The Uptown story starts with its founding in 1986 via a $75,000 deal with MCA for a compilation album and effectively ends with Andre exiting to run Motown Records with a contract worth millions.
Jimmy Jenkins, also known as Jimmy Luvs or “JLuvs”, had previously been the Vice President of Uptown Records alongside Andre’ Harrell.

Was it Andre who named the music New Jack Swing or I heard a writer early described to Teddy his music as New Jack Swing . His name was Michael Schultz .

Andre lived in Bronxdale Projects. 1055 Rosedale Ave. That's the Southeast Bronx. A lot of artists came through there. Jodeci, Father MC, Finesse & Synquis...

I said "Andre" as in "Andre Harrell" lived in Bronxdale Projects but actually grew up there; then I said a lot of artists came through there (his old apt) starting with Jodeci (actually living there briefly) along with Father MC, Finesse & Synquis among others cause he turned his old apt into a studio

I said Andre lived (but actually grew up) in Bronxdale Projects and Jodeci along with the other artists I named used to come through cause Andre turned his old apt into a studio. If you knew anything about Jodeci and their history you would know that when they first went to NY they stayed in Andre's old apartment

Terri Robinson of the group went on to write a lot of hits for other artist , she wrote alot of Mary's early hits..

Along with writing and singing back up for many artists as well as singing the theme song to in living color she's the mother of 1 of Anthony Hamilton's sons. Terri is so talented & underrated. She's the 1st artist who inspired me to write songs and sing.

He said Schoolly D, but he meant "Spoonie Gee". 😄 I'm glad you got Jimmy "Luv" to tell the story, especially being that Andre left so early. 🙏🏿 That change from the park and house parties to the clubs is significant, because according to many, if the Puerto Ricans he's talking about didn't take the torch tor hip hop, it wouldn't have sustained and grown to the level it has become. Largely because so many of "us" were tryna be grown & sexy and R&B, that it was almost like the culture of hip hop was being abandoned.

The biopic was in the works with BET and Andre Harrell but stopped when he died. The plan is to continue but also Jimmy Luv Jerkins is now making movies and plans his own movie

I really miss those days College life everybody going down Virginia Beach ; Clubs in the fall and winter fashion shows 82-90 was magical. I remember This OG telling Me that NYC was going to burnout He was talking about Harlem becoming Gentrified back then but we couldn’t see it. Harlem is not the same i miss Old York Old Harlem.

He was giving an overview from his involvement after school and Andre getting the deal and bringing him on board.

@@HalftimeChat yeah, but he also gave Andre's history from childhood on, including his group (Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde), to his promotions at Lehman College, and then he jumped into the start of Uptown Records. There was no mention of Andre working at Def Jam as an executive, as well as the fact that Andre brought Heavy D to Russell Simmons at Def Jam FIRST! 🤔
