I just can't stop feeling sad about Sir Chris. I hope he realises just how much excitement and pleasure he gave us, especially during the real golden years of British Cycling, when he was part of that total domination of the sport. All the very best Sir Chris.
I had the privilege and pleasure of interviewing Sir Chris Hoy a few years ago for my radio programme. He was - and still is - a perfect gentleman who enjoyed a joke and freely gave of his time. If ever there is an example of how a Knight of the Realm should behave it is Sir Chris.
Cant help but feel that Michael Mørkov was missing from both the Track stand out performances and this years retirement. The man is a legend and finished off winning bronze in his final madison, after a final season helping Cavendish to his legendary win in TDF this year.
Thanks Dan. Always enjoy your presentations and I really thank you for your comments about sir Chris Hoy. So tastefully done and from the heart you summed up what we've all been feeling since hearing the sad news about his terminal cancer.
Loved the 4km pursuit. Such a shame it’s not an Olympic event anymore. Also, had the great fortune to ride that ‘space aged looking Lotus’ albeit very briefly, back in 1993. Just glad I didn’t crash it, given how historic it has since become. And of course most importantly, such sad news about SCH. Absolute legend. I just hope he and his wife manage to make the very best of the final few years they have together as a family.
I appreciate you pointing out the retirement, passing, and in all ways honoring our athletes who have not made the news by winning today, but by having made an impact on the sport. this closes the circle between our past, our present , and our future greats. what a nice gesture. pure class.
Missed an opportunity to talk about Chloe Dygert setting the women’s 3K individual pursuit world record at 3:15.663 in the preliminary round. Dygert broke her own world record which was 3:16.937. UK’s Anna Morris ran a very quick 3:16.560 (which would have broken Dygert’s old record) in the final to pip Dygert for the gold in the final. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
Julie Leth was part of the team that helped an only 20 year old Amalie Dideriksen win the world champs road race in 2016; to see them win a jersey together Saturday and then Julie again Sunday, was like out of a fairytale
@2:39 mark when Michael Hutchinson said Josh Charlton would have caught Chris Boardman TWICE at the Barcelona Olympics, I had to think about that. Using Chris’s world record set at the Barcelona Olympics of 4:24.49, he would have covered 3619 meters by the time Josh Charlton finished 4000 meters in 3:59.3. Chris would be 381 meters behind. Since there is a starting gap of 125 meters between riders on a 250 meter track, that means Josh would have closed the gap of 125 meters for the first pass, then travel a full 250 meters for the 2nd pass, and still have a margin of 6 meters (really 381) at the finish.
For a moment i thought Michael Hutchinson was talking about Chris Boardman’s 4:11.114 world record set later. In order for anyone to have caught Chris just once (closed the gap of 125 meters) they would have to ride faster than about 4:03.25. Dan Bigham rode 4:02.961 in his Qualifying ride vs Filippo Ganna in 2022 and even faster this past weekend winning the bronze in 4:01.671. So it’s amazing to think that at least five riders now who have ridden the 4000 meter pursuit could have caught Chris Boardman on his epic 4:11 world record ride. These riders are Ashton Lambie, Filippo Ganna, Dan Bigham and the latest two world record holders.
Imagine that, there is a new record in most wins in the UCI Track Cycling World Championships , but he only gets a quick mention. Harrie Lavreysen with his 16 wins, what an legend
Such a wholesome update! Extra credit deserved by Anna Morris: surely an underdog in the IP, where Dygert has set and beaten her own WR 5 times since 2018, but very nearly took it!
Quite recent news but interested to know more and opinions on the St Piran Cycling Team controversy surrounding their bikes with fake UCI stickers on. Pretty big topic.
I think the Belgian champions jersey should be stripped from Eli Izerbit Belgium not getting involved when the bulk of all cyclocross series are based there should act harshly when their champion shows such disrespect and disgusting respect for the jersey. I used to like Eli those days are gone. Treated like a doper for me.🤷 Stupid games win Stupid prizes
Hey there Guys can we get an update onKatie Archebald ? I did to my ankle what she did a week after her and missed nationals but I’m back on the bike just wondering how she is doing.
Strange results. Just a word about "products": most professional cyclists are used to eating lots of allowed but not "human compliant" products. So many different ones, from vitamins to metals (Fe, Zn...), mostly for recovery. And I won't talk about creatine and other synthetic molecules, some we actually produce at a "normal" rate. This sport - mine and yours - should ask itself the sense it has.
but you say it yourself with the all disciplines comment. There are many different disciplines in cycling. Look at all the different distances in running in athletics and all the swimming events
1. Broken speed ganna record wow! 2. Tom P drama... is just about money 3. Rigo football ⚽ dreams... So close on the pronunciation of de Nationale Trofee voor Sportverdienste Dan. You were up there with the bunch 3/4's of the way there, but then... my god, did you butcher sportverdienste. ;)

Why call Israel Premier Tech as IPT? Virtually all other teams are called by their full names, let’s give credit to sponsors when they are due in a consistent manner 🇮🇱. On my side, happy to see Bahrain, Kazakhstan and UAE getting their time under the sun, so to speak. 🇧🇭🇦🇪🇰🇿
Are you not aware of what's going on in Palestine? Maybe the broadcasters are becoming sensitive to the fact that most of the World would like to see anything associated with the genocidal apartheid state be banned from any and all sports, social, cultural events just like anything Russian has. Hearing the name of that country that starts with "I" is abhorrent to many viewers and the broadcasters/presenters surely know that, and are shielding themselves from legitimate criticism for supporting/applauding the cancelling of one country and its people while doing and saying nothing about another in very similar scenarios. The hypocrisy is too much for many and it doesn't help sell the "purity" (heavy sarcasm there) of sport.
Sorry to hear about Sir Chris, but we didn’t need the “god bless you” line. The word is a manmade mental construct, does not exist and should not be appealed to in the public. Just say “we wish you the best” - no need for calling out to imaginary deities.
