To add a personal observation about Bob Seger. In the mid to late 80s my daughter dated a guy who managed one of the local clubs in the Detroit area. Actually close to Royal Oak, his home turf. She ended up being at the club a lot and Seger was a regular patron. She was always impressed by his quiet unassuming ways. He came in with the attitude of a regular guest, no fan fare, no real entourage, just a regular guy. (And in that area he could have received a standing ovation any time it became known who he was) but he wanted none of that. However, what he did ALWAYS do was leave his waitress $100 tips and then went quietly on his way. My daughter's opinion of him was not only a genuinely nice man but a gentleman in the best sense of what that means.
I had the opportunity to meet him in the early 70s. He was between sets. We were sitting at a table in front. He came over and sat down at out table. He was quiet spoken, and very personable. We drank a beer together. I told him he had an Amazing sound, and I liked his music,to which he laughed and said thank you, that makes three!! He was still on the rise back then, but I knew he would make it! It was in 74 at bar in Dallas Tx. Great night.
I first met Bob in the early 60's when he was working with Doug Brown - as mentioned a friendly, decent and unassuming fella with a love for music. I ran into him, perhaps a dozen times since, and always found him to be pretty much the "same guy" - this, despite his having acquired fame & fortune. Unfortunately, and due to circumstances that pass understanding, I haven't spoken to him since the 90's. I do, however, wish him well in what is now, surely his retirement !!
My grandma dated Bob Seger in high school in Ann Arbor (my whole family’s from Michigan). She says he would come into the restaurant her dad owned and he’d ask for the pretty lady to take his order (my grandma). Every time I play his music she gets so happy.
Grew up with Bob Seger, here in Michigan. He wrote anthems for a whole generation of us here in Michigan. One of the greatest songwriters to ever live. One of the greatest voices. Old Time Rock n' Roll!
When I first moved to Detroit, (10th grade) I heard Bob Seger and the Last Heard, on the radio, doing East Side Story . Fan for life, eagerly waiting for each new release, never disappointed!
I am 54 years old.... Night move is the song dedicated to my partner of 35 years... And it was TRUE!!! 16 years old and working on dreams... His music changed my life!!! Forever a die hard fan!!!!
Starting in the first moments of his heyday, most of Bob Seger's songs sang my life. Now 75, my running days are done .... but I'm still walking, crawling, bicycling, sometimes even wheelchairing Against the Wind.
I saw him 10/19/19 in Chicago, 3rd row right in front. He was so close he could hear us talking between set's, he was smiling at everyone's enthusiasm. I'm glad I got to see him live before he stopped touring.
He ,and not just Bob Dylan ,deserves the Nobel prize. Great poet rocker ...what Springsteen is to the East Coast, Bob Seger is to the entire Midwest, legendary. The by far most underrated rock musician great in history. Seger rocks...rules ...and reigns !
Love Seger! He’s huge here in Michigan. So many great ones, but “Mainstreet” will always be my favorite tune of his. He takes you on a journey in his songs.
More proof that here in the Great Lakes state we know good music. Many live albums were recorded here. Michigan, and for that matter, the Great Lakes region, has been a great source of many styles of music. Think about it Bob said it decades ago and I think it is still true "Detroit audiences are the greatest rock and roll audiences in the world" Keep on rocking, Stay safe and healthy 👌😎👍✌️
Night Moves. My late husband of 50 years and I literally lived that song in college when we were dating, learning and practicing our night moves. Practice made perfect; thanks, Bob.
My favorite Bob Seger song is what ever one I happen to be listening to at the time. Bob Seger, John Mellencamp and Jackson Brown are true American originals.
I saw Iggy Pop at Bookies Club 88...Bob Marley at the Masconic Temple...Jeff Beck and the Mahavischnu Orchestra..Bob Seger...the Guess Who all great.....Kidd Rock sucks.
Live Bullet was rated as the best live concert recording album of the 70s by Rolling Stone Magazine several years ago. Growing up in Michigan my friends and myself played the hell out of it at our frequent parties.
I was lucky enough to see him in Indianapolis for his final tour with my dad, it was our third time seeing him. He seriously kills it no matter how old he is.
Bob Seger's music carried me through High School , college and trade school. I started trucking in 1984 and he rode with me in truck for 15 years. This guy's music was such huge influence in my life . I always felt that he was singing about my life. One of the greatest blue collar rocker of all time. Thank you mr. SEGER for getting me through my teenage years and into adulthood with you music.
The Best musician and performer of all times!!! Bob Seger is the real deal love him because he is not fake everything about Bob it true and real... KEEP ON ROCKING‼️‼️ I have seen you 3 times and will see as many times as possible each time you come to Nashville..Thank you for all your beautiful music!!!
SEGER is one of the best rockers out there. He did pay his dues, but never got the accolades he totally deserved. He is my living legend for 40 years or more. He is great.
Fell in the love with this band when Night Moves came out. Ever since then I always thought Bob Seger was singing about my life. Thanks for the memories Bob, YOU’RE THE MAN
Me too. Started as a fan with his breakout album Night Moves, then saw him every time he toured in Cincinnati during my youth. I'm now almost 67. What fond memories of those days. He was a fantastic performer in concert!
I’ve seen him 6 times starting in ‘72. Yea, BACK IN ‘72!! Great song and underrated album. Saw him in a bar near Saginaw, maybe a few hundred people. Sat right in front of the stage. He blew our minds. Grew up listening to Bob. Definitely the soundtrack of my life. A true classic!!
I worked as a production runner at Pine Knob in the 1980s (I was just a kid) and got to meet him and spend time with him backstage which was a thrill-- what a man- what an artist what a voice what a songwriter..
I have such a deep respect and love for this man his music and voice is the most incredible I've ever heard it touches something in my soul and the older I get the more it seems to do that!! Thank you Bob for your work!!!!!!
He was not a “one hit wonder” prior to “Night Moves.” The 1974 song “Kathmandu” reached #43 on the charts. I also love the title track from that 1974 album “Beautiful Loser.”
Glad I got to see this legend in Shreveport last year. My all time favorite singer songwriter, vastly uncredited for his contributions to American music
I like Segers music.....(I think XM radio needs a SEGER channel to go along with the SPRINGSTEEN channel) "Still The Same" is a good tune.....but it ain't "Rock" Segers early music pre "Night Moves" was more Rock.
William Overly, I couldn't agree with you more. The very first song that comes to mind when I think of Bob Seger is Still The Same. No question about it. My other favs are Sunspot Baby, The Fire Down Below, Night Moves (I too lived that song only it was '83) and my all time favorite...Mainstreet. My youth is irreversibly tied to these songs.
Long before he was a national hero, those of us who lived in Michigan would go to see him and stand up the instant he hit the stage, And you next sat down when you got to your car to go home. Bob Seger was the definition of Rock. Roll Me Away, Till It Shines, 2+2, Heavy Music
I recall hearing recently that Seger owned & kept his master tapes, sitting on them until he decided to release any Greatest Hits packages, which probably helped him to keep mounting tours late in his career. My favorites, Sunspot Baby, Beautiful Loser, Turn the Page & I appreciate the way everyone else responded to the song Night Moves.
My parents were HUGE fans and I grew up listening to him. There was a running joke that however my dad had his hair, the next Seger album would match. So if my dad's hair was long, so was Bob's....if my dad cut, then so had Bob. It was hilarious. His music is absolutely timeless and will forever remind me of my dad
I grew up listening to Seger. I bought my first Harley at age 21 because of this man. I have already traveled to 7 states. Something about his music that just makes you want to get on a bike and go without locking back. I went to one of his concerts on his last tour. (was 23 at the time). No joke, I did not see a single person my age or younger. I have to say his concert was the absolute best concert I had ever been too. The fact that this man sang 22+ songs and every single one was a master piece is unbelievable. Its bittersweet knowing that every other concert I go to, wont be as great as that one.
Saw him for the 1st at Anaheim Stadium 1976 opening for Kiss, Ted Nugent, and Montrose. The whole show rocked but Bob Seger paved the way that day and I've been a fan ever since. Good Times, indeed!
Saw him first at high school sock hop in 1967 with a page boy haircut. Whenever he played it was sold out. I've been a fan ever since and seen him in concert many times.
@@corinajensen6742 I saw him in October at the United Center in Chicago. At first I was bummed because my ticket wasn't main floor. But it was the first row off of the main floor, with the stage to the right. No trying to look through heads and shoulders as he made his way around the stage. What really struck me about the show was how many times he thanked the audience for coming out. He seemed really touched and appreciative of the career that he had and that just fed the audience even more. If this is the last concert I ever see (and it might be; all the greats are gone), I'll be happy.
John R Ziemba i totally agree. he was so kind through the whole show and even took time to thank all the members and crew and gave them credit about awards and things they’d won and been nominated for. he truly is my favorite artist.
Turn the page was a song we used to sing in the engine room of the carrier I was on in the navy in 1982-83 while taking in the 7 month long west-pacific cruise. I'll never forget those times, those great Seger songs and the many friends made along the journey. Thanks Bob.
My homeboy⚘went to same schools, lived in same cities, had Pistons seats directly in front of him, even made him a pair of bell bottoms back in the old Aquinas daze ✌💖⚘⚘🎶
I saw Bob when he was with the System in the late 60's on the east side of Toledo, Ohio....I was 10 feet from him the whole night....No stage.... He and the band were playing on the dance floor...It was on a Sunday afternoon and my friend and I were dropped off there.....The place was called The Hullaballoo....What a memory...Thanks....Rambling Gambling' Man....I still play it today....
I started listening to Bob Seger in the 1960s. Saw him perform in several small bars and large venues around Michigan.. When I was in college in 1974, at what is now Mott Community College, I was editor of the college newspaper. Near the end of the school year, the student council announced they had a $10,000 budget surplus and asked for suggestions about how to spend the money. I suggested in the newspaper that they bring Bob Seger to perform on campus. That's exactly what they did. It was a truly great show, as always.
I saw him in Denver playing with Bachmann Turner Overdrive. It was Awesome, eh? I liked his collaboration with the Muscle Shoals All Stars. He went down to record with them, they agreed but they stopped after recording a couple tracks. Bob said he had more, they explained the financial side. He asked them if they wanted to share in the proceeds. They shook hands and continued. Unheard of in the record business, but they all kept to their word and handshake. That is respect.
MONGREL! My favorite album from Bob. Raw. Brilliant. It resides in my top 10 albums of all time. But the song that means the most to me today is Against The Wind. Been running into that wind forever it seems. Thanks Bob.
I'm with you. All his songs were hits. My gosh, hes a fricking legend in the music industry. There is not a song I dont like. What about Trying to Live My Life Without You, what a song. Then they is Beautiful Loser, Hollywood Nights. I mean come on. He is up there in the Top 5 Bands in the world if you ask me.
Clearly written by somebody too young to remember and had to rely on research of other people's work. There is way too much "according to" this magazine and "according to" that magazine, nothing original. Blah!
The guy narrating this apparently have been badly misinformed. Live bullet absolutely one of if not the top live music recordings of all time. He Left out some of the greatest music such as, Turn the Page, old time rock and roll, Beautiful Loser and on and on. Seger was to the 80s what Skynyrd was to the 70s. Hands down best 80s rock band of all time. Still listen to his music . And never gets old,, of course we have to give a shout out to the Swampers. Bob wrote the songs and the Swampers helped put music to it. Someone once said "they've been known to pick a song or two"
I was lucky enough to see him in his final Michigan tour date. The Old Pine Knob... at 74 that man rocked harder than any body in the Billboard 100 today.
He spent a week in Skidway lake , Michigan having a concert in a field not far from where I live . that was in Mid 1970’s July and the tickets were $6.00 .
Listen, pity the fools for thinking his biggest hits was only him. I knew him when he was so young, and It was a positive he would become great. Michigan adored the man that produced more magic that so many don't even realize.
He also sang back up in Heartache tonight and was the ultimate tie-breaker in deciding to move Henley over Frye to be the Eagle’s front man. He’s genuinely worked his ass off to achieve his American dream and gives back more than anyone knows. He has a relentless intellectual curiosity and remains humble and private + devoted to his family. One of my greatest role models
@@MrKatielee16 "Role Model",...thats nailed it for me as well. One great memory, 1979, I moved to way Northern California. I befriended 8 or 9 friends who knew NOTHING about Bob. I turned them all on with his albums, and they were HOOKED! For some reason that made me feel so good!?!
No mention of Live Bullet, which actually did put Bob on most peoples' maps, minds, and hearts. It is an excellent live recording in Detroit of great songs and top-notch performances.
I’d no idea of his history as an athlete, and desire to pursue such, but personally, I believe this world is such a better place being able to hear and appreciate his music. Either way, he’s such a special soul. May God continue to bless him.
@@officialbobseger39 One of my regrets is never being able to attend one of your live shows ... now you’re retired, and I don’t get too far.. being over 40 is such work!! Lol, I’m 67...
@@officialbobseger39saw u live in Birmingham and have been in love ever since❤️got there for rehearsal and sat in ctr front seat of 1st row. I was an usher and had to keep crowd off Alto when he came in audience❤️Bless you and love everything about ur music.danced many times to Fire Down Below. HER Strut and more..❤️
Segers vocals on Live Bullet are incredible, the speed of his singing in Get Out Of Denver , Katmando and Let It Rock amaze still to this day and to do it live makes it even more incredible .
I am almost 63 now. First saw Bob Segar and The Silver Bullet Band in 77. Nothing like waiting for a concert to start. now the lights go off. The band takes the stage. I have been to many concerts by that point in my life. NOTHING was like the sound of this band. To say they were tight would be a understatement. It was a WALL on sound. I was lucky enough to see Bob 6 times in my lifetime. I ALWAYS wanted to see him play in Michigan. That the place of his most diehard fans like myself. In closing Bob said it best. ROCK AND ROLL NEVER FORGETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Words cant describe how many of his tunes hit you deep in the heart and soul..Thank you so much Bob for all the years of adding to the soundtrack of my life😎🚬♐♐💞💞
I'm 75 years-old, and have followed Bob's career. Bob Seger is not only a 'National Treasure', but a humble man as well. What you see is what you get with Bob. He's the real deal.
A story teller with the most authentic voice in history. No ego, just Truth that connects him to the listener in a way that makes you feel he's just a regular guy.
So you did a video on the history of Bob Seger's music success, and never mentioned "We've Got Tonight" In the long run, I think that song will outlast the others. The music and the lyrics are timeless, and will appeal for many generations to come. Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton made a ton of money off of this song, but the emotion that Bob Seger put into to this song is hard to beat. It's every bit as good as Kenny Rogers. ( Bob, if you should ever read this, I humbly and sincerely thank you for writing and singing such a great song.)
This is great ! Probably here before but while i've loved Bob's work over time it is a TV interview with Glenn Frey that i think of now. This was 6 or so years ago while on vacation and a local TV show had him as guest. He related a story where they were friends way back and while Bob was playing local gigs playing originals, Glenn was mostly a support guy in bands, guitars and vocals. Went to Bob, "I want to write my own songs but what if they aren't any good ?" Bob, "They won't be at first but if you keep trying, you'll get better" Sage advice. To think after writing so many great songs for The Eagles and calls Bob for help on their last 'hit', Thats awesome. Fave track, "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", Silver Bullet Live. Drew Abbot 'Strat" tone, go to for me for hours (covers, some party and bar gigs). Story was Bob didn't like this tone. Guitar Player mag interview in like '78 with Drew, states this and a Gold Top Les Paul is in the acc photos.
Wow!!!! You missed the whole thing!!!! I am from MI and saw Bob play at Kirtland Community College when I was in Jr College up to his heyday. What happened to "Live Bullet!!!!" Best album ever!!!! The first song, "Nutbush City Limits", (Sang by many before and after him) is like the National Anthem of the state of Michigan. Whenever any of us old timers cross over the line from Ohio into Michigan it is Nutbush and the entire rest of the album, turned up very loud to greet you home!!! Moonpie
Heavy music.(the last heard) Down on main st ... My A2 friend from 65-69. .then I moved to Nor Cal.. I worked at the A2 Music Mart for John Flis.. Bob gave me a puppy in 65 🎸🎶😎 Hi Bob if you see this ... So far the only old friends from A2 that's had a conversation with me on here is Ted Nugent another blast from the past homie...👍😎
The band is so awesome that I have been going to his shows since 1980. I would have loved to see his final show here in Indiana. COVID has destroyed any chance to see them one last time...
I have a family connection of sorts to a member of the crew. Have been to multiple Seger concerts backstage, starting in 1979. Always a very positive and friendly environment. Was lucky enough to see his last tour visit to Denver, CO in Feb 2019, 40 years after the first time I saw him. He ROCKED IT! It was bittersweet to see him end on such a high note, but also realize the tour stage of this rock legend was ending. His songs and my experiences will live with me forever as a part of my life.
