Hello everybody! It's long overdue, but here is the video in which I rank the difficulty of every single boss in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, including the Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone DLCs! This video ranks the difficulty of every single boss in the game, including the optional bosses from the main story, side missions, Witcher contracts, optional encounters; any boss we can encounter in the game!

Hi. I'm aware there are mistakes in this video. I'm aware I'm not playing the game particularly well, and I'm aware that I should have used decoctions and such to make some of these encounters easier. I got very attached to my playstyle and stuck with it. I also played the game multiple times for this video and wanted to make the process less arduous. This all seems to have angered and belittled this video's enjoyment for a lot of people. I apologise for this. Since the creation of this video I have played snippets of the game with decoctions. I would not change very many of the ranking positions in this video regardless. I still had a lot of fun making this video, but for now I think I'm done responding to comments. A lot of them aren't very nice due to the mistakes I've made. If you desperately want me to respond to something you can contact me elsewhere. I hope this video was still enjoyable and I hope you're all keeping safe amongst Covid-19.

The toad is one of those bosses that makes me open the inventory and look for useful things, and it has a potion that turns all the poison damage into a cure and made the fight much easier

@@luislocks7078 Yeah, more than plenty of people pointed out the golden oriole. Admittedly, I feel pretty bad that I made this video neglecting so many useful decoctions. I just really enjoyed this game and wanted to make something somewhat unique. I wasn't expecting so many people to actually be that upset about some of this stuff.

@@spoons250 I failed the dwarf gangster guy's side questline because like 15 seconds after that first horse race started roach turned 90° to the right faster than I could have even accidentally bumped the stick and next thing I knew the dwarf was yelling at me. Whiplash.

I love that if you play the game properly (more akin to Geralt's morals) you wont encounter like 30% of those characters as bosses but as creatures you help.

@@vincentbokern5658 With right build you can do that even on Death March with upscaling on. Alchemy with some combat skills is beyond strong, add Euphoria to that and here you go ( even pre BaW dlc mutation builds that have Euphoria in mind are silly ).

Tbh, wouldn't have been able to do that without the Next-Gen update which made Aard pretty OP with 1 single ability. Coupled with grandmaster griffin armor later on and it's ggs for everything. Fought all the Olgierd clones in the nightmare at the same time too. Just kept slowly going away and spamming Aard/Yrden for % damage till they all died. Was pretty cool to finish them all off at the same time with basic attacks near the end. Took a few tries.

Dettlaff was definitely the most difficult for me. Idk if it changed with updates, but in the flying phase the bats oneshot you even with quen active. Second was Iris's greatest fear. Neither regular Olgierd nor the frog were anywhere as difficult.

Active shield with the sign intensity boost that comes from a 3 decotion power euphoria tanks the bat attack, albeit only barely. Standard quen is useless cause its a coded as a multi hit attack

detlaff is one of those bosses that i had to tried many times to beat it. but its bats is pretty easy though, just run the opposite direction and slightly side right and his bats wont bother you

I personally found Detlaff the hardest boss fight, I needed many tries. Olgierd comes right behind him. Toad Prince, Iris and Caretaker weren't that hard for me.

@@rangatang5548 if you build Gerald properly (depend on your play style) every fight is easy even on DR and, depend on your LvL, very short or long. With high crit chance and dmg build with short attack i can kill oponents up to 15 lvl above my character with relativ easy. Just dont get hit because armor not gonna help but you can kill oponent with max 10 hits. Sign focus build is also good but not for my taste. Bombs and crosbow build are litte mem but it works espactly rly fun on standard defecaulty. Pure swordsman is not bad and you be more memy fitghing on horse as much as you can.

For some reason I breezed through olgierd on story and sword, tho got my ass handed to me multiple times by road prince, olgierd does a string of attacks and then you can parry is red attack and deal double damage then repeat, probably alot harder on higher difficulties tho

The toad prince was the hardest boss in the game to me by multiple points. I had some other fights that took some time and practice and learning, but that damn Toad handed me my ass relentlessly and I felt like I was getting no where and learning nothing every time

Olgierd was by far the hardest for me because my gameplay style was not suited for parry bosses and for that Olgierd kicked the shit out of me on the last fight. When I fought detlaff I found him the most enthusiasm figth of all bosses but not really hard ( maybe the experience I had at that point made a huge difference since I was already at level 75+)

Maaaaaan. I got the game one week ago. I had no resources( food etc) cause I thought it would be a simple mission: find the (most probably) dead wife, maybe fight some wolves, the end. I had to lower the difficulty to get past that werewolve. Shit was frustrating.

Yes! She's such a sweet lady too. I found a letter from her father at the side of her house on a bench, saying that the family moved to another town and that they'll keep sending someone once a year to check on her in the hopes that someone will lift the curse. I was hoping Geralt could tell her that but unfortunately there was no such option. It would be cool if she could be reunited with her family in her final days.

Tip for anyone having trouble with any of these....use the decoction that gives health when using abilities that use stamina. That way everytime you cast a sign (usually Quen for a lot of bosses) you gain a chunk of health. Another couple decoctions worth using are troll for constant health regeneration (albeit not a ton but in combination with the stamina->health decoction and decoction that returns 10% damage dealt as your health makes a difference) and the decoction that returns damage dealt as health. Using these 3 decoctions still leaves some toxicity for potions and can save you healing options throughout a long fight by avoiding attacks and continually recasting Quen or other signs while you regain your health. Sorry I cant remember all the names off the top of my head. Theres a skill in the alchemy tree first row that adds maximum toxicity for each level 1, 2, and 3 alchemy formula you have. Which means if you make buying "turn out pages" (decoction formula) and finding potion formula's a priority, mid to late game you will have a maximum toxicity around 250. Don't sleep on alchemy...its just as important to being a great witcher (esp on higher difficulty) as weapons and armor are. I appreciate the time and effort that went into recapping so many bosses in such a great game! Thanks Cosmicborne!

the decoction is Ekhidna, you can also use Ekkimara which increases health upon successful hits. For the third decoction I'd suggest Arachas, lose your inventory weight and put on a heavy armour. use euphoria mutation and you're set. you should also use the alchemy skill where the right kind of oil gives you damage reduction against the enemy you're fighting. you don't really have to rely on quen or cheese with ursine armour if you do all these on ng+.

Started playing NG+, found 4 decoction very useful - 1. Which activites quen if single strike take more than a 3rd of you health 2. A portion of Damage is reflected on the attacker. 3. Successful dmg heals you 4. Increase critical hit chance. For poison type enemies, use golder oracle potion for healing, which works with your own poision bombs .. dmg you enemies while heals you. Pretty cool tactics.. 😁

Haha yeah that was painful, but I found out that you could just go up to where the guy was hiding in the house, they wont follow up there so I picked them of one at the time😅 But damn.. it took me a while before I found that out.. many insta deaths!

How Olgierd fights is V reminiscent of how Vilgefortz fights Geralt in Time of Contempt. Incredibly quick and agile, teleporting to where Geralt is and decimating him quite quickly.

Such as Vesemir told to Ciri: "When you fight a beast, your knowledge counts much than your silver sword!" Using oils, potions and tactics help you to fight much easier in higher difficaulty levels too. I loved the variability in skill tree and there are at least 5 significantly different possibilities in fightingstyle with almost the same effectiveness. Please, try them! ;)

I have managed to kill Toad Prince on the first try probably thanks to carefully listening to what Geralt and others are saying - it uses poison and seems like it was cursed. Superior Golden Oriole, proper oil and suddenly it's not as bad.

So many of these boss fights never happened for me, because I always tried for non-lethal options. Then there are another few boss fights that didn't happen because of choices (for example King Radovid). Just goes to show how big the world is in The Witcher 3. You definitely need multiple playthroughs to experience this amazing game to the fullest!

My thoughts exactly. It's a shame a lot of players don't give attention to bombs and decoctions. They make the gameplay so much better imo. There are a ton of other useful bombs. Etc, north wind on those fast hard to hit monsters etc.

@@Pyllymysli It's probably because of how other games present them. I have a natural urge to not use any consumables or items, like potions or bombs, because in other games they're a waste of time. In this game, it basically forces you to do it on some enemies, which can be very difficult to figure out on your own. I like that they replenish once you meditate, however that natural urge just stops me from using them altogether.

Honestly, i agree with everything, but you missed the hardest i went up against. The elven statues during the cosplay fight. Those mages rocked my world. I died most against them. Then the ofieri mage, then the toad, and detlaff. I somehow skipped olgierd, or beat him so fast i forgot it.

I Had forgotten about the elven statues, i think those could be #1, the Ofieri mage was extremely hard for me because i didnt use any armor or anything, and i didnt wanted to use potions or bombs because it didnt made sense with the history, Also you dont have to fight olgierd it depends on your choices, so it's more likely that you didnt fight him

The toughest for me was detlaff stage 2. I usually could just abuse quen, but when he shot bats at you, he’d eat through that and more. I had a really hard time dodging it. Weirdly enough, I beat stage 2 on the first try but died on stage 3 because I used every healing potion I had in stage 2. After reloading my save, it took me about 15 tries to beat stage 2 again. I finally figured out how to fairly consistently dodge the bat attack. That was a really tough fight. I never fought Olgierd though so idk how I would’ve done with that one

@Ifaj Adgs yup. I think they messed up a little with that animation of O'Dimm being thrown away, screaming like he died or whatever. Or maybe they wanted the player to think he's dead. Probably the case. But the brilliant part of this character is, he is stupidly powerful, I mean he can stop time, even if there's something million times more powerful than him, but can't control time, O'Dimm will win every time. He could kill literally everyone, without any effort, Geralt is literally nothing to O'Dimm, he could kill Geralt on a whim, but he doesn't, why? Because what's the point? Imagine playing an RPG game, you kill everyone on your way, it's fun for 5 minutes, but then you realize, there's no NPC's, dialogues, quests etc. It's pretty much the same for an omnipotent being that O'Dimm is. And also, from the game it seems like the only way he can harvest souls is by finishing the "contract", which I guess is his main goal. Maybe souls keep his youth (assuming he is aging at all) or maybe he uses it for something way above our imagination. Who knows. Whatever, it's just a great character, and DLC perfectly portrayed his power, without any crazy, over the top shenanigans.

4. Overleveled random encounters 3. Soldiers/city guards while provoked, since they're all overleveled and will 1hko you unless you've a god-tier heavy armor build 2. Rats in "A Toweful of Mice" quest WITH ENEMY UPSCALING TURNED ON 1. Falling damage from >2m jump. You literally can't fight this, it just exists.

25:10 There is even a common bug in the game where Eredin just stops lossing health because you are damaging him way too fast and the next cutscene doesn´t load. Happens to me in every freaking playthrough.

Stay calm and wait for their life bar to flash red. When their fist comes, press left trigger to parry. It can be tough, especially if the enemy is a little douche and likes to jab a lot. Also you can't spam Quen so that threw me off at first. Also don't just go nuts attacking. The enemy will just turtle up and block most times. VERY importantly, when you are landing shots, only get in 3 punches at a time. The enemy will automatically counter the 4th and do this irritating stun attack on Geralt. It's bullshit. Just try to breathe and if all else fails do like the other guy said and hold left trigger to just block everything until the enemy does something stupid.

fist fight is easy you just counter attack, dodge away, counter attack, dodge away and repeat. this way he will not do a single fast punch. only strong punches which are really easy to block

55:00 "This fight feels uncharacteristically difficult." That's because even on multiple playthroughs, you're not exploring everything you can do on the game. Golden Oriole potion makes any poison enemies a joke, and CDPR is assuming you've at least done some work upgrading potions other than Swallow.

I was a bit surprised when he mentioned toad prince that high too, since golden oriole literally made it so he healed you... But yes... My strong attack/alchemy/oils build absolutely trivialized every single fight on death march. I had a bit of an advantage though playing the series since the first game... alchemy has always been incredibly useful.

Even though I missed some of the boss battles, due to the choices I made, I agree with your top 10.-20 Especially the Ofieri mage. That one was such a pain in the ass. The rest, you kind of learn how to kill, but the Ofieri was super annoying and killed me a lot of time. Also the Elven statues. And one of the earth elementals, that took literally forever, as I would go in, hit him couple of times and run out of the cave to recover. But yeah. I pretty much agree and Deathlaf was super hard. Though I killed him with pleasure. And Jenny, omg, jenny, I tried her for like 10 different levels until I read somewhere you have to use Yrden. On the other hand, I found the bruxa fights very fun. Even the first one, which was the hardest I guess, but still, I like their style. Anyway, nice video, I know I'm late for the party, just watched it randomly and decided to comment.

@@angelcarma5730 only lvl 7 and I've had good luck and prep time. Very witcher style scenarios 30hrs in two days of no sleep. I killed the light house wyvern by panicking and trying to climb down the ladder and tripping off it into the water. It followed me down and I drowned the bitch with crossbow like a cheesy asshole. I was prepped well but so not ready for the duel but didn't fight fair due to dummy luck. I didn't get the loot since underwater but I got the surprise griffin sword. I had two papers for the treasure hunt but not this one, fuck yeah. 5 mins later while sailing off continuing to oxenford, I hear the basilisk. Another first. It was level 14, mind you I'm still 7 but I have 5 grenades, two superior quality and a precision bolt with nice special named swords and the draconian sword. I chain made spam it and it takes an edge off it. It was rolling and writhing like hell, it comes for me. I threw on qwen and the duel insues while I have two deconcontions on for one extra item use and an emergency qwen when I get hit hard. I take it down attempt 6 since I was super tired from 2 hrs sleep in two days with exams and this game taking over

I have some tips as well that helped me a lot I don't remember all of them but for some of the top 10 ( they aren't in the order shown in the video ): 1. Northern wind , for both the caretaker when the spectres spawn and the toad prince you can remove a big chunk of his health 2. Aard , for shaelmars ( i hope I'm spelling this right ) + tawny owl and you can have them permanently staggered ( almost permanently ) and for the witch of a thousand fables i don't actually know if anyone else had trouble getting her of her broom with the crossbow but i certainly did and the alternative mode for aard ( you know the explosion one ? ) was really helpful Those are all i remember from my playthrough if i remember something else I'll let you know , also the tips in the video are amazing and I hope this work for you as well as they did for me

Its essentially helping hand if you suck and cannot beat the things with only 6 buttons : 1) W,A,S,D for movement 2) left mouse button (light attack) 3) alt (dodge) - these are all you need, if you want to be REALLY sure about your victory then Quen is there for immortality and enemies dont stand a chance The only thing other than gravity that killed me is Dettlaff's bat attack because I just sucked and couldnt find the correct timing and it always oneshot me. Other than that this game is too easy. Fights are about repetition of OP moves, about patience of performing the same thing for a while regardless of what the monster is and what the monster is doing because dodge + light attack takes care of everything.

@@spiderz5145 for real, my build is kinda aard based, the main, then quen, axii and igni are 3rd and 4th yrden basically no(i'm an anime guy and i like wind like powers, so that's the reason)... and thats it, even some enemies who are supposed to be weaker against igni, i prefer to use aard to stagger and deal a bigger damage with sword then i igni does, if i need fire i can use bombs or use incineration(??) rune... he said aracnomorphs are anoying bcuz they keep moving around, true, but aard solves that problem... with any kind of insectoid

Here’s my list: 5. Frog prince - didn’t die a single time, but I exhausted all arsenal on this guys and was close to dying 4. Detlaff - he was alright, predictable enough. 3. Olgierd - real one in front of the burning mansion. Man that one was a couple of loading screens. 2. Olgierd shadow fear - this drove me mad, so many loads. . . . . . . 1. Fistfight with 3 skelligans in Novigrad brothel - that shit was hard, they clock you out in 2 hits. I think I never beat them and just gave up.

When fighting posionous enemies you use golden oidle. It allows you to heal when poisoned. You can completely throw away swallow by just using golden oidle and devil's puffball for everything.

Well, the funny thing about Yen is, that she is very independent woman and in most cases she's right. She knows and understands more than Geralt, because she is way more powerful being. I think that's what makes many gamers and readers hate her. It's not usual to the love interest be more powerful, knowledgeable and indepedent than the male protagonist. But she is just that - one of the more powerful witches with quite good sense of what's going on when it comes to Continent's politics.

Jenny O’ The woods was definitely the hardest one for me, largely because i underestimated that fight. In my first playthrough being slightly under level wasn’t making a huge difference, i was still able to win fights quite easily. This fight actually forced me to use oils and signs which was a blessing in disguise. After this fight i started preparing for every fight, reading the bestiary, getting all the oils, potions and bombs in order. And then going into fight. Elevated the whole experience for me.

Idk why it took me so long but only read the books last year. Replaying Witcher 3 having read the books just adds so much. You really get such a stronger and understanding of Geralt and so many other characters. Wish they used Yarpen instead of Zoltan though.

Detlaff took me so many tries but I was glad. They made higher vampjres out to be such immense, unkillable creatures. Would have been dissapointing had it been easy.

I usually didn't do the Olgierd fight first time through. Second play through I did. It is one of my favorite fights. Also, the unique song for the fight called "You're immortal?" in English, has been my morning alarm for the past... almost 6 years now. It never gets old.

All wraiths are pretty easy with Yrden and specter oil, I used superior spector oil and it was comparatively easy

Well if you play in march with upscale leveling activated in your second playtrough and you are near lvl 99 igri's nightmare is a real nightmare to fight since the tiniest error causes you to get one shoted even with quen activated, also they high a ridiculous amount of HP compared to other difficulties, even with oils it took near 10-15 well placed strokes to kill each one of them.

I liked the Eredin fight. It wasn't the toughest, and I agree with your ranking, but I liked the way he teleports around you and you have to dodge in circles around him. It made me feel like I was really playing someone with superhuman agility and reflexes. I also like that after so much buildup and fear, in the end he's a powerful leader but he's just a guy with a big plan that went wrong.

In the end, Eredin is just another elf with a few magic abilities and enchanted armour. Otherwise (and lorewise!), he's no different to any Scoia'tael you might encounter. Yes, all the Aen Elle look taller, broader, and have more defined cheekbones than the Aen Seidhe. But they are one race, only separated by living in two different worlds for a few centuries.

On ng+ death march he can literally one shot you. Then he actually feels like a final boss which takes multiple tries to beat. I'm not a fan of how the upscaled bosses in ng+ are only made harder by being able to insta kill you, but at least they are more challenging.

He was literally the only enemy in the entire game that gave me any trouble. All of his attacks completely penetrate my armor. Its the only enemy in the game that does that and i wasnt prepared whatsoever.

The regular fights in the game are hard because of the horrible Melee combat. The contact frame syncing is all over the place. The only way to get a consistent melee combat experience is to only attack once, backstep away, and repeat. Otherwise you risk Geralt's stupid ballerina shit taking a few frames too long, which lets basic bitch enemies get a swipe in. Which wouldn't be a problem, but the contact frames are not consistent. One combo could take 300ms to complete, and the same input timing, the next combo could take 440ms to complete. (both 3 hits). This game has literally got the worst melee combat of a AAA release I've ever seen. inb4 Git Gud, I've literally got Dark Souls III fight videos, and play Mordhau competitively, lol.

I was playing on death march like the whole game and almost nothing was actually genuinely hard. Kind of a let down. I had played bloodborne soon before so that’s probably why

It all depends on your own level and gear. For example, the knight at the end of the tournament can be defeated in literally 5 seconds, if you use Olgierd's sword (Iris). The living statues can be a problem but I faced them, when I was already level 48, so no sweat. I guess the hardest fight for me was one of the elementals guarding a treasure, because I was level 22, and he was 30-something (red skull). I beat him first try but it took me like 15 minutes of rolling around, casting Quen and slowly making a dent in him :)

Imrelith is hard and unfair if you don't know how to dodge (not roll) and get greedy by trying to sneak in too many attacks which is a recipe for disaster for almost any game. He has one of the most predictable movesets imo

The first time i fought the Ofieri Mage it took me about 3 hours to defeat him because I was on death march and didn't realize I could put my armour on (after the ship crashes you wake up with only your swords equipped, I thought I had to get the rest of my stuff back by defeating him lol)

I had similar troubles as well, and for whatever reason, I just beat him with quen, my swords, and no armour on, and just thought "Oh it probably appeared in my inventory after I killed him" kind of thing, and just... What the fuck?

I actually noticed I had my gear while still trying to defeat him. Still didn't equip it before killing him though, it didn't make any sense to have the gear on me so I just pretended that I didn't haha.

Did him today on DM on my first playthrough and I did it withour armour xD died twice, but found out he will use his spells on the warriors so used him to get rid of the warriors, then just dodged and slashed him light attacks.. pretty easy imo

My hardest fight was the Troll which you had to beat in a fistfight.... I was super underleveled and the fight took 20 minutes of me beating the shit out of him, while one slap of him would oneshot me

Just in case someone playing the game will read this: - Shaelmars can be lured into hitting the wall by throwing a bomb there. They go after sound after all. - You dont have to trap noonwraiths (and reskins) in yrden if you have Moon dust bomb. It helps with vampires too. - Freezing bomb for anything too agile (but interestingly, for golems too - and then hit them hard in the back). - Poison bomb/fire bomb for mages and gangs od mobs. - Bombs ftw, use them. Dwimmerit bomb negates lot of the magic. - Poison your sword for mages and gangs of humanoids. - Archespores: just burn that weeds with igni :D

You never have to use Yrden against them if you use a moondust bomb. Literally the easiest enemies in the game once you craft it. Wraiths used to be my most hated too until moondust bombs.

A little trick with wraiths that create those three clones and heal themselves up is that they only leech you when you are close to them and you can one shot them with your crossbow from a distance, that completely negates their ability to heal themselves and makes ist very easy

When I did my DM playthrough, I had like 4 deaths on him. It's not overly difficult to get to his 3 phase but I get greedy and try to sneak in 2 hits on his back instead of one bcz him health just drops so slowly

It’s super late but for me, upgrading the crossbow mutation gonna make your game much easier. I don’t have to move around when defeating the toad prince. Just shoot it from distance several times. Also come in super handy when battling flying creatures. The hardest one for me is Detlaff..the one time I decrease my level in-game because I just want to get over it.

Gods the botchling fight! Still gives me nightmares. I was sooo unprepared and underleveled for that bastard. It made me stop playing Witcher 3 until weeks later when I finally managed to beat it after following a tutorial.
