Some very good accuracy people don't know enough about him to notice, they portrayed Charles Dickens incredibly accurately in this episode. His colorful shirt, his skepticism about the paranormal, even his depression. The actor in that episode took the role because they did him so historically accurate.

Russell is the writer of the original QAF not the US Version. He also created a show called It's a Sin which is about the AIDS epidemic. If you like supernatural things you'd probably really enjoy BBC's Merlin. There's a lot of overlap with the actors for merlin and doctor who.

This story has the first mention of UNIT (United Nations Intelligence Task Force). It was an organization formed in the late '60 to deal with alien invasions. In the 1970s, the Doctor worked as UNIT's unpaid Scientific Advisor.

41:07 Others have said, but Classic Who was always multiple episodes for a story; but then several stories within a season. It was weird getting used to the term "serial" for those arcs lol But: In the very early years of the show, things were not regular. The show settled down to regularly having 4 episode serials, with the odd 6 episodes (usually to end the season). Yet in the early years... episode to episode... you never knew what was going to happen. Serials could be as short as 2, or as long as 7 or more. There's also a few that ran even longer - And what I loved so much was not knowing. I started watching the TV show with Rose (after I stumbled upon some other bits of the show and Radio series) - but after starting with "Rose", I learned how much older the show was, so I simultaneously started from the very beginning and it was amazing for me. One of my favorite stories from back then (I won't say just when, for SPOILERS, odd as it seems to think I'd be trying not to spoil an *earlier* episode, but anyways lol) - The episode of a new serial started and our Heroes exited the TARDIS and *things happened* and they were completely separated. The next episode played and their stories had diverged so much, it was hard to think how any of our Heroes would ever make it back to the TARDIS, let alone find each other. (My point ends here: No Spoilers) The third episode of the serial began and I was on the edge of my seat - would it end? would it not? No idea Thrilling 😆💙 Through watching the old stuff as I continued to catch up on current (and this was before the 50th) - I could see how the show had been so faithfully revived, even though things had taken such a shift. Even now, as the series has taken another shift: I'm thrilled to eventually find out where it's going 💙💙

24:20 I know I’m a bit late (just found your channel and am so happy to see you reacting to one of my favourite shows) but, there is a rule that the doctor will explain at some point (with the episode most recently upload on this channel as I type this I believe he will have already explained) that you cannot cross your own timeline and I believe because they arrived a year later and set foot there, going back would mean crossing their own timeline. I hope this wouldn’t be seen as a spoiler, I mean it was probably established in classic who as well, it’s just an in-universe explanation to the your question (which is a raised a good point). I haven't seen anyone answer this question for you, and I can't remember if it's addressed in the episode: You asked why they couldn't travel back before Rose had been missing for a year. The short (and far less complicated) answer is that arriving in that time cemented this timeline in place. They can't go back and have Rose show up earlier, because then none of the events that we see in this episode could have happened, so there'd be no reason for them to go back earlier in the first place I hope that made sense. Essentially, a time traveler can't use time travel to interfere with their own timeline. The show will explore this further in the future
