@Johnnyharris overall this highly viewed video was a successful message to inform people of the urgency in protecting our sacred First Amendment rights! Your video shows that the Biden administration chooses to continue appealing the ASSANGE case even though US press freedom is at stake, particularly investigative journalism. So, you transparently mention that you are not promoting Julian Assange's personality here but the implications of this historic case, which is agreed upon by many. However, I ask you why you FAIL to list the facts of the multiple global awards Assange has won for his journalism and the license he has as an Australian Journalist versus decades ago as a hacker. Why do you leave this out? Are you afraid you might expose the positive points of his personality such as courageous, anti war, anti corruption, truth teller, highly intelligent? I also support recommending the documentary 'Risk' but highly reject the listed mention of,'We Steal Secrets' by Alex Gibney as this video claiming to be a documentary has an abundant amount of propaganda meant to defame Assange. This so called documentary is made available to stream right before there are any new developments in Assange's case and should be considered government propaganda not a fact based documentary. Wikileaks has warned viewers of this type of mainstream media's propaganda push and urges viewers to seek out other more fact based films recommended by the site AssangeDefense.org. So, my question to you is why disconnect from the historic relevance of this case the heroic and personal sacrifices made by Assange, the person?!
The thing about calling him a traitor, is that he's not a US citizen and therefore has no obligation of allegiance to the US or its government, you can't commit treason against another country.
I don't know the fact that he can be charged for being a "traitor" even though he's not even a US citizen is incredible to me. It almost feels like the US is implying they own the world and all are subject to US laws even if you're not a US citizen.
The proposition that you need to be a citizen in order to be under US law is pretty insane. If I'm not a citizen, I can now go to the US. kill a man, and US court cannot charge me with murder?
🤔 I think, the word "spoke the truth" can be seems in another way, as "annoying and attacking the goverments and organizations" 🤨 If you see it in wider views, the case spread from Military, Intelligence, Economy, and Politic.. 🙄 Thats why many people hate him.. Edit: •_•) Keep reminded that Wikileaks is a media, not the one itself that "tell the truth" by leaking a lot of classified/secret document.. 😒 So it's more complicated for them (goverment/orgy) to make decision when they get annoyed..
@@XanderProduction he did speak the truth though. just because it's the government/millitary/whatever, does it mean that they don't have to be humane or follow the laws they put in place?
@@XanderProduction maybe ,but you can't justify incarcerating someone for telling the truth ,that means everything we are is for nothing .It sends the wrong message don't you think .My heart breaks for him lying in that hellhole ! Obama and Clinton should in there not him !
You forgot to add that he became an Ecuadorian citizen for his time at the embassy and the government just handed him over. Imagine me as an Ecuadorian citizen knowing that my citizenship is meaningless and my government will just let a foreign government seize me if I pissed them off.
You citizenship is nothing but a political tool, they can do whatever they want. Until the people can appeal to the moral and ethical capacity of the military to put nooses on the necks of politicians for their crimes this will continue. If the military have any moral or ethical capacity left that is
@Pikachu uprising his Australian citizenship didn't help him either, name a country that goes around standing up to America though?? They're aren't many if any, Russia and north Korea are probably his only chances
How can an Australian national be an “unpatriotic traitor” to ANOTHER country, unless the USA is not a country, but an empire to which Australia is totally subject to?
The crux of their (not mine) argument is that Assange would have been responsible for the deaths of honest Americans doing their job in Iraq because of the informations he published and made accessible to the enemy who located and shot them down. So it is a pursuit for murder complicity, basically. And even if you cause deaths while being in another country, you are guilty and subject to extradition, especially when in a country subject to the same system of law (anglo-saxon Common Law). The problem is that these Americans killed had no business being in Iraq and therefore cannot be called honest. But you cannot say that to Americans nowadays. Since they lost in Vietnam thanks in great part to their whistleblowers they will no longer tolerate the latter.
“Common Law” doesn't mean what you think it does. Besides, it's not the system in most of this one-&-only Planet's jurisdictions, anyways. What you're looking for is: Extraterritoriality of jurisdiction. And Uncle Sam really believes that he has the jurisdiction to enforce his own laws anywhere across this one-&-only Planet, and even beyond - Ms "@@MrMirville". And that's why, even in the unlikeliest cases of Free Market Capitalism: The FCPA which is initialism for Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, meant to curb corruption-inducing practices of corporate Murica, was used to penalise Alstom very hard, followed by Ericsson few years later - as the latest-example. That was made possible by the change passed by Congress under the 1st Clinton administration. So when it's that recalcitrant for the Capitalists, you could only image how the outcomes of court-cases in matters of _libel_ could possibly play out. Hopefully I won't need to spell that part out. Nevermind Sir Assānge, who does not stand a chance against the greatest State terrorist in the world. #PaxAmericana
@@superRobertoist Tbh nah, as an Australian I can pretty well say that while we might not be a literal puppet of the United States, they have significantly more influence over our country than anyone would like to admit, through both governmental and commercial channels. The most glaring example of this is as far back as the 70s when our PM Gough Whitlam got coup’d by the CIA for moving Australia’s foreign and domestic policy too far out of line with what the US wanted, like trying to pull us out of Vietnam, charging foreign (mostly US lol) mining companies more for selling our resources (since even to this day they’re pretty well robbing us blind), and apparently even threatening to close Pine Gap (a strategically vital intel asset operated by the CIA themselves near Alice Springs). That’s not a conspiracy theory by the way, just about everyone involved in Gough’s dismissal had proven links to the CIA, like the Governor-General himself was part of the ‘Congress for Cultural Freedom’ (read: proven CIA networking agency) and got name dropped by the CIA themselves multiple times as basically being “their man” in Australia. So yeah, we’re not doing too well sadly.
Persecuting the owner of the website, seems to be the way they can distract our attention with some "circus" while keeping safe the actual criminals exposed with the published documents.

My respect for you went up 10 times for even covering this. If we let this man be incarcerated we make it possible that any journalist can be a criminal for their work alone.
He is not a journalist. "any journalist can be a criminal for their work alone" Journalists are not above the law, that much should be obvious but here we are.
@@DickCheneyXX I never said he was a journalist, it depends on the definition but it's really not relevant here. You *could* apply most of these charges to almost all serious journalists as well as Johny clearly states in this video. Yes in principle but the espionage act should definitely be up for discussion. A wartime decree on how to deal with spies over a hundred years ago can't be perfect. This one can and has been abused by the government to silence critics before.
Anyone can be criminalized for their work. The problem is we let sh*t people into charge, because of some "tests" and slanderous libel whilst people who experienced and mastered the work didn't get into meritful position because of some tests that requires institutionalized language. I've seen teachers getting sanctione for keeping students at school overtime, despite this teacher is an actual counselor and the parents are abusive. Also other way around where parents are humiliated for not schooling childrens despite knowing the bullying they endured, as a parent and student. There are much more evil people in life, and we learnt it the hard way. The fastest way to spot them, is to see if they can hold responsibility and accountability. And in my latest experience is that 125 out of 183 subjects cheated the tests. The most evil one were the 17 people who didn't admit.
The definition of crime is pretty clear. The meaning is not and in the case of the USA, it's pretty corrupt. None of the many things Trump did during and after his tenure are by any meaningful standard crimes. Some might be technically hard to prove, but he obviously committed crimes. There is no way how you can abused power, erode institutions in charge of protecting the constitution, blackmail foreign statesmen for personal gain using the power of your office, redirect US military to your hotels, incite a violent coup attempt and so much more. He is still not indicted for any of these and all the crimes I did not mention. All of them were committed in plain sight, we know the factual basis of these accusation from media reporting and for the most part, these reported fact have not even been denied. If you pay with a fake $20 bill, you get publicly executed on the street by a police officer, if you commit treason, the real treason, you not only get away, you also have good chances to be re-elected to an office that makes you immune from prosecution. This is so disgusting, it hurts even thinking about it. This is not as you say a general problem. Power corrupts, but the state of corrupting in the USA is extreme. It's what one would expect in a banana republic or in Russia.
You know all about that, living in a fucked up country like Japan. I pray that Japan and its people receive the justice they deserve, and will be allowed to live freer and happier lives some day soon ❤️
The woman who blew the whistle on the crimes that Assange published served her time and is now free, the man who published them is being tortured (according to a U.N expert on the matter) at Belmarsh awaiting extradition for a violation of the "espionage act" despite not being an American citizen. If the _"crime"_ of publishing the info was such a problem, then wouldn't the person who did leak the information still be in prison? Exactly. That is all you need to know.
It shows those trials have nothing to do with fairness. It‘s about „teaching lessons“ to the public (and perhaps private retialiation as well). Many state employees know secrets but if you let the world know their dirty secret, then it‘s over for anyone who dares to do so.
Assange, Manning, Snowden and all the people exposing the horrors governments all around the world commit in the name of "peace and freedom" should be praised for their bravery and courage and should be treated as heroes, not traitors.
And speaks volumes about the mental instability of the members of the military, top to bottom. As in all corporations the shit trickles down from the top.
Jonathan pollard committed an espionage act, he sold US high secrets to Israeli now as a hero live in Israel happily ever after, also US taxpayer for his life style, now why Julian Assange is in Jail
We have a "Demonize the Whistleblower" culture. This applies to many countries around the world. In my country, the people exposing corruption, drug cartels, factories dumping garbage in the ocean, are the ones getting jailed and the people are cheering for it because the government says the whistleblowers are the evil ones...

Regarding the Hillary leak, Assange had previously held TED-talks in 2010 for doing the exact same thing during a Kenya election, and the world applauded him for it. He kept to his principles, and it would cost him everything. He never did anything illegal, and as an Australian he certainly never "betrayed" the US.

A similar thing is happening in Australia currently, our government is actively prosecuting veterans for exposing war crimes in an attempt to save face. It is truly saddening and a genuine threat to our free speech and integrity of our country
Show proof that veterans are being prosecuted for exposing war crimes. None of your right wing conspiracy sheet bollocks or facebook or youtube posts either.
LOL! So Australia has people who don't understand there's no such thing as "free speech" and are confused about the laws regarding it? I thought that was a problem which only existed among the ignorant in the USA but I guess the USA and Australia are closer siblings than I thought.
I already have no respect for the US government but seeing atrocities like this be so casually committed really LOWERS my respect for our armed service members. I don't care how you've been trained, you still know the difference between right and wrong. And if you legitimately don't know the difference, you shouldn't be in the military.
It's not as simple as that. Having family that were/are military you're kind of forced into two options; you either completely seize to function properly or you turn off and become a monster. That's the reality of war, it's horrible. What is to be held accountable is careless protocol from their higher ups however. These men are just trying to adapt to the absolute mayhem they're in and they're conditioned to do whatever is asked and cannot afford to second guess it. I think unless you experience it yourself you'd never understand. We can only hold the pigs that never saw a moment of war but commanded the atrocities accountable
It's really not that simple. "Right and wrong" don't always line up with lawful or unlawful orders. The amount of damage the uniform code of military justice will do to your life and your family's is enormous should you disobey lawful orders. You face being executed, even. You wanna do the right thing per your moral code 100% of the time? Don't join the military.
Unless you actually worked in intelligence or held a clearance, you don’t know what Snowden truly did. If you think he’s a hero, you are very wrong. He did way more bad than good.
I went to the Ecuadorean embassy in London when Julian went in. There was a rumour that the UK police were going to force their way in. So we all went down there to livestream it and keep an eye on things. The police hated us. When it rained, they forced us to stand in the rain and get wet, instead of in a shelter we had permission to stand in. Loads of people from Anonymous were there too. As a British Citizen, I am 100% against how the UK has treated Julian, and I am disgusted at how the general public have condemned him due to lies and misinformation spread by the UK and USA. It’s just so wrong, and this should never be allowed to happen in this day and age.

It may be an uncomfortable truth, but Americans in general exclusively consume american news, and don't seek alternative opinions as much as many European countries do. The worst that can be said about Australian citizen, Julian assange, is that he is a whistleblower. He didn't create the documents he published. He simply published them and in so doing revealed things we should all know about, like the Reuters reporters who were killed in the bombings of civilians.

Unfortunately, Mr. Harris failed to mention that a number of intelligence assets were either arrested or executed because their identity was made obvious because of what Wikileaks posted. No effort was apparently made to omit the records that would endanger people, or even preview them before posting, even though many of these people lived in states that can disappear them...
Extraordinarily explained. I understand how difficult this may have been for you with such copious amounts of research. This is truly dark times knowing that free speech is constantly in danger.
The espionage act was used many times in history, but another important case that it was used was in Shenck v. The United States. Basically Shenck was a journalist in early 20th century (during WWI) and he felt that the draft was a violation of the 13th Amendment (the one that outlaws slavery). He felt that forcing all able bodied males above a certain age to go and fight in a war was slavery. So he posted an article promoting this idea and that people should boycott it. He was arrested and charged with violating the Espionage Act because he was getting in the way of the war effort. He brought his case to Supreme Court, but even they agreed that he violated the espionage act. Kinda weird.
An Australian MP put it well when simplifying why exactly Australians should defend Assange, "Frankly, he's a ratbag, but he's _our_ ratbag and he's entitled to the same protections as an Australian as you or me." Like yes he's likely a criminal but he shouldn't get the death sentence for exposing the US' serious crimes.
The Australian Liberal government has a long record of not protecting Australians and deferring to US masters. John Howard took Australia into the illegal war Invasion of Iraq, John Howard abandoned Mamdouh Habib and David Hicks who were kidnapped by US soldiers and held illegally in their illegal prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Howard mantra was you are un-Australian if you criticise illegal or immoral government activities. Since then Liberal governments have lied time and again to Australians - 'Refugees through their children overboard into the sea - Peter Reith', right through to the current Liberal PM, Morrison who lies even about what he previously said on record.

I agree partially. However, I wonder why he left out the Yahoo News report from last year on plans from Pompeos administration to abduct Assange from the embassy. There are also reports that Assange is denied access to his lawyers in Belmarsh. The accusations were also changed several times over the last years, what he also didn't mention. The government wants to show the journalists what can happen to them if they publish classified information. That's the main reason for the case against Assange. @@princehabibi1022 Christians are killed across the world every day, and not for anything they've done or are suspected of doing, but simply for their beliefs. So many people fear the God they say doesn't exist.
Assange absolutely needs to win this case if he's going to be tried. If US manages to get legal precedence over publishing gov. leaks that will mean this case will be usable by any lawyer for decades to come until we're at a time where someone can dispute the results again. This would end up being an extreme step towards major censorship.
Look at how media and the US government are treating the leaker of the recent overturning of Roe V Wade. Calling them “traitors”, “liars”, and asking to lock them up. The US has already showed that it will do anything in its power to overthrow basic human rights. Assange will likely not win, we just have to make sure that we riot and protest against the court system.
Thank you for shedding light on this. Wikileaks has been the biggest exposer of government corruption and to have that punished under laws of "espionage" while people stay silent is disgusting.
It’s even more disturbing because typically, the Espionage was only supposed to be in effect during times of war, just like trying someone with treason, but I guess we just arbitrarily ignore that?
This is what upsets me and emotionally triggers me into pain. I belong to such a war torn country and I have heard from countless witnesses, who fought against these allied forces. They predicted all those years ago, what stupid, corrupt governments/organisations have brought these countries to; their demise. These helpers created the mess all around Iraq, Syria and the new free country for Taliban. Assange is a hero for me, he deserves to live freely

It's also mental that the 24/7 police presence outside the Ecuadorian embassy cost the UK taxpayer £10m ($12.3m) for three years. Assange, an Australian citizen in the UK, wanted by Sweden and the U.S., and yet it's Britain who has to bear this ridiculous cost.

I am profoundly grateful that you brought this to our attention. It has always been something worrying about the handling of Julian Assange that smells of injustice. There are so many things that are hidden from the public that without investigative journalism we would have no clue as to the horrors that world governments perpetrate without being held accountable.
World governments? Mostly atrocities of western governments is what's kept secret and people don't know. With governments US doesn't like, they do very well to use their mainstream media to expose their atrocities just to make as many people hate those countries and not concentrate on the US
Thank you for covering one of the coups that contributed to instability in my native country of Nicaragua. Its affected our family for sure which is something most dont think about when they think of wars, invasions and coups.
It eases their conscience, they get to have their cars, TVs, and trinkets guilt free. It's a lot harder to say you're from the freedom loving West, when you're seeing your troops gun children down for sport.
Because they would argue that what we really want is security and peace of mind. Freedom can’t exist in a vacuum, otherwise it can lead to anarchy in which ultimately everyone suffers. If you actually want a better understanding of this perspective look up Andrew Bustamante, former CIA spy. He’s been on some podcasts recently in which he does give his view and justification. Personally, I can see both sides. Imo, taken to either extreme is really dangerous so the tricky part is finding the right balance, if one exists.
Jorge Luis Carrasquillo Cepeda he is a symbol for the lies and the double moral of the US and UK what reports every day about russian war crime in Ukraine but put in prison people who report about their own war crimes. That he is in prison shows all the lies about moral and democraty in the countries of the Nato
It's so sad to see the system using every resource they have to silence and imprison Assange, all because they are afraid of what it might do to their positions of power. We live in a world where a desire to maintain the status quo will be defended at all costs...
It isn’t necessarily that there aren’t brave people like them out there, it’s that the punishments governments put on those sorts of actions are ridiculous.

Good to have you on board. As a brit I'm disappointed that the news shows I watched, including comedy shows, were so negative towards Assange, when you'd expect them to at least support the principle of freedom of the press. Especially comedians
Assange posted pedosta emails with coded language that matched code words the FBI says are used by pedo's. Pizzagate comet ping pong judge is now a supreme court justice.

An intelligent and focussed presentation. The key point - this case is really about government restrictions on free speech and the removal of an individuals freedom to speak the truth as they see it. The potential extradition of Julian Assange is another step towards authoritarian control and state managed propaganda.
