I felt it was Windhorst who suggested the two different contracts based on signing day and MacMahon tried to shoot it down as politely as possible. I think Lauri would take it badly if they said that he need to sign at 6th or get significantly worse deal. Getting something little extra for signing 6th he would probably feel more ok but maybe not bite on still. He keeps saying that he understands the business side of NBA but I think it's important to remember that understanding and not feeling bad aren't the same thing. I think if Lauri would emotionally be 100% ok with all trades etc. he wouldn't need to even say that he understands that side because it wouldn't bother him in any way. That's very typical way of communicating "it bothers me but I am adult enough to know why it's that way" here in Finland.

Utah is in position to tank regardless of what happens with Lauri. I just have a hard time believing that he’s truly okay with wasting the next 2-3 years of his career on a team that isn’t competitive.

@arjunsankaran5615 He doesn't want to bottom dwell forever but he also has the old school mentality that he wants to see how far he/they can take a team that isn't yet good. So he has more patience than many.

Jazz said a long time ago in instagram that the first round rookies signed. I would assume that's official enough? I haven't seen them say anything about signing Kyle though 🤔

I always thought when your primary attribute was athleticism that your career had a certain arc of effectiveness. It could carry you to a peak for a 3-5 year period, but you had to be able to learn to extend your career with other skills to maintain that position.

Jazz saying Podz is required in any deal with the Warriors. That said, if Tyus Jones was not acquired by the Suns, Warriors might have still considered it. But now, there are no PG's on the market and they need a good back up PG. This trade looks dead to me.

I just don't think the Warriors have the assets. They never have. Of course the Jazz prefer Podz to Kuminga - cheaper, more flexible, maybe a higher ceiling. But is Podz worth 3 picks? If Danny's floor is 5 1st round picks, 2+ Podz and filler seems less than 5 1st rounders.

Danny does not get to set the floor league wide on value / pick ratio. Not every player is going to get traded for 5 picks. That's not how it works. This idea that every team is going to now get fleeced for 5 picks is asinine.

5 first round picks for the best player who hasn’t played a full season on a 31-51 team? The reason why Ainge is pricing him high in terms of draft picks is because the Jazz are planning to tank and the fo knows who their buyers are. Warriors are have always been dreaming of a big who can greatly contribute offensively and lauri is the best reachable player for that. Knowing that, i think ainge is squeezing the warriors’ drive like “how much are you actually willing to pay for him?” Unless the Jazz get to lure stars to sign for utah, then the best course for that team to take is to build through drafting just like what the warriors did for the dynasty. Having Lauri on the utah roster keeps him on a non playoff bound team and honestly I would prefer to not trade for him if that’s how much he costs. There’s more at stake for the warriors in making this trade and if you think of it from our perspective, would you trade a promising guard that’s low pay for the next years or a rising star wing JK + 3/4 first round picks in future draft classes thats filled with promising frontcourt players for Lauri alone? Maybe for AD i would.

Would you want to spend next half a year hearing in your workplace that you might be permanently sent to work for other location/branch/whatever to other side of country to some random city you might like or hate? No? Why then are you asking Lauri to go through that if he can easily avoid it and just call it "being nice"? 😅

@ChristianHWilliams Because it says that Jazz want him as a trade chip not as a player? These guys dedicate their life to be as best as they can in that game and then somebody to say that they are just holding on to you until they can get rid of you and something nice back is insulting. Would you like your workplace telling you that they don't actually want you to be working for them but they give you still contract to work with them until they can transfer you to other branch (which you can't choose and might be awful as a location and as a organisation) for some kind of they goodies they get back? How motivated would you to be to work as hard as you can for the company that signed you? Also Lauri isn't as money motivated as some other players so if the drop in the amount wouldn't be significant, he probably would choose the "almost one year no trade clause" instead that he practically get by signing later.
