How Magnus does that - getting a win out of a dead-equal midgame position - is a pure miracle. He sits in ambush waiting for his opponent to make a sub-perfect move, and then he attacks, just at the right moment. And when he attacks, there is no stopping him...

Very likeable Chessplayer, seems like a gentleman. Magnus had his most exciting game in years against him in another video, Richard made a genius move and it went into a crazy two double queens ending and a draw. According to Magnus he wouldn't mind if he had lost as he had so much fun . Richard is a very high expert there.

The move i like is a4 B coz it provokes a5 Before taking that d6 bishop with knight a4 move was probably the best move. And Bg5 at the initial stage is aslo a provoking move f6

@@TheRomanianWolf You must try first :) Mr. Richard still has Bishop, I just make another option, although Mr. Magnus might still win. slay the Bishop and Knight to reduce the opponent power. the steps: black pawn b6, white queen f8, black bishop g8, white rook e8, black knight ce7 and continue on your own :) I know I'm just an ordinary online chess player. correct me if I'm wrong.

Help me here I am no great chess player but at 8:05 when Magnus moves the rook from a1 to e1 wouldn't it have been checkmate if he had moved the queen from C5 to F8? The King would not have had anywhere to move and there would be nothing to eat the queen if it went there.

I’m guessing Magnus would have taken the Knight on b6, which is undefended because the knight on d5 is pinned by Magnus’s bishop. And so, rapport moves his king, which alleviates the pin.

I took 5 min to try to answer, but i am too inexperienced. My low skill guess is that it has something to do with protecting the King from the black queen but it's probably more sublte.

@@ericastier1646 that's the thing, I really don't see it. The rook protects the back rank, and the other knight protects this one, so there's no way for the queen to get in.

@@ericastier1646 that makes sense. It leaves the pawn on b7 unprotected, so the queen has to go back, you lose a tempo and immobilize the queen for a few moves, until you can reroute the bishop. It's messy and takes away your attack, which you don't want to do in blitz.

@@mdmarcaassport are you blind? me and agplayz both said Qxb6. White regains the knight, and is also threatening g2-g4 winning a piece, and Qxb7 destroying the queenside.
