2020 still headbanging to this! These guys were my first metal show! Cool story it was my 15th birthday July of 2000 and my grandma took me and three friends to an amusement park. The hotel we stayed in The Union Underground had the room next to us, they saw me and my friends skateboarding out in the parking lot listening to Slipknot and Korn and said hey these kids know what's up. They gave us a demo tape to rock out to while we skated then asked us where we were from, we said Lincoln Nebraska, it just so happened they were playing a show there in like a day or two. Brian was so cool and put us all on the VIP list! For a bunch of fifteen-year-olds this was freaking awesome! So we went to the show and afterwards when they were done playing they recognized me and my buddies put their arms around us and Patrick said hey it's my people! I couldn't believe he remembered us. Super awesome band and I will carry that memory with me forever.
Michael, i think its that both this song and Powerman were taking the 'Marilyn Manson' sound (of the time). Manson in turn took a lot of influence from NIN.
I'm begging anyone that if they have any live footage of this band to fucking release it! Bryan has over 900 hours of UU footage but he just won't budge! Maybe if people spammed him requests he would cause I'm the only thats asked him so far on his fb page.
Still jamming to yall today july 4 2022. Fan since 2002, when my lil sis gave me ur demo disc that was handed to her at a punkshow . Loved it 20 yrs since then☆
I'm a 32-year-old Taiwanese. Back in 2000, at the summer vacation before entering high school, I was on a tour to US. The information on the internet was not that open at that era (at least in Taiwan). Bought their CD accidentally, just thought the cover looks cool, and I had no idea what it would sound like. About less than 1% of people in my school knew what nu-metal is, including me. So I brought it back, and became the kid who listened to the most evil CD, hahaha. Also it had me digging into the genre of nu-metal. Damn, some good old memories.
20 years later and this album has only left the CD player in my car when I get a new car. I spent 2 hours with a crow bar in a junk yard to get it back one time.
It's really a shame how people have treated TUU, some people tend to put them as one of the worst bands in Nu Metal, and I think that's very unfair, because they are great and "An Education in Rebellion" is a great album, with self-awareness and a satirical tone. Mocking the Rockstar life (like this song) and the romanticization of drug use in rock music in many songs on the album. It's a fun album and the band has a good sense of humor. They should be given more credit.
I remember seeing this band on Ozzfest in 2001. Bought their album immediately! Still have that SAME CD to this day. So sad they didn't make it as a band. But at least they left us a killer album.
I first heard this group when it was advertised on Music Choice and I watch them perform back in Rockford, Illinois when On The Waterfront was rocking at the time. I credit the lead singer when he spoke up and said to a fan that if she wants to show her the goods then that's on her, You don't force yourself to do something that she doesn't want to do. It goes to show you how respectful that this group is to their fans and their peers. You don't ever see that in a hard metal rock band like the Union Underground. I salute this band for their efforts.
The "nu-metal" era was fun! Songs were senselessly aggressive, energetic, & had lots of personality. This song always sounded like "When Worlds Collide" to me.
The bassist is in Disturbed, the guitarist plays for Lita Ford, and the singer and drummer are working with new members on an album and tour due sometime in the 2020s!
Funny Story...bought An Education in Rebellion CD at the same time I got PM500's When the Stars Revolt....loved Union Underground from first note and track all the way to last track last note...need more of their music...MArch 2016 will hopefully bring that wish true.
funhaus did and didn't bring i've been listening to this song forever but i haven't hears it in soooooo long i had to hear it again when i heard it on openhaus
Woooow this really sounds like Powerman 5000! I thought it was Spider one singingXD even with so much similarity, its amazing, in the end when they get faster and heavier its my fave part wow!
This wasn't very mainstream when it first came out. I remember getting this album when I was 12 from walmart and my parents took it back and complained to Walmart for selling such content. A few months after that the "hardest" albums I could find at Walmart was Andrew WK with a black bar across his nose bleed and a heavily censored Godsmack album. Oh how times have changed..
It never got a lot of radio play, probably. Back when this came out, that was pretty much the only way a song or band got popular. Well, radio and MTV. But I don't remember seeing this on MTV, either. Anyway, no matter how good a song or band is, if it isn't radio-friendly, or sometimes just if the label sucked at getting it out there, they didn't get big or really make it. This is just one of many underrated metal bands from that era.
Just discovered this a couple days ago by accident. I was researching the Beatles revolution 9 reversed. When I typed in turn me on dead man, I found this. And fell in LOVE!
Came here for a goofy dose of nostalgia, became captivated by the ad before the video showing a little kid nailing the drum parts of Slipknot's Unsainted.
2003 or 2004ish... they came to Huntington WV for this music fest that our local radio station was throwing (which I really really wish they'd put something like it together again) it was called Bearfest (103.1 the bear) I honestly think it was like Huntington's homecoming thing, but there wasn't only union underground there, There was also Aaron Lewis, and I'm pretty sure Disturbed was there too and I can't remember who else but there was a good handful of bands there including a few band stands, there was music every fkn where!!
There about to have a show in HTX! My dad used to be good friends with these guys and party with them! Hopefully my Dad and I can make it to the show!!!!
