Great video! I think people often believe that to become a senior software engineer you only need the experience. But that’s not true, people that cares and put the time and effort on improving and taking ownership of what they are building are the ones who become seniors from my point of view. I worked with people that have more than 15 years or experience and they still behave like junior programmers and other guys with only a few years of experience that can carry entire projects.
I’ve had the same experience. Years is only an indicator of seniority when the number is really low, but after a certain threshold it really depends on the individual, how passionate they are about learning and what they do. And the term you used “ownership” is perfect, wish I had used it in my video. Thanks for the chat!
