The Empire 4000XL Cartridge was one of many private label cartridges made by Empire back in the late 70s. Its a clone of the 66EX and the Pfan. number for the stylus is 239DEC for a repacked Empire original (Empire # 906E) if you can find one or 4239DEC for a generic replacement. An upgraded stylus would be the one for the Empire 66LE/X up to the top Empire 66 QE/X - Empire S910E or S912E, or look for a Pfan. 239PDE or 4239PDE generic stylus. Big Stereo Equipment sellers could get Empire carts with model numbers dedicated to them so as to make comparison shopping difficult. The cartridge ought to sound really good with a NOS or quality aftermarket stylus.

All the brands have a great table. Sanyo and Toshiba have some nice tables.

That unit screams Pioneer PL 570 (the original, not the 80s version) to me. The tonearm, the lateral weight, the platter with the 2 holes...

I have e just acquired a Sanyo TP-1030 direct drive fully automatic turntable. When it is plugged in there is a prominent audible transformer hum... when the motor is turning there is slightly more hum, but now that hum varies slightly in intensity louder and softer as the platter turns. Thinking perhaps I should change the transformer out. Motor and patter turn freely and it holds speed at both 33 and 45
