I'm sorry for any misunderstandings caused to everyone! Firstly, due to the time zone, this song was released a few hours earlier in our country. Secondly, I was already drawing part of this song when only a few clips were publicly released, but later I organized them. Thank you very much for your liking. I created it with great excitement, but of course there are many flaws. Please forgive me!🥺🥺💗💗💗💗
Polites gets me every time. What hurts so much is that according to Jorge, the lyrics are what the spirits were thinking right before they died. So Polites STILL believed in kindness as he died. That makes Monster- where Odysseus turns his back on kindness- hurt SO MUCH MORE. Now not only is Polites dead, but the part of him Odysseus was carrying is dead too.
@@MelodicBerry I KNOW RIGHT?! I had finally gotten to the point where I could *almost* get through the song without crying. Then I watching this animation again and started crying my eyes out again.
God dang it. 558 men died under your command hit hard, hearing Polytes messed me up more, and then hearing Odysseus' mother died waiting broke my heart
It's not hearing Odys mother that makes me sob. It's him realising that she will not be there in Ithaka to welcome him and died waiting for his return ("I took too long")
3:19 is such a sad part because in the Odyssey it’s said that Odysseus tries to reach out and hug his mother three times but every time he fails because she no longer has a body
Oh NO, that's actually heartbreaking. When I was imagining the animations in my mind while listening to the underworld I imagined (taking from one of the animators) that polites threw him an apple that he tried to catch (symbolizing asking him to be kind) but it fazed through his hand. The fact that he tried to hug her THREE TIMES is just… 😭
@@GleamDrawz what’s extra sad is that Odysseus didn’t know that his mother died while he was away fighting the war, he thought that she was till alive and only found out when he saw her in the underworld
its amazing how after thousands of years, this is a feeling not only we can perfectly understand, but hasn't changed at all. The loss of your mom, and the pain of a mom waiting for her son to come home from war
"Odysseus, when you come home, I'll be waiting" The way she says Odysseus Also, the fact that Jorge’s mom voiced Odysseus’s mom is so wholesome. Wanda Herrans(Jorge’s mom) has a beautiful voice and I we all love her
I think in the overall scheme of things he succeeds in a way. Odysseus will have his crew turn on him in Act 2 after he refused to protect them from Scylla and realize being a callous asshole all the time doesn't make you right either. He will learn from Polites that you should always welcome the world with kindness but learn from Poseidon do not hesitate to do what needs to be done if you're given no choice. There is a middle ground that he struggles to find.
Imagine how heartbreaking it would be to find out that your mom died THROUGH THE UNDERWORLD! This poor man set out for war not knowing his mom died of heart ache .
Bro, as a person that’s lost one of his best friends to suicide and a mother to a brain and aneurysm in one year this is really close to home and honestly is an artistic masterpiece
Is that best friend Polities? I’m trying to make sure, but he didn’t commit suicide. If it’s someone else I’m wrong (If it’s Polities he died in the song Survive, he got crushed by Polyphemus. He was the crew mate that said captain… with the cracky voice.)
Great and emotional song now I am crying and the fact that Jorge’s mother sang as Odyssey’s mother hit me harder. And of course there is Polites who absolutely broke me. 👻 😇👩🌊
2:02 Oh my olympus... that scene... when Odysseus sounds so happy when he said the first Polites ... Ahhhh I'm sobbing... and then Polites cradled his head and then when he said Polites again he sounded so freaking heartbroken... But Polites voice! He sounds so peaceful or smth!!
I personally feel like Polites came in right then to comfort Odysseus, and to let him know that he forgives him,, the first time I heard the Open Arms reprise in there (last night lol) I couldn't stop myself from crying 😭
I admire your dedication to put this together so soon after the song was released. You kept Hypnos at bay with a ton of coffee and energy drinks, didn't you? 😅
Haha, I'm sorry I don't have the habit of drinking coffee and sports drinks. If there's anything that drives me to complete this work so quickly, it's my love for drawing and this musical.☺️☺️💗💗💗
Holy shit, you're so fast!! I love how you animated the dead soldiers coming out of the water and forming into Poseidon, genius! The bit with Odysseus and his mom was so beautiful. Also great ending with Tiresias watching them. I hope you do more animatics from this saga!
So about Polytes... As has been mentioned, the spirits are singing their last thoughts and memories. Recall that Polytes' last words were a struggled "Captain...". After everything that happened, his last thoughts were a hope that despite his death and the pain it causes at the hands of Polyphemus, all he wants is Oddy to keep trying to greet the world with open arms... Ima go cry some more now...
@@user-yl4qn4pl7d still!!! given that you were so quick and The Art is so beautiful dude I’m sobbing it’s so good, -and I was already originally crying over the song!! but just something about visuals just hits harder!!!💥
Hearing the soldier's hurt me, hearing polities broke my heart, hearing Odysseus's mother shattered my soul Do i listen to this song specifically over and over? Yes does it hurt? Also yes🥲👍
HOW DID YOU COOK THIS FAST?! IT'S BEEN OUT FOR LESS THAN 2HRS! (unless it released earlier for your country) still, this is amazing❤ and heart breaking💔
@@user-yl4qn4pl7d It's crazy how you got to do it so fast, tho! Wait- this song is heartbreaking? REALLY?! NAH! It's not like it created a whole river out of Winions tears... including mines... (Ody's mom's part makes the end of 'The challenge' so much sader..)
God, this is such a wonderful masterpiece. The souls look beautifully majestic and creepy. The part with Polites and Odysseus's mother has already been sad but your rendition of it drives a knife through my chest. 10/10, will definitely think about it when I lie awake at night and stare at the ceiling.
1:58 I love the detail of eurylochus (and another sailor) tring to comfort Odysseus during his flashback/vision and then at 3:54 eurylochus watching with concern, that feels like nice foreshadowing of his later doubts!
I recently lost my grandma last October… and hearing the mothers part in this song… it helps me grieve so much… i feel so much guilt for not being there in her last moments all because i needed to sleep… so thank you for portraying the way you did…. It helps alot..
Okay, I think I caught a really cool detail at 00:30 That feminine figure that appears right before the main part of the song, in the Odyssey text, when the crew is in the underworld and spooky stuff starts to happen, they suspect is Persephone's doing, as she in ancient Greece was widely feared as a very scary queen of the dead type, I wonder if this feminine figure is a reference to that If it is this is very very cool!
The infant part gets me each time! Damn I just wanna enjoy my meal but shit I gotta cry XD Also damnnnnn that's a peek animatic! Your shots are Hella thought through and creative, it's really amazing
This song hurts. Odysseus was forced to relive all the deaths from during his voyage. The finale thought of all those who died. When we hear Polites, it hits my heart heard, especially when even in his final moment, he still holds his beliefs of peace close to his heart. Then, immediately after, we found that Odysseus's mother passed while she waited for her son to return home. And after his mother vanishes the rage of "all i hear are screams!" Is the perfect show of his resolve and desire not to lose everything. It's a beautifully crafted song and an absolutely amazing emotional rollercoaster. Thank you for this animation!
I swear I’ve never seen animators work so fast and produce such high quality content as EPIC fan animators. It’s really impressive!!! ( If someone is reading this in the future for context this video was posted 20hrs ago and the song came out yesterday)
I have listened to this song so many times. How did I JUST realize that when he said "I took too long," he meant she was ALIVE when he left for war and he didn't get to say goodbye when she passed, bc he wasn't there.... I've cried three times today, I can't keep doing this 😭😭
God this is so good in so many ways! Anticlea’s part in the song has always made me cry and you’ve made it so much worse (this is a good thing. It hurts more) The visuals with the soldiers coming out of the water (especially when they FORM POSEIDON) is just so awesome and creepy!
I mean, I expected this song to be good, but not THIS GOOD. You did a great work on this animatic, especially considering how this came out the very same day as the song.
This was beautiful! I love your take on this song! I am sure this took a while, but wow the song just came out and this is already out beautifully! Jorge did us dirty by adding his mom into the song, I was completely UNPREPARED!!!
I love the boat flipping to the underworld... the only other representation of that transition to the underworld is in Pirates (of the Caribbean) but it's so fitting for Epic
