The connection to being Winston Churchill’s birthplace, I mean specifically the historical significance of Blenheim, speaks so much to what sort of sense of purpose and ego he would have had, and by all accounts did have. Two of Britain’s sons who saw through England’s success in what could be argued were two of its most consequential coalition battles, connected by family, and such a monumental landmark.

Sometimes, I feel there is a huge difference between us, and them. Back then, they did greater things, accomplished greater success from the ground up, conquered greater tragedy, acquired greater knowledge, and built much, much greater homes. What is that difference? One thing to bridge the gap may be to realize just how important it is to raise your children in a richly nourished atmosphere of morals and education. These homes are such an inspiration! We should continue to build and use them today!

Where is the morality in wasting so much taxpayer money on one family?
@HawkqOjOp
@HawkqOjOp Год назад
@@alanle1471 Designed by former playwright Sir John Vanbrugh, the money to build the Palace and the surrounding 2,000 acres of land were a gift to John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, from Queen Anne and a grateful nation, after he had led the nation to victory during the War of Spanish Succession in the early 1700s. It was actually relatively cheap to build given its size and grandeur - costing only £300,000 back in the 18th century. Even Lancelot Capability Brown landscaped the gardens. The palace remains the home of the Dukes of Marlborough, the present incumbent of the title being Charles James (Jamie) Spencer-Churchill, 12th Duke of Marlborough. Charles James succeeded to the Dukedom upon his father's death on 16 October 2014. Today, Blenheim Palace is worth $235 million (£180m), so I'm sure that the "people" have received the their taxes back ha ha

I made it to Blenheim all the way from Durham. There was a run taking place which I took a wrong turn into and ended up driving through, in the chaos because of the heavy police presence. We had been denied access. All they would tell us was, there had been an incident. So we wandered back to Oxford where people were selling loo rolls with faces of politicians on them, all very puzzling until we got back to our hotel and heard on the radio that night, that the solid gold toilet at Blenheim had been stolen that morning!! As you can imagine,we laughed and laughed (terrible though it was) I was more disappointed at not seeing the palace as we had to leave for home the next day. I'll get back there one day! There was a very friendly lady who lives next to the Church where Churchill is buried. I was doing a grave rubbing and it started to rain! I ended up missing one number off the date on his stone. The lady offered us tea and scones! Other than that, not my day at all lol. So plenty excuse to go back! Edit: I did manage to get a rubbing from JRR Tolkien's grave at Wolvercote cemetery, so not a completely wasted trip!

A truly remarkable place. Been a couple of times. It is, without doubt, an architectural masterpiece and its place in British history assured. The home bequeathed by a grateful nation to John Churchill Duke of Marlborough victor of Blenheim and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill MP, arguably one of the most important figures of 20th-century world-politics is testimony enough as to its importance in our island story. It is well worth a visit and the grounds alone make the entire experience memorable. I think one would have to extremely dull and lacking in something not to appreciate its absolute splendour.

Awesome...in large scale still has many residences around the left and the right of its palace...nor really really quitely... Not majesty owner... the Queen Elizabeth the second, my grandma supports me...i don't know others there... Could you believe me...? Good architecture as a palace, its palace looks like embracing you... like a king who embraces his people... awesome... I will planting many plants here and growing some pets such as cows, sheeps, goats, chickens, or fish... I will enjoy my live here far away from the busy actions there... Very very peacefull palace... To lead Commonwealth, i prefer to lead those members in Windsor castle, Windsor looks strong as a fort or office then they will know my strange and my wisdom... Perhaps you think that i'm the dreamer... indeed i'm the best dreamer... They just don't know who i'm... Nor to be arrogant male but i wanna make a change for the best future... Just holding tightly your hand as well as your heart then praying... Keep pray... Insya Allah, Ameen.🌐🇬🇧❤️

What an amazing series this was/is. Selina Scott does it great justice. Pity she moved to the US!

It’s too bad about how many of these places were taxed out of existence after the War. But, I’ve always been amazed how the rich during the height of the British empire always built mansions to the limits (and over) of their wealth.
