I loved Captain Kangaroo! I had a Capt Kangaroo coloring book that I cherished until my teen years! I also remember finding out about his show's racial controversy after his death.
@@patgalvez4563 There's always controversy when it's something all white. You can't have anything all white in America that's why we've made diversity top priority.
Captain Kangaroo, Bob Ross, and Mr. Rogers were a big part of my childhood. Too bad they don't make shows like them anymore. Children today could use shows like them.
We also watched Garfield Goose with Frazier Thomas and Bozo's Circus. Also watch Ray Rayner Show and his other show, Rocket to Adventure. Don't know if these shows were nationwide but they were the shows to watch in Chicago area.
What about Pee Wee’s Playhouse? The man who star Pee Wee’s Playhouse recently passed away well a Canadian could play Pee Wee Herman, a Colombian could play the Genie Jambi and Will Smith as Cowboy Curtis. To set up the New Pee Wee’s Playhouse. Jim Carrey as Pee Wee Herman John Leguizamo as Jambi Will Smith as Cowboy Curtis
@@Embargoman I think Pee Wees Playhouse took on a whole new meaning aftet the movie theater incident. I think that ruined it for TV and prob most people.
I totally agree. I got my appendix removed in 1971. In those days that meant a week in the hospital and about 3 weeks at home recovering. I watched The Captain and The Electric Company on PBS. Morgan Freeman starred on this show. Great memories, even though I was recovering from the surgery. Oh did I mention the surgery was performed with a rusty, dull butter knife😂😂
Same here! Mr. Rodgers too. His hair and his sideburns freaked me out a tad though..lol...thinking back now, he could've laid off of the hoho's..lol. but, isn't it sad how kids now have nothing positive to watch and learn from? It's all violence and rap music crap! Sad!
Mr. Green Jeans, Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, Grandfather Clock and the Captain. Learned how to tell time and to tie my shoes watching that show in black and white back in the 50’s. Loved story time when he read a book to everyone and loved all the positive values he taught us. This country could use a dose of the Captain.
I went to go meet him when he was doing an appearance at a science themed toy store opening. I was maybe 20 at the time and was so nervous I couldn't talk to him, didn't ask for an autograph and turned down a photo opportunity. I have met a lot of famous people in my many years on this planet and this is the only time I've ever locked up out of pure shock of seeing him
One of the most underappreciated shows of all time. Captain Kangeroo never gets the rerun treatment it deserve except for one 1976 episode that is currently available on You Tube. The other 1000 or so episodes is, well, still on the waiting list.
I grew up with the Captain. I looked forward to the first show for the month of March because the Captain would have my birthday cake on that day. It was wonderful TV and I'm glad it was all happy and calm. My childhood wasn't all sunshine but watching Captain Kangaroo was.
I watched captain kangaroo,. He suttely taught good values, self esteem to young children, just like early romperroom, that taught young kids, patience, turn taking, sharing, putting toys back when your done. Loved both shows.
I remember all of the shows you mention, except Capt Kangaroo. I have seen things like this video or old commercials, but I have no memory of the actual show.
I adored both Captain Kangaroo and Mister Rogers. They are some of my earliest memories. Good Morning Captain! Oh, how I wish I could go back to the 60s.....
The Captain holds a special, place in my heart, because he was from my hometown. And is buried there. I always grew up thinking he still lived around the corner. And child me loved that.
thank you so much for this. 💕 being born in 1965, i grew up on captain kangaroo, sesame street and the electric company, with an occasional mr. rogers thrown in. these shows taught me so much about life, and i don't just mean numbers and letters. 🤗 a good part of what's wrong today is the lack of access to these types of shows. yes, sesame street is still on, and still doing an exceptional job of educating young people, but it's missed by generations in daycare who never see it. 😞
Schwinn bikes were absolutely the best in the day. Loved my 3 speed red racer that I had for years. The Schwinn banana seat high handle bar bikes were iconic.
When I was a kid I met Captain Kangaroo when I went to the Rialto Theater, he stopped and took the time to talk to me he was so nice I had a really nice experience meeting him !
I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo. What happened to TV shows today? He was right…watching violent shows turns to real life. The man was ahead of his time.
Being in my 60s, I watched Cap'n Kangaroo in b/w. I remember having a green plastic CK cup in the bathroom to use when I brushed my teeth. Mr. Moose was probably my favorite character on his show.
They should make a movie about this ! Like the makers who made Mr. Rodgers. Behind the scenes the real story the dark side of it since we are all adults growing up watching his shows.
I watched Captain Kangaroo almost every morning from 1963 to 1975! I learned how to tie my shoes in 1964 from a segment he did with Bunny Rabbit! It was so well done and easy!
Loved Captain Kangaroo. He taught me how to tie my shoes. Mr. Green Jeans and the Grandfather Clock taught me the basics of reading the clock face. I was very very young maybe close to 4 years old. My mother told me years later she was shocked the first time she realized I learned these things at an early age from Captain Kangaroo. Not all tv was bad, but I hate clowns because Bozo was creepy 😂
I am old so only remember him in black and white. I still have a few of the books he read. Everyone kid in my family born after me got a copy of Mr Willowby’s Chritmas Tree for Christmas
I watched him to learn how to speak English. As a little girl coming to America I only knew German. My mother would always put him on so I could see and hear American speech.
While you were watching Kaptain Kangaroo to learn English, I was watching Kaptain Kangaroo, and trying to learn German from my grandmother, who was a native speaker of the German dialect known as Pennsylvania Dutch.
I loved him so much mr green jeans mr moose. Rabbit scared me a bit but at 55 years old I’ve finely overcome the worry about rabbits compulsion to steal carrots. ❤
I remember watching the original show in the early weekday mornings and loved the original Treasure House more! It also frustrated me as a small child that the new barn wasn't "finished" all the way! Haha!
I sat at the kitchen table eating toast with honey, watching...I can almost remember the theme music and getting ready for my first day of Kindergarten.
Mr. Keeshan was on the board of Good Samaritan hospital in West Islip, NY, where I grew up. He lived one town over. My aunt, who was a nurse at Good Sam, got me a personally autographed picture of him which I cherished for years. He was a genuinely good man.
Living in Australia the first reference I heard of "Captain Kangaroo" was in the Statler Brother's song "Flowers on the Wall". Kangaroos are native to Australia so I thought the show was an Australian based show but only shown in the USA. This video is the first I've seen which explained the show. Thanks.
I remember watching in the 60s. I remember that catchy theme song and the keys. Also the regular characters. But I can't remember a single episode. Nothing has stuck but the visuals. No matter what my age, I always considered it for younger children.
As a kid I watched Capt. Kangaroo and The Howdy Doody Show with Buffalo Bob, Princess Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Clarabelle the Clown. I did not know that Bob Kesshan played both the clown and the captain. Not a bad memory for a man that can't find where he set his own glasses!
God bless him. And who says ? All U.S. Marines are mean huh? Mr. Keeshan was a great gentleman and had a heart of gold. I was born in 1957 and as early as i can remember? The Captain was a part of my daily life. What a great great man and show. Thank you for sharing this. And thank you Captain Kangaroo for a great childhood show.
Captain Kangaroo and Mister Rogers were both outstanding TV shows and role models for children and I'm blessed that they were both part of my young childhood.
I grew up with a black and white tv in the 70’ and yet knew the captain had a red jacket somehow. I find it super weird that he was between 43 and 47 when i watched his show
I loved captain kangaroo I used to watch it before school in 80-81. Started junior high and couldn't watch it anymore. Preferred Capt to mister Rogers.
I grew up in upstate NY watching Captain Kangaroo. I guess it was actually filmed somewhat nearby. Anyway, as a kid, I absolutely loved it. What a relief it was! Wish the kids had something like this today to hang their hats on. Now, they are told they are intrinsically evil and transgender, instead. Not too much pressure, huh? Just sickening and angering!
