Great video! Just a minor detail…if we’re talking about the Greek demigod, wouldn’t he be referred to as Heracles, the Greek name? Not Hercules, the Roman name?😅
The fact that we have estimated 1 percent of ancient greek writing and that 1 percent takes up SO MANY stories already.... I know we wont find it all but I do hope some day we find more because it just amazes me what stories we have no idea have occured, gods unknown, and events forgotten.
@@Yazzieeee Right? I just think of all the stories that have come from Greek mythos. A lot if stories written today take inspiration for these stories, just imagine what else could be written or created if we had even 10 percent of these. stories
@@chuazhiqianwrss4379 oh! My mistake I misheard him haha that does make more sense. I still feel the same way as my original comment, now expanded across the globe :)
Why is he even considered a twin and not just a brother from another father? Even if the Zeus looked like Amphitryon at the time, they're still different beings.
@@ViApp0 because they are both sons of the mother and gestated in her womb at the same time. That still makes them twins. In extremely rare cases it actually happens where a woman gets pregnant with 2 children from 2 different fathers at the same time. Those kids are still twins. Maybe you're confusing fraternal twins and identical twins.
Gotta say, thank you for bringing this guy into the spotlight cos apparently nobody knew about him. I just assumed he went on to be king and live a long prosperous life ya know...away from Heracles who's entire life was just TERRIBLE
It’s Ironic that Iphicles gets Heroic Sacrifices whereas his twin brother gets prayed to Curse people for passing through a certain town after he becomes a God.
Luigi went through THREE haunted buildings in total. Both filled with unholy demonic spirits and god knows what. And WHY did he do all of this? To save his brother. *Now shut your mouth and stop dissing my boy Luigi.* (Edit: quick thing I forgot to add, in the 3rd game he’s trying to save his brother, Mario, and his friends. So Luigi faces dangers and terrifying things to not just save his brother, but also others as well. He may be scared out of his mind at first, but that’s okay since he doesn’t know what he’s gonna be up against, yet he still musters up the courage and treks onward. Now THAT is what heroes do, they brave through things they fear to save others.)
Wow, my mom and I are both huge greek mythology fans, because my grand-father taught ancient greek and told us myths as good night story. We both weren‘t aware that Hercules has a twin brother, though. While I‘d never tell this to my brother‘s face, I always envied how easy his life was. His healthy, smart, good-looking, very fit and has lots of friends. All seems to come so easy to him, whilst I inherited everything bad: I have a lot of health problem, struggle with depression and just can‘t manage anything at the moment. Sometimes it‘s really hard not to get jealous. Especially if my brother is annoyed because of my health issues and claims I‘m faking them (which I clear don‘t and would never do).
No, I was the overshadower. To make it worse, I was the youngest. My sister was absolutely vicious & extremely violent to me. It sucked because our mom let her get away with everything (including trying to kill me 3x) because she didn't want to deal with her. It wasn't even like I had any special treatment or anything. It took YEARS before me & my sister could stand being around each other.
Felt that, pretty sure I was one too without knowing, now mind you my sister didn't try and kill me, but she did hurt me, were only just now getting along
@@lisapop5219 i guess I got lucky to do it when I did, im 16 and shes 18 now, it only really started building when ironically she broke our toilet because of some friend drama she had lol, I got a cut and small scar from it, and I keep saying its the scar of healing
Its been more than 2 weeks since hurricane Fiona passed through puerto rico, i still have no electricity at home and probably wont for another week but i was finally able to come down to a local Burger king and i finally have some wifi!! Lord its good to hear a Messed up origins !!
God bless you and yours! I'm glad you are safe and it sounds like (because of your text)you are in good spirits 😊I love messed up origins too. Take care!
I find it sad how so many ancient Greek tales have so few happy ending or any happiness in the tales at all. Even deals made to make others happy tends to go horriblely wrong. Speaking of deals what deal did Nyx make with here niece Selene to allow the Moon to but out at night?
3:00 now I know why my middle school history teacher said "I'm glad this class is too tired to pay attention, since this is just annoying to try to say as I am teaching so we can all just take a short nap and just vote that this leson is over" and my class did vote for a nap since we did skip this lesson about the relationships of zeus but when it came to learning about how hercules was born and how that became a problem to describe that, it was just an easy thing for some history and geography teachers to avoid, I never learned of thnis till now so thanks Jon Solo, now
I grew up write and watch every movie and tv about Heracles and all my life I never knew once that he had a brother wow you learn something new on Jon Solo channel keep it up man and see that Iphicles died in battle, I wonder when Heracles went to Olympics the first thing he did probably would be, he went to the underworld to see his brother and to apology for his death
Hi. I am a long time fan and self identify as a part of the solo fam. I love your videos. The way you tell these stories is just remarkable, you are also so funny.
Do a part two of the Percy jackson and the Olympians series by covering the messed up origins/production of the Percy jackson: sea of monsters please?!
I know they named Heracles to appease Hera, but if they didn't know which one was Zeus's child, then did they just name their kids at random? Or did they name them after the snake incident? Did kids in ancient Greece not get a name until they were older because of infant mortality?
Fun fact: depending on the version Heracles’s was given his name at different points in his life! Apollodorus said he changed it from Alcaeus to Heracles after killing his children and visiting the seer to learn how to atone for his crime, but other tellings say it happened after Alcmene abandoned him as a baby and he was briefly taken in by Hera who didn’t know he was Zeus’s bastard babe.
Well, at least Perseus and Andromeda aren't related by blood. Although, Andromeda was almost arranged to be married to her uncle Phineus, before Cetus came along.
A woman can have twins from two different men (it is extremely rare), but she must sleep with both men within a 1 to 5 day period of each other (max). So, we do have a (rough) idea of when she slept with her actual husband.
I've never heard any myths about his twin. Aside from their birth. But I do have a great aunt a great great uncle who married. And after 5 years found out the were uncle and niece.
I think if I was to lose a fight I would imbelish the story a bit too. There were 2 of them but they moved as one! They were the strongest and fastest, the most skilled of all their generation. And they were demi gods too. That's why they were able to (barely) defeat me
My take on deities keeping it in the family is that they don't have DNA like mortals and breeding with each other would be natural for them because that's how the universe got all its complexity. The gods of earth and sky had those of the moon, light, rivers, etc. The oceanic god of wonder and a cloud nymph had the guides of rainbows. I don't know exactly what that means for demigods, but it's definitely better than if he was her uncle on her mother's side 😬
Rewatching this for who knows what time, and I realized I never commented this when it originally came out: thank you for clarifying the tree, because Zeus makes it impossible to understand it 99% of the time.
Wow I didn't know that much about Iphicles but I heard about him in a game I used to play and still play now was Glory of Heracles that was for the DS. While through out the game you didn't know the Heracles that was with you was actually Iphicles he still had a big role in the game. I highly recommend you play it.
Hi..Jon. You are right. Greek Mythology is always AWESOME. Your explanation is well presented. But Which ones do you think the best one of the tons of Greek Myth stories? Thanks
Just to add some cool detal. Its said Zeus bribed Helios to stop sun from raising, making night 3 times longer, so he could do the did longer. Apparently she was that hot he even stopped sun for her.
Thank you for your videos. If nothing else, it sends people to the original source material. In actuality, your videos are interesting in a vernacular summary. Good work
