ve always thought he’s underappreciated, so I had to watch this vid immediately!

This video is going to sort of be a litmus test about how much interest there really is in stuff like this. You wouldn't really expect this to be the case, but typically when legends are covered here, the traffic does not often justify the amount of work it takes to research people with such extensive careers!
@@GradySmith well, I'm glad that you are willing to do it. I've followed your channel for a few years now and have started listening to a lot of the people you cover. I also enjoy hearing about the classics every now and again to reflect on the journey of country music.
My husband and I have been married for 37yrs, with 4 kids, we grew up listening to alan, and our family song is Small Town Southern Man everything in pertains to our family except he had 5 kids in their family. We all absolutely love that song. Alan is a fantastic song writer and musician.
I just moved to Newnan a few months ago and there’s a giant mural of his A Lot About Livin’ and A Little ‘Bout Love album cover painted on a building downtown. They’re definitely proud of their favorite son as they should be.
Great video, Grady! One of my personal Alan Jackson favourites is Precious Memories where he covers a bunch of traditional worship songs. Beautiful arrangements and his voice suits the songs perfectly
My youngest daughter is really petite and her “Theme” song is Little Bitty. She already recognizes the song at 11 mo and will start moving her body when we put it on. We sing to her on a daily basis, “It’s alright to be little bitty A little hometown or a big old city Might as well share, might as well smile Life goes on for a little bitty while”
My grandpa was one of the biggest Alan Jackson fans I've ever seen, owned all his albums, would sing his songs while working, the whole 9. I can't help think of the old man whenever Jackson's music comes on and it fills me with joy.
One of my favorite stories is how he got the lyrics for "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning" and decided to perform it. He is an absolute legend and one of my favorite singers ever. Thank you for a fantastic deep dive into his career!
I have loved Alan since I can remember. I just love everything about him and what he stands for. I love all his songs, but if I had to pick a favorite probably "here in the real world" ❤
You are great Cowboy. You made your way I'm proud of you. Great personality and sense of humor. Mama and Daddy are proud of you. Keep on signing Cowboy. GOD BLESS ALWAYS
Alan Jackson has always been my all time favorite. He didn't need gimmicks or running around the stage, his songs were enough. I always said he is "Smooth" standing there swinging his boot. Good ol country music, I miss him on the award shows. 🤩🤩🤩
5 O'clock Somewhere is one of the first songs I can remember hearing when I was a kid, Alan has always had this ability to perfectly mix silliness and fun with the sentimental and tragic. I can't speak highly enough about this guys music because it actually meant something emotionally, which I can't say for a lot of Nashville now
On a real note, my dad had an old 84 square body chevrolet when I was a kid. I loved that truck, and I couldnt even fully appreciate it for what it was at the time. Old leather bench seat, gun rack in the window, and a radio you had to actually tune to your station. A true relic and I wish it was still around, but that's not the point I'm making. When I remember riding around in that truck as a little 6 year old kid, Alan Jackson is always playing in the background. I got to live through his rise to being a country legacy and I did it the best way possible I think.
I really appreciate this. Alan Jackson is my favorite country singer of all time. He's so simple but elegant in his songwriting and he's such a down-to-earth dude.
I went to see Alan Jackson in Charlotte in 2019 and I can say that it was the coolest experience of my life. He told stories about his life and his songs throughout the whole concert. The atmosphere in that building when he played "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning" was absolutely incredible. It was probably the most powerful and emotional thing I have ever been apart of in my life. It gave me chills and I can honestly say it is something I will carry with me forever.
Im not a huge country fan, but Alan Jackson is someone I can listen to any of his albums straight through. Remember When was one of the songs in out senior slidshow when we graduated. We all listened to that album bumping it with our systems in a small town high school.
I’m 25 years old now and Alan Jackson is the quintessential singer of my childhood music experience. He is probably the biggest reason that I love that real country sound today and am so picky about my country music now. I saw him play with George Strait at Cowboy Stadium in 2014 and it was incredible! This video was so nostalgic for me. Makes me think of driving to and from school and the grocery store and around town with my mom. Thank you for doing this!
