Today's episode is Mr Abdullahi Shuaibu who is a Nigerian entrepreneur who owns one of the oldest leather tannery in called Naraguta Leather works in Jos, Nigeria. A shoe manufacturing company in Aba, etc can easily get leather materials from Jos, Plateau State, etc. The same shoes can be sold and used across Nigeria. Nigerians in Oshogbo, Sokoto Enugu, Bauchi, Edo, etc can all be involved in the production line and supply chain. Isn't that good for the country and economy? Let's look inward once again in Nigeria.

That has been going on since 90's, shoe makers from South West and South East get leather from Jos. Shops making Nigerian designer bags and shoes in Temple muse, and some other big stores in Victoria Island, Surulere, and Lekki Lagos are all aware of this. I'm shocked many don't know.

Pottery is an indigenous African industry. Good that Nigeria is still keeping it very much alive. Thanks to those people still doing it and thank you for bringing this to our awareness Tayo. Tayo please as you go around interviewing people at different places, always collect and keep their contact details. Some people may see these videos now or in the future and would want to get it touch with them for business or academic research reasons. They may find it hard to reach them and may want to reach out to you again. One of the biggest problems we have in Africa today is lack of reliable database for information or records. You can correct that by keeping records for the places you are showing to us.

What's interesting is that much of the leather used in Italian and French design houses like Gucci, LV etc actually comes from Nigeria. It's processed in Italy, made into shoes, bags and other accessories and sold for the prices you see on their websites. If we had a government with sense that could organise for that leather to be processed in Nigeria by acquiring the skills to process it and add much value to the leather industry in the country

Hey Tayo! Great job! You may not know the monumental thing you have just done for my friends at Naraguta Leather Works! Truly, you are an angel from Heaven! These are my close friends! I got to know them from my university days (UJ - I stayed in Naraguta Hostel in 1993-1994...) and used to stroll in there. Later in life, I came back to Jos as a professional man, with my family, and thats when I really got close to them at Naraguta. Then, in the early 2000s, imported protected phone pouches were the rage - but I was never satisfied with the quality of the China produced purchase so I would always go to them at Naraguta with designs and dimensions for phone pouches and we'll sit down together like Brothers sometimes eat together while they would make my pouches for me. It was so good - we got very close! So I am so happy to see this thing you have done - bringing them out to the world. I immediately called Abdullahi Shuaibu to excitedly greet him, and assure him that this thing Tayo just did will change their lives! Good one Tayo! (And did I mention that I was born and bred, brewed and bottled in Jos myself?!)

"We have one of the best leather" but we don't do enough on the finishing level to command the price that its really worth as a finished product. I was amazed travelling to Cross river and seeing how much cocoa is harvested yet our post-processing for the crop isn't close to that of Ghana. We need to do more on the processing end. That's the best way we can extract value
@akpowarri3504
@akpowarri3504 3 года назад
Nigeria deliberately under invested in coco in order to let Ghana and Ivory Coast sell more of it on the world market. Nigeria used to be the worlds premier Coco and peanut producers. Agree with you but the government should definitely do more because they are elected to do so and Nigeria as a country have the necessary resources to make sure that all its citizens live a very dignified life. All Nigerians should have access to basic things like Electricity/clean water/proper sewage and drainage system/proper roads/bridges etc... healthcare, education and housing so that they can live a decent life. Afterall Nigeria is a very rich country but it is just that there is too much disparity in wealth distributions. I hope the younger generations rise up and make Nigeria into the giant it can be. As an African, i say Africa need Nigeria to reach its full potential for Africa as a whole to do so too.

Nigeria is a land of opportunity. Private individuals and the government need to work together to empower the youths and create jobs for our people. Here is an example, many primary and secondary school children across the country go to school without sandals or proper ones. An individual may want to help children in a school of his or her choice or in his or her own community and contract these shoe makers to producer sandals for them. Won't that be a good way to support them? The government can do the same. Thank you Tayo for this video. Thank you to that man and owner of the business too. Love this man...It's funny how Northerners seem very peaceful compared to what people say excuse me if I'm wrong about Jos being in the North🤔...This people seem welcoming and open minded...Jos to World mehn

You won't really call Jos the north na, this man is not a typical aboki. See how fluently he speaks, he's very learned. Hausa Fulani are the problem.

@@eyobassey5106 thanks for the clarification but then when we say Hausa Fulani are the problem? It's like what we face in Diaspora when people say Nigerians are the problem. We can't generalize people amongst those you mention there would be some good people there...We just need to identify bad people and deal with them legally.

This is wonderful. Who would have thought that this was right there in Jos. Love it. May Allah see them through. Wouldn't it be a beautiful thing to see leather goods with a "Made in Jos" stamp on the bottom of the item, in stores across Africa, Europe and America. Thanks for showcasing this Tayo. Excellent work as always from Naija's true ambassador!

I enjoyed watching this video. Especially as I was born and raised in Jos but I've never been here. There's so much potential all around Nigeria. Praying for a time when we'll fully utilize it.

The drone footage over the University of Jos hostels with the hills in the background is breathtaking. Only if Nigeria were a serious country, a town like Jos is the perfect retirement place.

It is... But the level of insecurity in that part of Nigeria is disheartening

@@KolaiahsTV The insecurity you people are complaining about is exaggerated. I have many friends and family who live, work and commute to the North and they are all safe. Nigerians are known for promoting negativity. Una not dey tire? 🙄

@@blazinghot99 What do you want to call my pastor's wife and daughter that was kidnapped in Jos this last Friday? Is that one exaggerated too... Because it doesn't happen to you or people closer to you doesn't mean it is not happening. So reason am well before arguing
