My ex-husband told me I was going to be a one-hit wonder after winning a songwriting award in the UK songwriting contest in 2011. Five awards and four EPs later. I'm like who is a one-hit wonder, joker? Ronnie Dyson had hit after hit and lives on in living memory because he was just that great! Payola works in the music industry. To me, success is when your music touches and impacts lives. I can't ever thank myself enough for ignoring detractors!

Ronnie Dyson had a voice like no other. Just like Luther Vandross, he can go high or low because he can make his voice expand, which can be extremely hard if you are a singer. Our family back in the day had just one album by this spectacular singer. I have a friend, who knew Ronnie Dyson personally, because of the church they went to in the sixties. He said, "Maurice, when this guy was done singing, he had damn near everyone in that church crying!" And I believe him. A legendary singer in his own right. The songs Ronnie Dyson sung that stuck out to me are "Even In The Darkest Night", "Familiar Strangers" & "Waiting For You." God Bless him, we lost him way too soon.

It was much later on, in the 2010s, that I learned he sang "Aquarius" in Bway Hair. Of course, I only knew the 5th Dimension's version. Carl killed them both! We know Carl primarily for those songs, but over in the UK, some of Carl's 1960s songs (Competition Ain't Nothing, to name one) are big with the Northern Soul crowd.

For me Ronnie Dyson had one of the sweetest soul voices. It's incredible that he failed to become an A lister. The record business can be cruel and fickle. Sad fact is that Ronnie wasn't the most handsome or most masculine guy and this had a negative effect on his career. He deserved so much more recognition and commercial success.

He had 1 top 10 hit on the pop charts. The term “One Hit Wonder” is most commonly used in regard to music performers with only one hit single that overshadows their other work. His hit “(If You Let Me Make Love to You Then) Why Can't I Touch You?” Overshadows his other work even the entitled album was his most successful. Therefore according to the term One Hit Wonder it still stands

Fun fact “Something” by Musiq Soulchild was originally covered by Ronnie Dyson. Ol’ School Music connoisseurs know RD, he’s a legend. This episode brought back memories, good channel!!!

I remember "If You Let Me...," I hadn't heard the other songs until now. Ronnie had an excellent voice, I think record companies didn't know what to do with him image-wise.

Ronnie was not a one hit wonder I got all 7of his albums he didn't have mega hits but he was no one hit wonder of ocourse he's best known why can't I touch you one man band I think I'll tell her just don't want to be lonely the more you do it the more I like it close to you don't be afraid couples only heart to heart and all over your face he had a song a one spike lee's movie soundtrack I forget the name of it he had some good songs too bad we lost him so soon to poor health some day it's was from his drug addiction and some say it was from something else that I don't care to get into whatever it was he a good singer that left us too soon

I was impressed with his voice. One of the best in the business. He just didn't seem to catch on. To answer your question, "Why Can't I Touch You" is my favorite.

I love all music, but R&B is my absolute favorite. Ronny Dyson sang one most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. It’s called “I Think I’ll Tell Her”. I love all of his music, but this diamond-in-rough didn’t receive the accolades it deserved. Look it up and I guarantee you’ll listen to it for the rest of your life! Dave the Musicologist

My friends and I used to make our own charts out in the 70s, and on June 23, 1973, "One Man Band" hit # 1 on my list. Great record!

I've only known Ronnie Dyson from his one hit in the early 70's. Sadly I didn't know he had a catalog of music. He had such an unique amazing voice.

I don't want to be lonely, I remember him.I really didn't listen to his music that much. Sylvester had huge hit in the 80s that I play Mighty Real, and a other you are my friend. That Patti Labelle did with Nora and Sarah. He was a marvelous man and singer . That HIV took his life. I still play his songs to this day 😊.

Chuck Jackson, the singer is Jesse Jackson's brother. The gentleman you mention in the video has the same name but they are two different people. Look up Jackson's "I Wake Up Crying" among many other hits and collabs with Burt Bacharach.
