John Wall's come up sounds like something out of a movie. From the lowest of lows to the highest of highs, John Wall's got one interesting story to tell...
You think the only way out of a place like where John came from is jail or the grave? That's what TV shows you. Most people in those situations live their lives without ever getting murdered or going to jail. And @12:00, I know it's a typo, but kinda hard to go 42-42 in an NBA season
He got his family generational wealth and made a good impact in the DC community. The last few years of his career have been tough, but it did last over 10 years with 5 all star appearances.
@@mikethomas4368 shows you're speaking without doing a ounce of looking, a simple 5 seconds on google would show how out of pocket you are, did you even read the comment?
Well russ cant shoot, But he’s flourishing as a point guard later on in his career, You don’t necessarily need to shoot that well, just learn the game from a playmakers lens
@@RenzaissanceTV true but oddly enough westbrook is a weird outlier since even though clearly his athleticism has faded from his prime, he’s still very athletic enough to get to his spot. If he had more skills like a floater he would be so much better rn
I’m from Baltimore so I don’t have a team but after I saw his highschool hoop mixtape and he landed in the closest city to me with a team he was my absolute favorite basketball player from the his senior year of highschool until like his 3rd year on the Wizards.. still one of the craziest hoop mixtapes I’ve ever seen🫡
I was a big fan of him and the wiz during that time. I still remember going to practice and seeing on the phone he had dropped 52 pts and 8 asts in a loss to orlando in the 2016-17 season. At that point i knew his team wasn't going to make it far without him, not even with beal on the team He was top 3 in the east, and arguably top 10 in the league. Fast, great playmaking, great defence, great at the rim, and good midrange. He was ok from 3 too. And, probably the most important attribute, he was a leader He got injured right when things were going well with them, he was beginning his prime years with amazing stats This shit sucks. Hope he finds a team willing to take him, but the clippers will always remain the best place where he could have stayed imo
I'm a huge fan of him as well. His potential was such a waste and the organization didn't give him that opportunity. Honestly, it would have been nice if Wall's prime was with the Wizards right now along with Porzingis and Kuzma. And Beal could be the Manu of today's game being on the bench or get a secondary superstar to pair with Wall but the only thing the Wizards did was give him a washout 37 year old in Pierce at that time... I wish the Wizards sign him and retire as a Wizard.
@@MIGGYME1 in 2016-17 he was top 3 in the east, imo interchangeable with isiah Then in the west there were westbrook, durant, boogie, kawhi, curry, chris paul and some others. You can argue he was top 10 at that time, barely in the top 10, but still. Tip 15 for sure though
@@trigun442 he was unlucky. Washington didn't accomplish anything since his injuries. Who knows if they would have been able to build around him, i remember boogie wanting to play with him during those years. Beal would definitely be the 2nd option if was would have been healthy and on the wiz, with tingus being the 3rd one. Kuzma would be the 6th man. These are solid foundations to build a title contending team John was similar to boogie, both super talented but got destroyed by injuries
Wall is one of my top 3 favorite players ever (I’m a wizards fan) he did his thing the injuries held him back in the end but he accomplished a lot and is forever loved for what he did here
At least top 10 in the East for multiple years when healthy , that 2016-17 season was really the chance they could’ve made it passed the second round honestly
Wall was an outstanding NBA player and I doubt fans in the East will soon forget about him. Who knows? He might not be done yet... Good vid and good luck getting eyeballs!
I now see that this is kinda common in the NBA. You get an all star caliber player and the team either doesn't try to build around them or doesn't know how to do it. Wall had the bad luck of being in this transition period of the NBA of where we went from pick and roll to 3 and D play style.
It’s a shame that a team like the Cavs wouldn’t pick John Wall to come off the bench. Any playoff team could use a point guard like him for some second unit scoring
Beal is NOWHERE close to how impactful Wall was with the Wizards and for DC basketball. I can't believe the organization stuck with Beal and gave him a max.
@@MIGGYME1 and the Wizards screwed up with that decision. He was extremely inconsistent even when Wall was healthy with the team. The organization should have seen that through.
honestly. he was amazing. Fuck rings, fuck allstar appearences. He made the Wizards organization proud. He made the Wizards fans proud. He made all of DC Proud to have a star wearing their logo. He's the best player since Arenas and lets be honest, if they could have drafted someone else in the 09 draft (was it? or '10, cant remember) they made have made it further in the playoffs, but that being said. can't be sad about his career, he did so much for a fanbase, an org, that was struggling for a lifeline. John Legend.
My favorite player of all time, been following him since his High school days to now, really glad I had the chance to see him play in person even thought it was for the Clippers
He definitely deserved it. Just a shame he got injured. Prime John Wall was pretty much like Westbrook with better shooting, more bball IQ, better passing and better defense.
one year i went to Washington DC for a few days for business and i went down to chinatown there. The coolest thing was seeing that arena right in the middle of chinatown then i noticed there was a game that day so i bought a ticket online and went to watch it. Man that day J Wall was all over the place i couldnt believe how good this man was it was so exciting. I became a fan right away and have been a Wizards fan ever since even though i live in SF. I wish this man the best he is such a great guy and one of the greatest guards i seen playing the game.
Thanks for this video, really good work. I never knew about Wall's tough upbringing, it's very impressive that he rose above all of that adversity. Even with elite talent, to cope with all of that noise and keep up with life in your early years is very commendable. Just crazy what some people have to go through.
I will not abide any “Polish Hammer” slander. Marcin Gortat was a solid center. He was a great pick and roll center and passer. Especially considering the inconsistent play and general dumb-assery of Javale McGee and Andray Blanche who were Wall’s other two Centers in Washington. He was also incredibly available, only missing 8 games as a Wizard.
John Wall is one of my favorite players of all time. He played with his heart and always played every game like it was his last. I was always inspired with how much purpose he always played with. You don't see that much more these days.
That was a great video! He’ll always be my favorite player! Could someone out there PLEASE make a legit career highlight video! I’ve been dying for one!
As a rockets fan, I was super pissed when we traded for him not because I didn’t like him or anything but because Westbrook the year prior before the pandemic was going off with Harden and he was dealing with injuries in the bubble
Man thank you for this segment. Made me tear up a bit. Wall was destined to be the top 2 best player in the east and definitely a top 5 point guard in the league. I swear had they beaten the Celtics in 2017, I'm 100% certain they could have made the finals.
Was part of my favorite playoff series of all time, Boston vs Washington in the Isaiah Thomas year, Wall and Beal were electric but Thomas just went tf off and won that series himself, series where both those teams hated each other
Man wall was special you never really see someone so fluid who isn’t a twig you can tell he’s not the same person as he was before but I wish Brooklyn would sign him to push Simmons harder than they are right now they are handcuffed to ben so they may as well try to instill some sense of work ethic which John has a lot of. They are both incredibly talented but one isn’t working on his game at all while one was a top 5 guard for half a decade I still have a little bit of hope that Simmons steps up to the plate and balls out but nobody is challenging him to do better and I feel like wall is just the guy to do it
His mom paid for an AAU tournament instead of paying the light bill…. Oh Yuh… it’s on now. Love to hear this. John Wall will forever be my favorite high school basketball player
I hope that a team out there would give wall one last try. Even if it means he has to come off the bench John wall this season so far wasnt really playing that bad. Yes He hasn’t played like he use to but you can tell he is trying and giving everything that he has left in him
My only issue was he would sometimes give up when teams would go on runs, or make a big play, If he handled those typa moments better, Wizards would’ve been a great team, They had great pieces, From 2013-2017, The wizards could’ve gotten far in playoffs if wall and Beal stepped up, and had more hunger
Let me tell you this, John Wall is a God in Lexington. I know this because I'm from Lexington and just about anyone who played for Kentucky who became someone in the NBA is basically a God here. This city loves John Wall.
John wall gets such a bad wrap.. he was a great PG in the traditional sense along with God Given athleticism. Great defender too.. wasn’t the best shooter however he improved.. Great decision maker in the full and half court and the PR. He made a lot of his players better like Beal and Gortat and prolonged Nene and Pierces career. What let him down was unfortunate playoff games the went down to the last second, his front office and location which harmed them when recruiting free agents. Their front office is kinda stingy and isn’t savvy enough to put together a contending squad. One of the best I’ve seen at the position and still think he can contribute to a good team like Milwauke, Chicago, DC, NY, San Antonio.. there’s a few teams that could do with his help.
Wall got a 200 million $ contract and he’s currently the greatest PG the Washington Bullets/Wizards ever had. What fall from grace did he have. He’s in his 30’s it’s over nothing wrong with the great career he had…
I wanted john wall instead of Bledsoe as a bucks fan. I wanted it so badly. Still wonder with the right team and motivation around him what woulda happened
Seems like a good guy. but athletes get injured. He made a fortune, hopefully he’s able to hold onto it and have a good life after his basketball career is over.
I am very happy for John wall, however, for others that grew up similarly to wall, people need to stop the narrative that basketball is their only "way out". They need to promote the idea of staying in school and trying to get a degree or learn a good trade. They can get out like that also. You don't have to be a rapper or pro athlete or be related to one to have a happy life.
John Wall grew up the way JA MORANT thinks he grew up smh my man’s actually shot back at the opps .. got in he league and left that life alone . Yea we had the “gang banging wall” era but atleast we knew he wasn’t faking it
