Listening to this it makes me feel that the reason Kahler didn't "win" was less about the licensing itself and more about not getting on enough instruments for people to know how they work properly. The rarity led to people setting them up incorrectly and then believing they were bad.

Hey guys, I appreciate the response to my question a few episodes back about the auto latch. I know you are working on an install video but I am impatient and handy with a Dremel router so I routed the back cavity of my LTD M-1000 Koa a bit and fitted the Steeler Pro in nicely. I have more than enough room to really go to town on the bar but it definitely was a little trial and error. I also realized that this guitar had a slanted spring cavity so I had to dice up some angled neck shims to get the indexer to sit at the right height to not interfere with the bridge and also allow me to pull the bar back at extreme angles. I'll post a pic to Instagram eventually and tag Kahler. All of this is to say to everyone else waiting on the install video, the Steeler Pro with an auto latch is well worth the effort and is definitely the ultimate addition I could have added to my best playing guitar.

Nice work guys. Wealth of valuable information here. BTW, one of the things our customers love most about the Kahler locking nut is that it eliminates the need for a string retainer behind it. Also, recently one of our loyal customers asked us to install stainless steel frets and a Kahler Steeler with auto-latch on his brand new EVH guitar. After he played it for a couple weeks he called and implored us to order two more Steelers with auto-latches for other instruments. The new Steeler bridge, auto-latch and locking nut are really something special. There is a short video on our page showing the finished guitar.

It's a long, but fascinating watch. I'll have to digest it in chunks but ultimately, a great story.

I am apparently in the minority but I don't understand why people complain that the Kahler is so smooth and does not have as much resistance as a Floyd. Why does anyone want it to be harder to move and therefore less control? I much much prefer the light and smooth touch of the Kahler.

great videos, and really happy to see the boom in terms of internet presence Kahler is getting now! Forgive me if this was answered in a previous video (I've tried to watch everything but things like work and vacation has gotten in the way), but have you ever addressed if changing the springs to heavy, using the heavy bar etc brings the kahler closer to a FR/fulcrum bridge in terms of tuning stability? Or if that helps mitigate the need to depress the bar after large bends?
@Metalcop5150
@Metalcop5150 Месяц назад
Couple of points that I disagreed with: the TWO single most important factors to your sound are 1) your amp and 2) your pickups, in that order. You can argue all day about tone woods and fretboard woods and bridges, but your amp and pickups are what makes your tone. The second point: The “sexiness” of the guitar is equal parts; body shape, headstock, pickups AND bridge. I see a non-recessed Floyd and that is a beautiful, sexy thing. Floyd absolutely crushes the Kahler in the looks Dept. if that even matters. Lol

You guys mentioned the pre-soldered strings being discontinued. This is likely because D’Addario introduced the NYXL strings with their “fusion twist” technology. If you look at the windings on the plain strings from an NYXL set, you can see there’s some type of filler in there. Maybe not solder exactly, but something to keep the windings stable. Their tuning stability test video even uses a 2300! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ai8M00bOP-I.html I have 3 Kahler 2300/7300 guitars, and the NYXL strings keep stable tuning on all of them no matter what I put them through. Lastly, their XS coated strings also advertise that they use the fusion twist technology, and SIT strings out of Akron, OH has been dipping the ball end and windings in super glue for decades as their tuning stability trick. No one should need to solder windings in 2024

Question: Why was the appearance of the 2300 changed from the more square-ish to this one now? Was it purely aesthetic or for more comfort? Love the podcast!

Didn't EVH also have licensed Floyds on the Ernie Ball and Peaveys? I thought Ping made the Peavey stuff and possibly the Ernie Ball stuff too? We need money, sure, but o simply desire money above anything else is not the way. As far as parts, I don't think 20 years ago or pre-internet sales, I saw any parts for Floyd anywhere. Eddie, please do a replacing the Floyd locking nut with the Kahler locking nut video.

I have a 1986 Charvel model 4 with a Kahler 2300. I recently purchased the heavy bar for it, but it seems like the threads on the bar are a little too large to thread into the tremolo unit. Is there a fix to this?
