Best racing games imo. Forza Motorsport 4, Forza Horizon, Burnout Revenge, Midnight Club L.A. - masterpieces of their genres, 10/10 games, all on one system.
I'm like 30 hours deep in a play through of Lost Odyssey right now. It's a lot of fun. Once I'm done I'm either going to try Infinite Undiscovery or play FFX again.
Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are smack amazing. Also isn't a game being backward compatible also up to the game company as well, not just Microsoft? Lol
The combat animations in lost odyssey take forever to play out. That's the only downside to me about the game. Made me utterly despise the random encounter rate in some of the areas lol
I went through Lost Odyssey like, "Damn, that memory was a real downer! There's no way any other memory can be sadder than that!" Only to learn, like John Snow, I knew nothing...
I was thinking the exact same thing, though I have heard that Blue Dragon was kind of mediocre outside of the Toriyama art. I'm still curious about it.
That experience reminds me of a similar one I had, spraining my ankle during football over the summer before we were about to start playing that fall, and the game I was hopped up on pain meds on the couch playing, was Smuggler's Run for PS2, and Onimusha Warlords
For some reason I can never play a turn based combat. It just feels sluggish and puts me off. It doesn't have to be doom but non-pausing combat always felt so good.
It's not a hidden gem it might be to people who dont play rpgs but if they dont play rpgs they arent going to play it anyways. I'm not trying to be negative I'm just saying people who do play rpgs know about this game. It's not a hidden gem
@@G3RM3X617 Well consider that there's younger people who wouldn't have heard of it. There's only one JRPG that I love more than Lost Odyssey, and that's Golden Sun.
Man, Naruto's rise of the ninja was so fucking great. I bought it at a GameStop like 15 years ago in Chicago back when I went to a cosplay/anime con. lol
RPGs are niche. I know they are popular overall but your average gamer has played less then a dozen ever cause they are so long and grindy. I think more people would play more rpgs if game makers made games less grindy. I quit octopath traveler 22 hours in. I thought it seemed cool but i was already saying wtf this is too grindy. I grinded like 5 hours still got beat by a boss. I said I see where this is going I dont feel like grinding this much on one game. Cause that's just one boss and I know the game is going to make me grind a dozen more times like that. If rpgs were made less grindy more people would play, and those who already play them would play more.
@@WM-mu8ep I’m so with you on that, I’d love to get more into games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 but the grind is already too much in regular games, and RPGs take that to the next level. Would be nice if they gave us a big beautiful world to explore, with collectibles and all that good stuff, but not so much content. Seems like games are just getting more and more bloated, putting quantity over quality and while some people love the grind, it isn’t preferred by most people.
You actually peaked my interest with Operation Darkness, but than I learned, that there's no PAL version, and it's not region free either. Goddamnit 😞😁
Sakaguchi did a great job on Lost Odyssey. Blue Dragon was solid too. 360 also has my favorite version of Tales of Vesperia (the version without Patty).
Lost Odyssey is amazing and the best FF game. Still looks great with the upscale on latest consoles. Another great Xbox JRPG from that era that I wish would get BWC treatment is Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell in Japan).
I had some, uhhhh, fun with Too Human, at least two classes were decent. Also Two Worlds but it runs so poorly I had to use console command on X360. Don't remember details, somthing about rendering range or fog to make it run better... then found out that last dungeon is bugged so you could not 1000/1000 it. Welp.
I never had an Xbox 360, so learning about these older RPGs are so interesting! Great video! Would love deeper dives on Lost Odyssey and Operation Darkness!
I loved Operation Darkness the gameplay is perfect almost like Fire Emblem three houses. The only problem was the camera was not done well. I pray Microsoft does a new game with that type of gameplay mechanics.
Lost Odyssey put Square Enix to shame on that generation. It was a great old school type RPG with a lot to love. Tri ace was very active in those days they brought game after game after game. I also have a soft spots personnaly for two other games, the first being Eternal Sonata which had a beautiful soundtrack and looked gorgeous and Magna Carta 2 which was really good with a nice cast of characters and a great story.
what have you people been smoking.. wut.... like ok i know there is some ''good'' to be found in these games but really? Most horrible voice acting ever made in a game.
The horrendous UI, an empty world, bad writing and the cheap color choise... Not my cup of tea. One of your first rpgs by any change? Then you experience may vary :)
I think Lost Odyssey was the only game I remember playing on Xbox 360 that came on multiple disks like the god tier RPG's from the PS1 era. It was good but I don't think I ever finished it (though I do remember quitting after hitting some of the really depressing parts), There were a lot of RPG's I tried on the 360, but at some point i got really tied of the generic JRPG's and moved over to PC gaming.
I loved *Infinite Undiscovery* so much. I actually had it bc i couldnt find Lost Odyssey, but I love it so soo much and I havent been able to find it ever since. Really wanted it to be on PC but now it makes sense that i couldnt find it, didnt know it was 360 exclusive. I even searched for Infinite Undiscovery 2.... I also got *Tales of Zestiria* because it reminded me of Infinite Undiscovery
Videos like this are so important because they give attention to games that may have not been to well known, even during their hay day. Millions have grown up without knowing even the most common games of previous generations, and they still hold up quite nicely as touched on in the video. Please keep uncovering hidden gems or even the lesser loved games! 🙏
I hadn't even heard of Operation Darkness before this video. If the release timing were different, it seems like it could have been a success given the recent resurgence of Valkyria Chronicles in the West. Lost Odyssey was one of the few games I bought instantly when it was added to back compat after having stored away my 360. It's not until the Series X that I had an Xbox console again. Looking forward to finally booting up Lost Odyssey one day!
I remember playing operation darkness and at that point I had never played an RPG only first person shooter and I'm like this game is crazy and i can turn into a werewolf and shoot rpgs.
Thanks, Matty! I have been thinking about picking up Infinite Undiscovery at my local store and I think you convinced me to finally do it! Also, I have never even heard of Operation Darkness, but I need that game so bad, it looks incredible!
Lost Odyssey was an amazing game. Having Nobuo Uematsu compose the soundtrack was awesome and I still enjoy listening to it today. Remember talking to friends about the game and the emotional memory sequences back in 2009. Would love to see a PC port in the future.
Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, The Last Remnant, and Jade Empire were the main reasons I even got a 360. Fucking gems, the lot of them.
Love it when you have fun with making these vids Matty, good to see you enjoying yourself trying new skits and little jokes out, really brings a vibrancy to the vids that keeps me coming back. Look forward to see you developing it even more
Lost Odyssey was quite fun. It had the ages old problem of the female characters having immense breasts and wearing revealing clothes which was too distracting. Star Ocean 4 frustrated me massively and I lost the plot. The one I never played was Infinite Undiscovery which I did mean to get but never got around to it. This must have been 13 odd years ago but doesn’t feel that long ago
The rock paper scissors element of this game was fleshed out eloquently. I found the controls to be more responsive than many modern titles as well, perhaps my memory is off though. Did you ever find Spartan Total Warrior on xbox original?
I have looked over Lost Odyssey so many times. I just never pulled the trigger! Maybe now I will look into it! Wow, you still have the OG?! haha I still have my 360 but not the OG Arcade. -MrHouseJr
Lost Odyssey - I generally do not like JRPG style of games. I will however give them a chance from time to time and I LOVED Lost Odyssey! I played that thing to death, all of the DLC, all of the time-trials, completed the entire arena. I could not get enough of the game and one problem I have with turn-based rpgs is you make a few menu choices then you can literally tap the same button until the fight is over. Obviously, with the trigger mechanic, Lost Odyssey keeps you interested and attentive of the fight. Hitting that PERFECT is very rewarding. This gave me such a renewed respect for Japanese style games that I would not have given Bayonetta or Last Remnant a chance, had I not played Lost Odyssey. I am in the middle of ME LE (finished 1, almost done with 100% on 2) and I would drop it all if they had a remastered version of Lost Odyssey on Steam, and do it all over again. Even if you do not like RPGS, JRPGS, or turn based combat I would still absolutely, 100% recommend giving it a chance.
I felt that trying to insert discs of games you think are great, but you are randomly not compatible. I was trying to play Kung Fu Chaos and it wasn't compatible :(
Maybe not technically a RPG but it had RPG elements the Naruto games by Ubisoft were fantastic, sadly not backwards compatible. But for anyone who still has a 360 lying around. Naruto rise of a ninja and Naruto Broken Bond were really good games. It honestly surprised me how good they were.
I’m losing my fucking mind right now. I bought Operation Darkness a few years ago, complete in box because I heard about the premise and thought it looked interesting… and it was 5 dollars. And now I know it’s around 80? That is fucking mental.
Man, if only Matty knew how much fantasy WWII inspired anime there were, the poor kid xD (but hearing it's like Valkyria is cool tho, just again, fantasy and WWII anime style shit, not as uncommon as you'd think Matty)
Operation darkness is not a good game. I love janky rpgs, and I played the game at release, not recently. Its really bad. The story is meh at best, and the gameplay is really lackluster. Its definately not worth the price point. If you can find it under 10-15 and you already have a 360 then go for it. But dont seek tje game out
Even tho the Xbox 360 didn’t win the war with the ps3 imo. It’s still one of the greatest consoles of all time. That multiplayer experience was unmatched even though we had to pay for it. Felt like it was very premium even without the ps3 specs.
I've already commented on this video, but I thought it would be an awesome idea for a video if you put together a list of great/underrated games that are locked on the original Xbox and 360.
To think we've made it to the pint where the Xbox 360 can be considered old lol. I grew up with so many games and consoles that are considered old too most.
