The Blood Angel lore is so much better when you know the Revenant Legion stuff

I’m going to share a story that just came into my mind. I was a soldier. I was not very good at much, but I excelled at soldiering. I had a ton of aggression and I was an athlete in HS. The army molded me into a weapon of destruction. I’m not glamorizing this at all. In fact, this costed me dearly when I got out of the military. The military spends a lot of time shaping young 18 year olds into weapons if you choose those jobs. I was combat arms, went to all the schools, and was part of ODA team. I wish the military would spend the time training soldiers to have an outlet like you see in the Dante novel. It is scientifically proven, and the military knows this. When you take young 18 year-old men and you shape them into aggressive, highly trained individuals before the age of 25 it becomes permanent. The male body frontal lobe isn’t developed until age 25. It took me Nine years to finally get my self under control. Yes, I wanted to be all of those things in the military. I didn’t want to be this person when I got out. I think that that is overlooked so much and could be easily taken care of by teaching soldiers to exercise hobbies like you see in the novel. I am a gardener now and I raise roses and the Pacific Northwest. I have long hair and if you saw me walking down the street you would think I’m some tree hugger hippie. I had to do that in order to find that inner peace

Some of the tragic beauty of the Great Crusade era, was that the Astartes was often able to develop hobbies, side-passions and generally live like people. Ahriman cultivated Vine, the Blood Angels, Salamanders, White Scars, Space Wolves, Emperor's children and others cared about their culture, artistic pursuits and the small things.... So few current Astartes chapters retain these "human" traits anymore.

The first 40k novel audiobook I listened to was The Devastation of Baal, it made me admire the Blood Angels. Then I listened to Dante, and it made me love them.

It makes sense to address mental strength first. With the flaw, I feel like it's important not just to turn anyone into a space vampire

This made me so emotional. In the perspective of the red thirst being an analogy for depression or negative thoughts and black rage as an analogy as something harsher like hate, anger, or suicidal thoughts, the blood angels are such a great motivator to improve yourself as a person. Their's something to be said that the blood angels see it to be greater to sharpen the mind, heart, and soul first than to train in the art of hate and war. To fill one's mind with introspection and honor than prejudice and violence.

6:26 that is the beauty of the Blood Angels, Sanguinius understood that they are more than just psycho-indoctrinated weapons, they can be more. That they must prepare for a time after the great crusade when the galaxy is at peace and the astrates are redundant they must become scholars, philosophers and leaders. It's a shame he would not see that future 😥

Glorious. Warhammer 40k content creators are realy next level. Even though Dante and Mephiston have connections to the Sanginiour (haven't read all the lore yet) I like that they were still mostly regular men who ascended due to their strength, guile, and fortitude.

The Blood Angels resemble the Emperor's Children in a few ways. Both chapters have generally pretty marines, high martial process, and admiration for art and music. However, the Blood Angels use music, art and martial skill as a form of discipline and focus. Conversely, the Emperor's Children practice their martial skills for pride, while art and music are for enjoyment.

I reckon that considering their bloodthirsty nature and fondness for close quarter combat, offsetting that with training in art and culture is a smart move. And probably why the Blood Angels, despite often giving their allies nightmares in their brutal style of fighting, are still considered in high regards by everyone. Violence without control never ends well. Case in point the Flesh Tearers. Also, when all you see is death and loss, that tends to create a very dour grimdark mindset. It needs to be offset with reminders of the finer things in life, the best things that humanity has to offer, to remind you why you fight for humanity.

Angels of Darkness, the 2nd edition army book was my first book because I loved the DA and the Blood Angels. Such an awesome book

The reason is simple to be the well rounded warrior.

Another awesome video, Rho! Listening to this, I couldn't help but think about these neophytes training in performance arts like acting, improv, and interpretive dance lol. I knew the Blood Angels valued the patience and skill involved in artistry, similar to the pre-heresy Emperor's Children, but I was actually really surprised they would begin their training with a whole month of studying in the arts. I would have guessed they would start with a deep dive into battlefield tactics, strategy, hand-to-hand and blade combat, etc. Very interesting look into the Blood Angels.

I didn’t even know the BA existed. My intro to 40k was a paperback ravenguard book I found in a box while deployed in Iraq. When I came home I was omg the BA are my love. The ravenguard holds a very special place in my heart. But I had that rage in me, my battle brothers used to say when I was mad it was a special thing to see. I moved faster, was stronger, and a animal. I don’t know if that was just the adrenaline or battle endorphins changing there perception but I felt the same just full of rage.

The five graces could be easily applied to an artist , as well as common people . Practice and apply brothers of the angel. The other applications will embark you on the path of the Renaissance man , learn ,enjoy and give back freely in humility .

Excellent work here !! thank you for highlighting the incredible Lore of the Blood Angels! Imperium Nihilus Command, Sanguinor and Dark Angel, Black Rage and Red Thirst and more! It is definitely one of the best written factions and with deep Lore.

I would say pre heresy emperors children and probably custodes would dedicate equal if not more time to other things besides war

The Blood Angels are one of the few Chapters who stayed as true to Sanguinius teaching as they could. Honorable warriors who use hobbies to temper their rage underneath.

I think the Salamanders have a unique setup. The take care of their own gear, cool, nothing too strange with that. But, they also live among normal citizens on their home planet. If a gene-line is found between Marine and civilian, there is some try to keep families close by. Plenty of chapters have positive interactions with common folk, but Salamanders up that by a factor of 'kewt x HUGS!'

I feel like this is a problem with real world military too, they are taken out of their community and local culture and come back as strangers. Dantes approach would be a great benefit for modern soldiers and the communities they return to. I'm a veteran
