A much needed update from the original release, I'm glad that missing episode animations aren't being stopped just yet.

I've only bought DVD versions of the animations, partly because of the reversible covers that match the other DVDs but also I'm not convinced there's any real benefit to having a HD Blu-ray version of this style of animation.

If they do animate the Smugglers and the Highlanders, then we could see a potential season 4 collection set not too long after.

I’m not one to re-buy shows and movies that I already own. But I will buy this story again, since it’s been fully animated.

I have a soft spot for this story. It's Doctor Who's version of Plan 9 from Outer Space! I only wish the animators had gotten Jamie and Zaroff's costumes right.

The animation looks interesting. It seems to be a mix of both animation teams (BBC Studios who did Shada, Faceless Ones, Evil of the Daleks and Big Finish who did Fury from the Deep, Galaxy 4, Abominable Snowmen). Seems to be a joint effort between both. I imagine character animation & character design was done by one team (BBC Studios) and backgrounds & layouts were done by the other (Big Finish). From the teaser, the characters look like they’re in the same art style as seen in Evil of the Daleks (the 2nd Doctor & Jamie models are the same from Evil, with Jamie being in the wrong costume), but the backgrounds & layouts of characters is more similar to the Big Finish animations (which I personally don’t like). Some people say that because it was said in The Mirror back in January that both Underwater Menace & The Smugglers were getting animated (as well as colourised 60s Doctor Who episodes), a Smugglers animation is basically confirmed, but I still wouldn’t say Smugglers or full colourised 60s episodes is 100% confirmed because of this. I remember back in 2018 when The Mirror said Macra Terror was being aniamted, they also said Wheel in Space. And while it technically wasn’t wrong as a part of Ep. 1 was animated, we still don’t have a full one. Some info mixes up & we don’t get exactly what was said. . Underwater Menace animated = ✅ . Smugglers aniamted =❔ . Colourised 60s Doctor Who =❔ What we might get instead of Smugglers being animated & fully colourised 60s Who is instead just the surviving clips of The Smugglers l being colourised (which just happened) & just Underwater Menace animated But, I am hoping to be wrong there 🤞 What I will say tho is in that original January Mirror article, it did say that the funding for these new animations was not from Disney, so we can scratch that potential off for now…

So disappointed when it got shelved for the 50th anniversary, absolutely delightful news.

I'm glad they're still doing them in both b/w and colour. I initially watch them in colour and then see how the b/w fares. Some of them like The Macra Terror just work so well in colour, whereas others really do fare much better in the b/w if only for the added creepy atmosphere, I'm thinking Fury from the Deep and The Faceless Ones in particular. One thing i will say is that from what i understand the choice of which story they're animating next is chiefly to do with how easy they are to animate, the teams not being Disney-level or anything. So i doubt we will see Marco Polo or DMP until probably the very end of the range if at all. The Smugglers would be cool but as they've mainly been concentrating on the Troughton stories i think it would be sensible for them to get the Space Pirates or The Wheel in Space done soon just so they can release a Troughton Blu-Ray season next year or the year after.

I think they need to make the original episodes option on disc one atleast for the B&W one. The disc swapping will be offputtinf

it is fantastic that they are doing this. but i really dislike this style of animation (cut out). there's no depth, joints are pivot and they look like they are bobbing up and down like a fishing bobble. I would have liked to see a style of animation like Rick and Morty or what's new Scooby doo, and with the Disney access/ money i would have expected better animation..... To that being said no disrespect to the animators who worked on this you are good at your job and we thank you for your hard work.

Would love to get the steelbook but it won't match my collection, I've missed all the previous ones. Will have to be standard bluray for me.

Fantastic, this makes up for the original dvd release I love the second doctor stories so very excited.dvd or blu ray depending on price

For me this is one release I can wait for til a season 4 blu ray collection, I'm happy enough with the existing dvd (and the 2 loose cannon recons of the missing episodes that are uploaded elsewhere 😁)

It's a great news, I must say! (Love the look of the animation so far quite a lot, reminds me quite of the Macra Terror/Evil of the Daleks Animation) In Terms of the Smugglers. I am just going to guess we will see that animation, probably early next year. Perhaps due to the possibility of the discovery of 2 episodes of this serial, I am guessing some things probably could have delayed itself? I am not sure, but I feel like hearing three times of this story (be it the Colorization of those Censor Clips, a possible Animation of it and also rumors that Episode 2 and 4 could exist, makes me think that something is probably true on that Rumor from January. Plus it's Season 4, and most Animations that we have gotten were very Season 4/5 focussed!

Kinda weird that they’re animating all the episodes and not just the ones that are missing. At least to me. But who knows, we’ll probably have the option to watch the recovered episodes anyway.
