The South had far more competent officers, which no small part allowed them to take the win despite being outnumbered and more often than not outgunned to on many occasions, I mean just look how many Commanding General of the United States Army Lincoln went through in a 4 year span before he landed on Grant, the Federals had a real crisis of competency for the vast majority of the war. Also even if the whole world went to war with the US and cut us off from global trade, it really would not matter all that much, since despite the commonly held belief that we need global trade, the fact of the matter is we really don't. The US is largely self sufficient, we have plenty of fuel, food, water and people to maintain ourselves indefinitely, something I wish we would exploit these days, but our idiotic politicians prefer to pander to people who hate us and buy products/resources at a inflated cost to keep said people happy and line their own pockets.
