"Strange Fruit" is such a haunting and mesmerizing song. When I first heard Billie sing it, I had chills.. The only familiarity that I have with the lead actress is from her song "rise up".. Didn't realize she was an actor but this looks absolutely amazing, her look and her voice is perfection, and I can't wait to watch..

Just a glance at this trailer tells me that the overall artistry of this film, starting with the acting, but going all the way in to the costumes, staging and lighting, musical arrangement, etc., is amazing. And sadly, there’ve also been too many brilliant Black actresses who’ve been passed over when they shouldn’t.

Fortunately, I didn't know who Andra Day was, so I had no bias, she killed it, and Lee Daniels did an epic job. He said recently that he'd stopped drinking and drugging, that this was his first film sober, and to tell Billie's story with respect and honour to her he needed to be clean. I cannot wait to see films Daniels makes in this next phase of his creative journey, one of sobriety.

Adra Day's voice is epic. Billie Holiday a musical legend. Her song 'Strange Fruit' provokes chills just knowing the origin from which she speaks, and her courage to sing about it during such turbulent times. Andra has been transformed. The look is spot-on and most uncanny, she has captured the unique raspy speaking voice Holiday is known for, that earmarks her songs like a watermark on a canvass. Andra Day's performance of Billie Holiday was phenomenal!! When was a child, and watched Diana Ross portray Billie Holiday, I was mesmerized. But I have some family members who knew Billie, and they said Lady Sings the Blues was a great movie, Diana Ross wasn't able to capture the essence of Billie (i.e., not in singing, resemblance, or voice tone). As I hear family members speak again, it sounds like Andra Day's performance knocked it out of the park! Kudos to you Miss Day!
