As a Black man that has been playing the violin since the age of six I am up lifted filled with dignity & pride and so proud that God gave me the gift of having the opportunity to play the violin even when everyone around me bashed me for it. It fills my spirit with joy to see stories like this in a world where a man like me is profiled and looked at as not good enough, envied, and hated for being who I am in my own skin. The more I grow the more I understand who I am and who I come from. True creators , inventors, healers, masters of any craft we get our hands on. Know who you are and become the best version of self. Believe in your self . You can do anything you put your mind too even when all odds are stack against you because you are the true aboriginal. Amen
Keep on believing in your God given talents & abilities. Continue to pursue excellence and never forget who you are and the strong lineage that you come from! We are descendants of greatness….. they hate us because WE are the CREATORS! May God’s favour be upon you always…. give thanks and honor ALWAYS. Peace and blessings……
Amen brother I’m also a black male I’m not really a musician but i can dance and act and I’m a really good artist and I also have a disability I’m on the spectrum 😉🙏🏿👍❤️
I'm a black musician, I play classical music, metal music, and orchestral music. I've been playing keyboard and Piano for 15 years, and I've been playing electric guitar for 6 years. However, I am not a music teacher 🙂
First off, let me thank the content creators at Royalty Now for sharing this amazing piece of history. I find it extremely hurtful as a black man in today's society for not learning about this information while I was in college. While in college, my major was classical music, and I never was taught this. Sad.
Yes, it is sad, and it makes us wonder how many more remarkable people are in our human history that we never got to hear about..... Someone should start a show, do a movie, a blog about "the ones we never knew"! Wouldn't that be exciting?!
@@garyneilson3075I'm sure there are many heros and notable people of all races that didnt make it into the pages of history..but I appreciate them for bringing Josephs life to to us. Talented beyond measure for sure!
I am a history buff and I am ashamed I did not know of this extraordinary man. Thank you for the opportunity to learn of him. He truly was larger than life.
He was even larger than larger than life. He had many many obstacles and beat them all. But have to sat the French were somewhat ahead of their time and so was his dad. So glad I learned about him. And to be admired by Mozart says something about his musical skill as well
Thank you! I never heard of Joseph Bologne in my 60+ years. A lot of our history has been kept from us. Black history is not just black history, but it is our history.
Lol I started listening to classical music THIS year and learned about him on my own easily. I'm 30 by the way. How did you not hear about him in 60 years?
@@Tomiply If you were not studying CLASSICAL music it's VERY unlikely to have heard of him! He should be world renown having been called The Black Mozart.
Let’s give credit to J. A. Rogers, the self taught Jamaican-American historian who presented the biographic information about the Chevalier to the English speaking world in the 1950’s. There is a beautiful biopic about him here on RU-vid. France officially recognised him in the typically condescending manner by calling him the “Black Mozart” while in reality he inspired& sponsored Mozart as nicely stated in this video - thx a lot
Thank-you for remembering J.A. Rogers... AS A 9 YEAR OLD I read 💯AMAZING FACTS ABOUT NEGROES...and my life has never been the same.... i know a lie when i hear one
Yea. I agree that Mozart should be called the white Bolonge. Even the title of the video irks me. If we are going to recognize BIPOC we need to stop putting their white contemporaries first.
This one was particularly emotional for me. Seeing a person of color , having his story told and backed by historical record is very moving. And that we both happen to be musician’s of color is also not lost to me either.
As a blk man I enjoyed a walk in history of a famous blk Frenchman. He died at a young age. I think the video was very unbiased. I also liked the recreation of his picture of how he would have looked today.
I am a big black rugged guy with broad shoulders, but this story of such a man, Joseph Bologne, brought tears to my eyes. What a struggle and triumph in life that we will never know the true nature of. This was a magnificent piece of Black History history that many of us were denied in our schools and goes to show you how weak some were/are... though not all. Let us learn more of this 'lost' history and learn to understand each other... Truthfully. This was a truly well presented piece. Thank you.
I thought I was crazy. I'm a Puerto Rican guy but by the end of the movie I was deeply moved to the point of tears. Bologne was a champion. A man that all men should aspire to be like
He never had a struggle. He was sellish and with extremely rich white dad. He’d dated with married woman what everything got clear he’d a duel with her husband. Look he wasn’t that “ innocent”…BTW he’s not part of black history. He was french and son of white rich french musician. This’s part of French history.
He probably only "dated" because it was not considered acceptable for a white woman to marry a man who wasn't white. He couldn't even inherit his father's because he was mixed. He is very much so part of black history. Growing up in a specific place doesn't negate your heritage@@West-Telecom
This the first time that I have ever heard of Joseph Bologne. What a remarkable and gifted man he was, and just look at what he achieved for his time. Thank you for bringing him to life, not only visually but for sharing his incredible life's story. He should not have been all but forgotten, his contributions deserve recognition and his mark on history acknowledged. Well done!
First of all excellent excellent excellent video audio and blend of music. Im 42 black male i love history i dont know how i missed him. Thx for the history lesson keep teaching.
@@RoyaltyNowStudios Although Bologne's story is great and should be told there is a lot of damaging myth building in the process. Mozart and Bologne never lived under the same roof. This is a myth that George Banat has wirten in his biography but it is false. Mozart lived with Baron Grimm and his partner Madame d' Epinay. The house at rue de chausée d'antin no. 5 actually belonged to her, not to Grimm. Bologne was living in the same street but further up north in the hôtel de Montesson OR the Pavillion d'Orleans. But certainly not at hôtel d'Epinay. The historic revisionism around Bologne's status and myth building is doing a lot of dammage to the truth. Too bad this video is partaking in it.
There are many individuals that history never talks about or deliberately hides from the public. This guy should’ve had a movie made about him loooong ago.
My First Time too, I Had Never Heard Of Joseph Bologne , until now. He Was Truly A Great Figure In History And Should Have Went Down In History In America And The World For That Matter. It’s Still Amazing To Me How One’s Color Can Made Great Individuals Like Mr Bologne DisAppear From History. I Should Have Heard About This Invdividual in Elementary School.
So sad that somebody with such an amazing story has been lost in history, he deserves for his story to live on. How can somebody like him be forgotten? Thank you for keeping his story alive and educating us.
In the US, you wouldnt be able to teach the history accurately about him, because they would call it "Critical Race Theory" and then try to discredit it all.
I am shocked that I’ve never heard of this exceptionally talented man, it was only because a trailer of the new movie just popped up. It’s a shame he was not celebrated more, but I’m very glad that Hollywood has now come on board, so that more people will learn of this great man.
Oh My God! St. George was the teacher of Tomas Alexander Dumas Who's son wrote Count of Monte Christo,Three Musketeers.I read that St. George was master Swordsman but I didn't know that He had so many talents.True legend 🙌
There are a lot of parallels between the Chevalier and Alexander Dumas' lives! France at this time was a criminally underrated era of Black history. It's a favorite of mine to study❤
It's confusing... Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, father of Alexandre Dumas pere and grandfather of Alexandre Dumas fils, was half-black, born to a French nobleman and an Afro-Haitian slave, and rose to become one of Napoleon's top generals. Dumas pere was author of dozens of books including the 3 Musketeers, and his mother was probably French. It's a fascinating history, well worth a spin down a wikipedia rabbit-hole.
I had never heard of this immensely talented man until seeing the trailer for the film, " Chevalier" that is set to be released in April 2023. So I was intrigued to get to learn more about him. What an incredible life Joseph Bologne led! It is frustrating to have to deal with those whose own insecurities lead them to discount the accomplishments of Black people. Yet SO satisfying when they are proven wrong! I enjoy these videos and recreations of what these historical figures looked like. Thank you!
Finally Hollywood has a good story to tell and I hope they do it justice. It sounds a lot better than the mediocre black films they've been producing for the last decade.
I hope Hollywood or whoever is doing this movie bring it raw and real ! Please do not mess this movie up ! I’m tired of black stories being whitewashed or falsely told.
Exactly Hollywood needs to stop making same boring movies when it comes to African people, they only seem to do movies about African Americans during the Civil War or the Civil Rights movement ignoring African history from other countries and other people of African descent. By the way Joseph’s father George was a really good father, especially for that time period, because most illegitimate children were ignored.
As a musician and martial artist of color, this made my heart sing with pride. It just goes to show, that with fortitude, honor and dignity you can reach any height, despite those who would stand against you. Thank you Chevalier. ❤🙏🏾
He didn't reach any height. He was the obvious choice for director of the Paris Opera, remember. But he didn't get the assignment BECAUSE of the color of his skin. He had heaps more fortitude, honor and dignity than anyone surrounding him. He was a great man and reached many haights, but not ANY height.
I am 50yrs old and a retired teacher of 30yrs, I just discovered this WONDERFUL artist/musician. I am forever stunned, angered and depressed by how much knowledge and information has been consciously BANNED/CENSORED/IGNORED/DISREGARDED because of inherent bigotry, ignorance and hatred that STILL RULES the World in 2023.
Joseph Bologne’s work was not that good. I like it myself, but he is no Mozart…...please. He was not banned as you say because his White father put him into positions. Yes, Joseph Bologne was privileged.
As a biracial man myself, this video really touched me. How sad that for my entire life I never knew this amazing man existed. This was never taught in schools and I've never seen it on the History channel.
Depends on the school. In France he is not famous but well known. I'm from Guadeloupe myself and I've always heard about "le chevalier de Saint-Georges".
@@lydieparmas357 Your missing the point, he is not known around the world the way his peer Mozart is known. Mozart is taught in music appreciation class. He is taught in history class. His name is one of the two most referred to names for people, around the globe, that don’t even know anything about classical music (Beethoven is the other). In effect he has been erased from the collective imagination.
@Ethan Elston Well, that was valid. Not to be rude but to t*hrow out "as a biracial man" dismisses why the book was written and dismissive of the dark skin, People of color who would learn and love to know about this man!
I’m French-American, a composer and music producer living in the US, and fiercely progressive politically and socially. This video was so moving and beautiful, I found myself in tears multiple times. Thank you for this gorgeous bit of important history. And yes, the Reign of Terror was horrible, and we still speak about it with a shudder.
I am so glad that you covered him! I am a Music Teacher who is a history buff too. I love teaching my students about the composers. He is one that I have covered several times with the kids. I love how this is a short enough video to keep their attention! Thank you for the beautiful pictures, and recreation of him at the end! The kids loved it!
Do you call him black or biracial? Do you minimize his French half and the influence of the French culture on his life? I’m not trolling. I’m honestly curious.
Only God can judge all of us out there for a particular reason out there. In the 21St Century some people will survive this Qandeous situation my dear people.
I was also thinking today (before I came upon this wonderful video) how so many of us are not consistent in our endeavors. He had talent, yes, but he expanded on his talent by being consistent; always improving. He's a lesson for those of us who procrastinate. Talent is useless unless it's used.
I am a musician and consider myself a bit of a history buff, but I had never heard of this remarkable man until just now, after watching this video. I definitely want to learn more about him.
It was well done and showed that Caribbean plantation owners did in fact treated and educated their mixed children . The french lifestyle influenced dance and created a new afrofrenchcentric culture.
They were banned by Napoleon when he became emperor. It wasn't banned until the 90s, but it was forgotten due to the ban. A lot also got destroyed@@dondemarco9092

Your renderings of Joseph Bologne are simply breathtaking, especially the one of him fully smiling (with beautiful teeth). I loved the entire storytelling and am so glad to have stumbled upon this important person in history. Of course, we never get this type of history in American education, public or private schools. Thank you so much.
@@totallysxmmyyt6787 You think so? I wasn't able to enjoy it since I know Bologne's biography. Instead of concentrating on his accomplishments and merits, they went for an extremely unhistorical plot, full of intrigue and sensationalism. 😐
Wow the recreations made me scream with joy and delight. He was magnificent. The musical side of him was sooooooo much more than portrayed in this video. He created music that is technically so difficult that today's best musicians considered his music some of the hardest music to play to date. Check him out. He was so BAD!.....Thanks
This man should be in the history book NOW!! HOW MANY OTHER BLACK PEOPLE THEY HAVE HIDDEN FROM US! WHAT A Magnificent story! His life story is like a movie!
What about Gossec, Gretry, Gaviniès, Stamitz, Baudron, Boccherini, etc. etc.? These and much much more all played a role in Paris concert life at the time. There are so many composers to choose from. Bologne's contributions are not that innovative, the sinfonia concertante was being developed way before him. Music should be about the notes, not about skin color.
I experienced a range of emotions watching this...from pride to sadness and back to pride again. Like so many, I had never heard of him until recently. I will happily and proudly do more research on him and share with others. Thank you very much.
@@lauranitakatende5830 I concur, I am amazed with the timing of this channel and the arrival of Chevalier to the big screen. Chevalier in the movie stated he would be remembered what a prophesy and here we are discussing his contributions. Just awesome
Absolutely mind-blowing. I have never heard of this gentleman. This must indeed be what William Cullen Bryant meant when he said, "Truth crushed to earth shall one day rise again."
First you guys wowed me with recreations. Now you guys wow me with intricate and marvelous storytelling. Thank you for introducing me to Joseph Bologne. Everyone should be a little more like him.

What a beautiful true story. I'm 58 years old and I was not talught this in school. Thank you Royalty Now Studios for the beautiful work put into creating this piece of history. Absolutely wonderful!
The morphing into a smile caused my eyes to water, it's as if his soul came through the media for a moment to say thank you. I never heard of him, but as a practitioner of Filipino Martial Arts sword play, I am impressed. Well done, bravo!
Exactly! ❤ I saw myself and my son in him. It was powerful. Much credit and applause to the artist who recreated his likeness. She is amazingly talented as well. Bravura! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I am so impressed and amazed at your delivery of this man's remarkable legacy. I studied opera and have performed many pieces by Mozart, and had heard of Chevalier de Saint-Georges many times throughout my matriculation, yet I never had the pleasure of learning any pieces composed by him. I was interested in learning more about him, but could never find suitable resources. This documentary was quite enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you so much!
I literally just got finished watching Chevalier and reading about Joseph’s life. What an extraordinary man. Then I happened to come across this, it’s so beautiful. And then to see him smile, It truly bought tears to my eyes. Thank you ❤
I attended a concert a few months ago in Berwick upon Tweed, where some of his work was performed. He is not forgotten. At all. Brilliant work and wonderful performance by Northern Symphonic.
Why doesn't somebody write a book about this man? His life would make a wonderful TV series. I found myself crying about his misfortunes. I wish I could have seen him in person. Also, another person nobody ever mentions is George Bridgetower, a contemporary of Ludwig Von Beethoven and a violin prodigy.
Heartbroken and embarrassed I never heard of him. The systemic omission from public school history book-particularly in the African-descent community-is beyond sickening. Thank you for sharing.
In Florida, our children would certainly never have heard his story, thanks to Ron's bizarre champagne to kill "Woke" in our state, but good luck keeping people from watching this man's life story on the silver screen. "Truth wills out!!!"🤫

Thank you for sharing his story. I never heard of him. I would have missed the movie coming out about him because I did not know his story. The modern artists renderings are on point.
Thank you so much for introducing me to this wonderful man and a piece of history I knew nothing about. I scored well on a academic test that won me a spot in the newly created music department at my elementary school. That first year, they chose the violin. I wanted to learn how to play the flute, and I told my teacher to give my spot to someone else. My Mom heard about it, and when I got home, my Mother set me straight on a few things, and I learned how blessed I was. I was a little black girl, and my Father was in the army. My violin case was taped with green army tape as we didn't have much. Although I didn't have the best, I carried my violin case, because I knew it was what was inside the case and me that would help me to contend with the heckling. I so appreciated that lesson, and today I still love the violin and all string instruments, and adore classical music. If we are given a chance, our light can illuminate the world. All children have a gift. I am so thankful for this history about a Black Knight who was a brilliant man of stature and musical prodigy, and he played my favorite instrument. I will pass his story on to the children I mentor today. Didn't mean to write so much, but this inspired me. Thank you for this spark of light. Your transitional modern day impressions are superb, he was so handsome. Say his name; Chevalier "Joseph" Saint George, Blessings. ❤🎼🎻
Cee Mac, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story! I love music as well, though I can't play an instrument! 😔 I am honored and truly inspired!

Joseph Bologne was an incredibly dynamic individual it’s a shame that he’s not given the recognition that he deserves. Icons like him have movies made about them but there are people that want to make him irrelevant due to his complexion
I've often looked at old pictures of people and wondered what that person would look like today. I never thought I'd actually see it done. Great job on the video and modern portrait!
this was the most surprising and beautiful historical story I heard in months! Why is his life not more famous? He was stunningly beautiful and your recreation is too! Very correct facial features. While others do change the faces or shapes a little bit or much, you stick to the original. Very good work! 😊👍🏼

First of all, thank you for this amazing story. Unfortunately, these stories are not lost in history, They are hidden in history. I think it was more than dealings with Mozart. I don’t believe in coincidences, like it just so happens when Mozart and Joseph was living in the same house Mozart did his best music.
@@tracymorgan5386 Yes, I am proud that Joseph Bologne was from the French speaking part of the Caribbean. I am also from the Caribbean, the Bahamas. Something told me to watch this bc my mom was French and she talked about him. I never knew his history though. Your story compels me knowing that regular people without status or money, when driven intrinsically, can and do make a difference in the world. Thank you for that.
Several friends and I recently attended his opera, "The Anonymous Lover", presented by the Minnesota Opera. It was such a fun, colorful, musical "romp." What sold me on choosing that option (among other more well-known presentations) was the fact that Bologne was a contemporary of Mozart. Now I am grateful to know so much wonderful information about him on his own terms. Thank you for this "backstory" about an amazingly talented man.
WOW just WOW... for the amazing history told here. As an artist, as I listened, I was immediately inspired to create a portrait of him. That's why at the end, I was so delighted by the portraits ...modernizing him and attributing the dignity that was so well deserved to this iconic figure. Despite the injustices and indignation he endured from humanity, there was favor on his life by the most high God, who gave him a good father, plenty of talents, and bravery. I loved watching how God kept sending people who helped him shine. Loved this history lesson... thanks for helping Joseph Bologne find his proper place in history.
I've enjoyed watching your channel for some time now, BUT this story, the information about Joseph Bologne, and his life was such a pleasure to learn about, as many others, but this particular story about this incredible man, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
As a multiethnic person myself, this was heartbreaking. Knowing that someone so talented was ultimately denied the ability to show their support for a country that didn’t truly accept them. So many years have passed, and the world has not changed very much. 😢
@@chigozienwaigbo9408 i detest those who think that being non-White is the only way to be any type of "ethnic"...as if Europeans are one congruent mass...there are significant differences between the Slavics, Nords, Latins, Germanic, Sami, Anglo, etc. Little Europe has more genetic differences than most of Africa.
@@IdaHo-v8y "Little Europe has more genetic difference than most of Africa" - Really?😂 What do you mean? And are you basing this on science or your own perception?
@@hazhoner5727exactly! All these clowns calling him black 😂 Since when combining white and black, you get black as your end result? Like go ahead and mix black and white paint and you will never get black paint as a result. Common sense is unknown to those fools!
@@julia.mcconnell, You are being disingenuous. Don't act like society didn't look at mulattos as black regardless of the fact that they were 1/2 white. Joseph Bologna was still looked down upon for being of mixed race and would have been accepted completely had it not been for the black in him. Barack Obama is half white, yet at the end of the day is looked at as black and historically considered the first black US President.
