When migrating from one M365 Tenant to another and moving the underlying domain.....
Is it better to have the users login to a fresh build of Windows? Or do we provide documentation on what the experience will be like if they use their existing build?
Many of my videos focus on the infrastructure side and the cloud processes behind the scenes to perform a cloud migration. In this video I am looking at the user experience instead. What happens on a desktop or mobile device when a user is migrated. What do they see? What do they need to do? And importantly, as an IT provider, what calls are you going to get when they hit issues, roadblocks or just have questions.
In a real world scenario I take an account and move from one M365 tenant to another, then move the underlying domain as well. It means that the users will keep their UPN but will live in a different tenant.
I then look at two desktops, Azure AD Joined and Azure AD Registered, documenting the experience when the user logs in to that machine for the first time since the migration and tries to attach to various services.
Also, I have an Android and an iPhone connected to Teams, Outlook and OneDrive too, and I go through what happens there. MFA is turned on for the user in question and this is reconnected at the start.
The question then, is it worth taking the users through this entire process or should you just give them a fresh build on their machine? Let's find out.
