I love that this interview exists and that Chris is getting recognition. I grew up a huge fan of Eric Avery and he had a big impact on my own playing so when Chaney joined Jane’s I was apprehensive but so pleasantly surprised. He ticked the Eric A vibe box but still put his own slant on Jane’s that was a bit grittier and one I really enjoy. When I saw him play in the early otts with Panic Chanel at The Fine Line I was sold (rocking those Aguilar heads and cabinets). Such a talent but great to see he’s humble, too.

Such an amazing interview with Chris Chaney. Thank you for highlighting and introducing us to him. I am a fan and so impressed by his humility, his generosity of time and energy. His style is amazing but even more is his character. He is an unsung legend of the bass community.

YES! My 16 year old self is leaping with joy! Chris’ name was on every album I owned back in the day. ‘Strays’ was one of those albums that kicked my backside into learning to play with a pick every time I picked my bass up. Thank you guys so much for sharing this 😊🙏

I play with the "invisible pick" as well. If you're not familiar than hold a pick like normal then pull it out with your other hand keeping your fingers if holding the pick. Then play with the side of your thump, not your nail, as if holding a pick.

Chris had some shoes to fill in with AC/DC, but he sounds great! Cliff Williams would be really proud. Chris knows all the bass fills and he has the same staccato sound that Cliff brought in the rhythm section. Chris knows what he's doing when he has a bass in his hands. Best wishes, Chris, and congrats!

This is a great Interview, one thing he mentioned was very cool to hear. He was talking about Taylor Hawkins playing with a few people I used to see at the Studio Cafe', Balboa. This was in around 86 or so. He mentioned a guitar player named Gannon Arnold, he was a young good player at the time. The guys he played with were good, loved the Bass player, Melvin Davis. They were always on Thursday. Tuesday, John Pattitucci was there, I was lucky to have such good talent to see without a hassle. Loved seeing Melvin in "Coming to America", Sexual Chocolate.

I got lost with the ‘53 P bass story.. Eddie Vedder got him the gig bag, where did the bass come from, Dave Boonshoft? Eddie Vedder is the most awesome guy. He was in the studio working his own project while a project I was working on was being mastered and he had a lot of good things to say. He ended up getting the first copy of that record we made.

On most tab or notation for "Run for Cover" it's wrongly written as a triplet figure. As Chris rightly said it's 32nd notes.
