I live in this neighborhood. Yes , it's nice. Good restaurants, grocery stores, easy commute. But the glamour as portrayed in this video? Believe me, when you are working a super stressful corporate job and giving more than half your take home pay to rent (forget about ever buying unless you're a billionaire) to be in a tiny, viewless, dark apartment with bedbugs, it's really not that glamorous.
@jennygibbons1258
@jennygibbons1258 5 лет назад
So true. The American dream comes at a cost, and the price tag grows each day, yet in some ways the price tag is hidden until your BP and stress levels are sky high and a stroke looms over the horizon. Only then do some maybe realise it's too high a price to pay for a 'nice' address.

Fred Flintstone thank you for being honest, at least someone has their head outta the clouds and into reality. Status quo isn’t worth it, your not in the 80s anymore. Try and make where you live now better, get people who live in your neighborhood you think will want to better their environment and do something about it! Talk to your mayor about stricter litter laws. Instead of dreaming of a better place you can’t afford now, try to make where you live where you want to live. Be The Change!

I love buildings; I've always been fascinated by them. I have always wished that I could have someone drive me all over NYC just to look at them, but I can't afford to even get to NYC, let alone hire anyone to drive me around as much as I'd want. These videos are the next best thing. Thank you so much for producing them.

@Myblockny
@Myblockny 7 лет назад
I can not tell you the exact dollar amount because its different from person to person. But let me give you 2 examples: Last year my friend from Seattle broke up with her boyfriend and landed in my apartment with a few pockets of tears, 2 suitcases and only $1950 in her bank. She was determined to leave the past behind and start a new life in New York. After 2 weeks of hustling she found a job in marketing, after 3 weeks she found a room with 3 other roommates in Brooklyn. She lives paycheck to paycheck but she enjoys life in New York City more than anyone I know. Second example: About 3 years ago my friend from Texas saved $10,000 and moved to New York. The spoiled brat didn't want to live with roommates so he found a small studio apartment in Chelsea for $2200. He made a few mistakes along the way that cost him a lot of money. Since he wasn't familiar with the city he used a real estate broker. This is what he paid on the first day when he signed the lease: First month rent: $2200 One month security deposit: $2200 Last month rent: $2200 Broker's fee: $2200 The total: $8800 Remember, he came with 10,000 and a few minutes later he left with only $1200 Conclusions: - Skip the broker, do the apartments search yourself - Live with roommates - Find a landlord that doesn't charge last month rent New York is not for the faint-hearted. I met many people who moved here and left after 2-3 months. My suggestion: Come here for one month, explore the city, meet new people, make new friends, and only then make the decision if NYC is the right place for you.

Hi, could anyone provide some information on Amsterdam Ave, NY. My aunt, emigrated from Ireland in 1920 and died in 1972. She spent many years living at the address, 1652?? Amsterdam Ave. Not sure of the ZIP code anymore! I visited NY about 10yrs ago, but I did not have enough information to locate the address. A very helpful person advised that all that area was demolished and is now part of Columbia University. Is there any historical site, that has archival film/photos of that era. What Catholic Church would have served the spiritual needs of that community. I would be so grateful if someone could point out where such info may exist, if at all. Sincere thanks for any assistance you may provide

Not true. I have a studio apt on W83rd for over 25yrs and that may have been true 30yrs ago but not today. Google NYC crime stats. The Upper westside is an extremely affluent community. I'm lucky to still be there, at least part time the rest of the time, in the Caribbean. NYC isn't what it used to be, it's basically unaffordable to 90% of working people in the U.S.A. If I had to sign a lease for my apt. today, I'd get a big REJECTION notice, inadequate income.
