"By increasing the difficulty you'll have to read up on monsters in the beastiary, prepare oils and potions and use your signs more strategically" *So that was a fucking lie* Casts Quen
So true, with just quen youre fine on death march + level scaling. Youll die often, but its no challenge. Using decotions/potions make it faster, not much easier
Hey, reporting after taking most of your advice to heart. I figured - if it's really the game of the decade, I might as well experience it in all it's glory. I started with the books, went through Witcher 1 & 2, moved on to 3, started on Death March (first playthrough ever) aaand just finished Blood and Wine yesterday. Only thing missing was the mods (just got the one for the textures). Having done all of that, I can not imagine how much more weird it would feel to jump straight into Witcher 3 without the homework, a bit like eating a banana without peeling it first. Thanks for the tips!
"you did all this work, so why not play everything?" People who modded Skyrim for 100+ hours and didn't remember what they even wanted to do in their playthrough:
0:33 Almost. In Polish, the letter C makes a slightly different sound. It's more like a T and an S combined into one so CD Projekt Red is "tseh deh proyekt red". Also, we roll our Rs, kinda like you sometimes do in Spanish.
I am in the process of growing my hair and beard before bleaching it. Meanwhile I am making all the different armour sets and weapons so I can cosplay whilst I play. Just another 300 swords and 60 armour sets to go.
Some steps make sense, reading the books and learning the map is really important, at least on the books the geopolitical situation of the world is really important. Maybe the mods or playing it in polish are a bit too much but dunno.
When you have like 200+ hrs, 15 mods running, graphics on ultra and still haven’t finished the main quest because you’re wayy to busy OCD’ing side quest.
velezf216o me too, I save the main quests for the last and for happy ending and to say goodbye to Gerald and say goodbye to video games when i finish witcher 3
I beat all the side quests and contracts in the main game + Hearts of Stone and their main stories in 75 hours. NG+ DM w/ enemy upscaling. Are you just really slow or something?
@@starsapphire2013 There is a mod called The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition (W3EE) which will change many aspect from the vanilla game and make you feel like a true witcher
This video is a masterpiece, well done. I just think you could have higlighted that DLCs are mandatory for the ultimate experience. You know, the feeling when you feel like you are done with the main plot, but there are still two other "full size" games to play.
Heart of stone is really short if you have to call it another "full size" game. I literally finished it within one day while blood and wine took me almost week. Of course I "wasted" a lot of time exploring the fantasy of Toussaint.
I'm surprised there was no mention of Thronebreaker, yes it was released after The Witcher 3 but chronologically it's before and although Geralt only cameos it still has the great feel of the Witcher world. I don't think it gets enough love.
Ironically, when i first played TW3 i wasn't into RPG's and i was just curious how my pc would run it since the graphics looked amazing on YT, 5 hours into the game i was blown away by how good the game was, i was so hooked that i decided to play The Witcher and The Witcher 2 prior to finishing the third one to understand who the characters are and what was going on in the grand scheme of things.
I loved this game so much. I was having so much fun with the all the interesting characters and questlines and the combat was a blast. Then after maybe like 70 hours of time invested into this game I ran into a glitch and I’m unable to progress. (Possible spoilers below) I got to Kaer Morhen and I had to do three quests. I helped both lambert and eskel and then I only had to help Yennefer with her megascope. Only the quest marker was on top of one of the mountains you can’t get to. I’ve done my best to try to walk all around the mountain and there is no way to get up I just slide down the sides. After watching some gameplay videos I realized that the quest marker was supposed to be in the tower in kaer morhen. I don’t know what to do now. I love this game so much I really don’t wanna just abandon it. I if anyone can give me some advice that would be great.
you ever tryed useing a diffrent save file. there will be tones of back saved files u can load up. uless u dnt save the game then youl just have 3 auto saves. a alway saved game and keeped a save from days ago just incase a faild a mission and had to go back a bit.
me when i see they recommend mods: :) me when i see they skipped the good mods again : :( for real when do these sites start promoting amazing mods like Enhanced Edition or good lighting mods like Immersive Lighting, Phoenix Lighting mod, Real lighting etc. no wonder when the mods you recommend seem underwhelming. you missed most of the good ones
I read all the books after playing Witcher 3 in 2017 and now I want to re experience that again, this time playin w1 & w2. This video was my exact plan on doing that lol
I'm on my first play through on PC. Just got to level 7. Baron trying to get me to go help him get his wife from the witches. I'm sold. I love it. The all ultra+ settings made it playable for me. I tried it one time before. And spent too much time in white orchard and got burned out and the graphics looked sub par. Really got me this time though. I got a 3080 12gb and i7 12700k and get about 70 to 90 fps with everything max except Ray tracing.
yeah but honestly you don't need to play them first. At all. They are played completely different and the third game is the best in the series by leaps and bounds. Honestly each of the three games have completely different game play feels to them to the point that if I didn't know better I would of thought each of the three games were made by different developers.
Alex Oelkers I agree. I’ve played Witcher 1, but never finished it. Played Witcher 2 and finished it. When I played Witcher 3 and the DLC’s I was pretty involved into the world of Witcher. I felt like I was on to the next chapter of Witcher. You’re right though, you don’t need to play 1&2, but it sure makes the world of Witcher seem richer 🙂
@@comment.highlighted I just watched a long video covering events of first two games. Makes it easier to understand the whole Triss and geralt situation and then you can just skip the simulation of witcher 2 saves and pick what characters to keep alive.
@NS Blaze That’s was a great idea 🙂 I guess I’m old because I was in my early teens when the Witcher originally came out, so I played them when they were originally released 🙂
He missed a few things. You’ll also need to: -learn to play Gwent and play it for at least 100+ hours. -go through actual Witcher training(yes, including the trial of the grasses and the whole “sucking the marrow of an algoul’s bone thing as well) -Slay a higher vampire, a werewolf, a dragon, and a-you know what? Might as well throw on at least one of each known monster on the list. Just so nothing slips between the cracks. -Bang a sorceress -learn polish -learn the real way to pronounce CD Project Red(u won’t even need your Witcher senses to find this one) -send a blast of Aard right into the face of your school bully -use igni to cook every one of your meals -get portal-sickness -hurl a Samum into the bathroom stall to prank someone -place a dragons dream into the pocket of your rival when he’s talking to some girls. -defect a crossbow bolt(took me a few tries, not to worry tho. ‘Tis but a flesh wound!) -learn to fight with a two-handed sword(probably should’ve done this before the crossbow bolt thingy...🤕)
Oh I almost forgot about the other signs: -use axii to get some good deals with ur local merchants(ye olde Walmart’s, car stables, ...the black markets... Just consider it a fancy way to haggle) -use quen to win at a game of dodgeball. -use yrden to finally expose that monster under your bed and beat his generous furry **s.
The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition mod makes the combat much more skill/reaction based, and overhauls a lot of systems to make the game harder in a reasonable way. I'd highly recommend checking it out.
How did yo stay under leveled in this game? It seems like every action I take levels me into the roof. Had to stop exploring altogether so I didn’t two-three shot everything in the main quest line. Wish it had the option to not level like in Dark Souls or even Skyrim where you can avoid leveling up your character if you choose to do so.
I just got the game a week ago, and i play it the same way i play every game. I go for Platinum my first playthrough, doing every quest, side quest, collecting everything possible. This game can get overwhelming playing this way, but I love it. There's always a ton of shit to do.
I can't emphasize playing the previous games enough. I loved Witcher 3 when I came in blind, but after I got the backstory from Witcher 2 especially, I had such a greater appreciation for all the cameos and minor characters. If you don't want to read, get a summary of W1 and jump in to witcher 2
I can't stress enough how amazing this video is. I got baited from the title cuz I wanted to see just how "wrong" I have played myself. Turns out a LOT and I have at least 1 thousand hours played. THUMBS UP FOR VIDEO!
Ill admit, I relate to this guys enthusiasm for a pure playthrough very much. I did play the witcher 1 and 2 and loved every minute. However, I am reading the books after playing the witcher 3 :x
I like when he says I am itching for a game of gwent because he knows I am. Geent is a sparse encounter and when I am halfway exploring I get the itch to meet my next victim at the game.
After reading the books, it actually made it feel worse for me, the ending of the book is just so perfect, I dont think it feels right to continue, but knowing all the characters and places and politics is neat
It's gonna take a lotta disciprine, but if you're up for it you can do what I'm doing on my fifth playthrough...where your patience allows, run instead of sprint. go on foot instead of on roach (who will be on a roof anywho), fast travel way less, turn off objectives n stuff on the minimap, and in lots of cases quite literally walk from place to place. this works for any big game like this, rdr, gta etc. optional bonus ideas include using torches when it's dark/rainy, wearing nice clothes in town or at least taking your armor off (which leads to times where you get into combat feeling unprepared, which is exciting), eat regularly, and try to get to an inn or friendly building before meditating : ) also, take skills that seem fun and don't just stick to one kinda combat. you get so op by the last 50% of the game that it's not like dark souls where you have to do that to survive. Crank the difficultly as high as you're comfortable with ; p
The correct way to play Witcher 3 is to set it at the highest difficulty (Deathmatch if I remember correctly), do all the quest, read all the material and most importantly play gwent with the characters as the most inconvenient or difficult time as possible. Like after a guy finding out his apprentice was slaughtered by cannibals or helping your friend getting revenge for his death friend, you know naturally.
I am from Poland and I am suprised from your prounance of CDProjekt Red. It is far from ideal, but is very good especially cuase of polish accent is hard slavic and english is very soft in comparison. And btw, good video.
So I did most of what you said. I read all the books (Loved them). Watched in depth videos of the first 2 games (skipped 1 but played 2). I'm now 100 hours into W3 and have loved every second of it, on death march! I'm still not finished yet. Have done every side quest, every contract, every treasure hunt so far. Reading the books and lore videos was the best thing I could've done (thank you for recommending that). Having that amazing backstory and knowing each character was so cool! I'm still blown away by all the detail CDPR put into this game. Didn't have the money for a pc so i played on ps4. Still amazing. Thanks again!!!
I just need to say something: there is actually no official map for the Witcher universe. The author has already seen some fan made maps and said that they were pretty accurate despite some things, and there have been maps made for the Witcher that would be considered official, but none of them are actually canon
The Witcher 3 doesn't have a native language. It wasn't just localized. There are multiple screenplays for multiple languages. No need for the Polish language
@@UlsterHound77 I'm saying both versions are just as good as the other and the preference is subjective. After spending so much time with Geralt's voice in one version, to be told to switch to a different one because it's the "correct" way to play the game is not just unreasonably, but detrimental to one's experience
That date is actually my birthday 😍😍 cheers!! I'll revisit the Witcher after my current playthrough of RDR2 ☺️☺️ As I've never played the previous titles, I do owe that to myself. Cheers ☺️☺️
been using the absolute camera mod for years now and it makes so much of a difference. the original game's camera was so far away from geralt it was almost an isometric perspective, and I fucking hate isometric games....
I actually followed most of this lol. Played on Xbox in 2015. Since then I read all the books, built a kickass PC, played witcher 1 and 2, downloaded mods, and replayed the entire game on the hardest difficulty. Not in Polish though 😜
Hardest part of getting full experience in Witcher universe is polish - learning language (to experience both books and games as they were written) and folklore/stories (since they get referenced a lot) is a challenge few will dare to face.
Simulating a Witcher 2 save is for casuals until you run into a bug that screws over carrying your save over and lets you know that a character that you let live is actually dead, hours after you started playing. That’s when you restart, and just simulate.
One thing the video failed to mention is: 1. No using of oils 2. No using of bombs 3. No using of igni. 4. Limit use of yrden. 5. Only use alt-quen instead of regular quen. 6. Axii only for conversations. 7. No dodge rolling. The book Geralt never used signs much, he only ever used aard and quen bubble for combat. Igni basically only made a witcher's hand hot, yrden was used to seal a tomb, and axii was only for conversations. In the books, there were also no oils or bombs. Since you've spend countless hours on the book, it's better to be immersed in the game by being true to the source material. ;)
ok i have like 20 books to read first but then i'll order and read the witcher books (i've been wanting to for months anyway) and then i'll play the games again and come back. see you in like a year!
To be honest, I actually, (no joke) follow your advices. I'm halfway through the books and grinding money to improve my PC. I know that the video was made in this comedic style but this really sounds like a sound strategy that I am implementing since about last 3 months.
BRO NO! don't spend all that money just to have "a better experience". Nothing about the story will change, nothing about the mechanics will change, Geralt isn't gonna look more sexier nothing except for graphics maybe a bit. Just play the game bro you'll love it regardless of what you do beforehand.
500 hours or so? How? I completed Main game and DLCs, explored all locations inlcuding every skellige "?", 100% achievments and every quest in 185 hours on hardest difficulty.
I've read the books, played the third game once (on my second playthrough now) and yes, I did watch the first two seasons (one *is* better than the other). I wish I could play the first game, but I don't have a PC nor do I have internet at home (can't afford either one). Yes, I do have an Xbox 360, and I could play the second game, but I have kids. Kids running around the home make it rather hard to play an adult game on the 360, while working full time.
I bought this game back in 2016 with all the dlc and I've put 250 hrs into it. I went a few yrs without playing but I'm back into it. I want to get every single side quest and question mark along with the dlc of course. I'm level 26 currently and am at the brothers in arms main quest. I'm going to do all Witcher contracts, main and secondary quests and all the treasure hunts. This game is massive and amazing but it can get to a point where you over level and are too powerful and have too many coins especially with all the stuff you can loot. I don't plan on playing a second playthrough so this one playthrough will probably take me a good 400 hours if not more. Really hope they make a part 4.
Did a personal mod tweak, adding a gearbox to boats and Roach; Shift/Ctrl to shift up/down, then just gallop on autopilot; no fast travel, no minimap :P Also disabled soft lock enemy targeting, nerfed Quen a bit and made alcohol only restore 1 use of potions (want more? drop and brew the potion again). Bombs and oils have limited charges and need 1 alcohol each to refill charges; Witcher senses toggle but forces walking; auto parry while not attacking. Also wanted to sort quests regularly by level or proximity, but never got that working. Sadly all the above conflicted with Enhanced Edition mod. PC rox!
I got close to this. I read almost all of the books (I’m still plugging at Tower of the Swallow) and I’m playing on Switch (I know I know). I didn’t play 1 or much of 2 but I watched all of the cutscene movies and I know the plots of both.
The books are good, but honestly you can get the cliff notes of what's going on just by paying attention, reading char entries, and reading the books scattered throughout the game. The physical books are good if you want to get a more detailed accounting of things.
While we are on the subject of mods, The Nitpickers Patch is absolutely essential as well imo. For even more fixing, the Besserwissers Patch does compliment it very well.
I skipped the first 6 steps, but I've played 6 times, currently on my 7th playthrough. Plus, I'm a completionist. Did every single mission (found them online) Got the platinum Got all grandmaster gear sets Trying to unlock and completely level up all abilities in all skill trees. Also, In my latest playthrough, I've discovered all of velen and novigrad, done all side quests. Haven't even met the baron yet
What happens if when selecting whether or not to simulate a Witcher 2 save I choose to cancel or ignore, I didn't know what to do at the time so I didn't select anything
The Witcher 2 is actually available on xbox 364 backwards compatible on xbox 1. And it actually has an xbox 1X Enhanced patch that brings the game up to about 4K resolution. I actually recently just played through that game and forgot how good it was
Haha I started doing most of this before this video. Currently on ‘A Little Sacrifice’ chapter of The Sword of Destiny. Glad to see others doing it as well!
I played through the Witcher 3, then decided to read all the books. I already built a PC. I have 1 book left to read, and the date he listed was 3 days ago. I suppose I was reading a bit slow. I'm so excited to play the game once I am done reading.
the only thing you should skip is question marks spots in Skellige waters. Those are far too many, and all the same - dive in and grab some mediocre loot while shooting sirens with your crossbow. Unless you installed and cranked up Friendly Economy mod, or something. Also, to really feel the hard life of a monster hunter - install W3: Enhanced Edition mod. Now I understand why Geralt hates taking contracts on drowners - too little pay for too much work
Not sure what will take longer: the complete upheaval of my life to successfully play W3 OR waiting and praying for Bethesda to release a good successor to Skyrim. I do already have a decent understanding of Tamriel.
Blood and Broken Bones is probably the most accurate difficulty. Death March has simple Drowners killing Geralt more easily than he can kill them, Story and Sword makes it easier than it could be but is still fun. Just the Story is too easy. Blood and Broken Bones. Story and Sword is probably the most fun intro to the game, but if you’re going in a second time and want some more realism just move up to Blood and Broken Bones. That’s what people were searching for when they found this video. If you want a better grind, I guess move up to Death March. But I’m more of a story guy and with a game this big, I’d rather not be bogged down by losing to inferior opponents because I didn’t use tons of potions and all that.
So what you are saying is that you would rather not do it the right way so that you can enjoy a good story. OK. Books are for stories matey, be more Geralt-like, as in NOT getting killed by drowners. Master the combat system and utilize the wealth of knowledge and experience Geralt has attained through his travels. Kick arse and take names for the Bestiary. That would be more like Geralt.
I just started replay on blood and broken bones difficulty and my goals are: Be and ultimate Gwent master and finish all quests and uncover all locations :)
OK, I'm opening myself up to ridicule but as a new player I've already started over once and am struggling (and learning) to keep going. I love this game, it's beautiful and for a rookie like me challenging. BUT, it also has BUGS. At first I thought it was just me but the harder I try the more of these bugs I run into. And, I'm not alone. Lots of folks have the same problems with the same quests. So, what the heck??
Just started diving into the Witcher series cause of quarantine lmao, Gotta say, just barley watching the series on Netflix one episode a day and playing the Witcher 3 main quest line for the first time is so satisfying, I’ll leave off getting to know the new characters I’m learning to play and love in the game, then I’ll watch an episode of the new series on Netflix, and I’ll be pleasantly treated with a backstory of that character in the series. I’ll see how grown up Ciri is now in the game, but then we’ll understand and learn about her struggle with learning and controlling her power in the first couple episodes of the Witcher, I’ll meet Jaskier in the second episode of the series and then I have to save him in the game lol, I’ll see how complex and intriguing Geralt’s and Yennifer’s relationship is in the game and start the last wish quest talking about their relationship and then I get a backstory of their first djinn encounter and story in the series, I’ll see the chartered development of Yennifer in the series and the choices she’s made, and then see who she is in the game and I gotta say this combination is making me fall in love with the whole series as a whole. 😁 no right or wrong way of playing the game, but as someone who just started getting into this series for my first time ever. This method works so well for me!!!
