Stephan was a ripper before this but Lexi helped her and that's why he looked different. That's also why Damon assumed that Stephan would be able to control it when he made Stephan feed on a human but it all went to shambles. Stephan became an even worse ripper because he would feed and then feel regret and then feed to not feel regret and it would just be a cycle.

I think when Stefan freaks out, he can panic and essentially stress drink blood. Hear he drank human blood, got out of control, killed someone, felt guilty, freaked out and left. I'm of the opinion that when he left, he essentially felt out of control, maybe killed one or more people, and felt so bad he turned it off, and eventually Lexi probably heard about it, came back, tortured him to snap him out of it etc. etc. I think I've said this before, but I think while it's possible Lexi may have introduced the animal blood idea to wean him off of human blood, I think Stefan may have been the one to decide to stick with it and nothing else. Lexi offers Stefan human blood in her first episode and Stefan declines. I think it's not out of the question that this is something Stefan chooses and Lexi doesn't want to force him otherwise.

Yes animal diet is Stefan's decision alone not Lexi's . He start with animal blood much later

Stefan was a ripper from the beginning.. Remember what lexi said in 1864: "You're a ripper. There are good parts of being a vampire, and there are bad parts. You're the bad parts." Lexi fixed him, then in 1912, he became the ripper again, because Damon made him taste human blood again..

The difference is that the second time he has his humanity on, the first time he didn't.

It is arguable Lexi's method did more harm then good. As Damon said in season 1. Stephan and Lexi spent all there time suppressing his thirst for human blood. When he should have been learning control. When he falls off the wagon he slaughters entire villages. When Lexi visited Stephan she was drinking blood bags in front of Stephan and even offered him some.

Sofie 11:55 Animal diet is Stefan's disicion not Lexi's. He was in control around her with human blood remember 1x8 she offered him human blood . That with animal blood happened later

Thing is with caroline because in the book she was purey written as te loser rival of elena she was designed as a blank slate to be mean controling and make elena look good all her flawss in the first season were down to the books not developing her as a main character making her a vampire was a smart decition by the show as it aloud them to take a blank character and be creative with her ake her somone u want to root for she no longer the stereotyical rival that the books created her as no longer just their to make others look better she is her own character and thats just a beauty of how the show improved on hef

lol i agree except for the fact that just because you have a 'rival'/'villian' it doesn't mean the sole purpose is to 'make a character look better' they kind of needed a more human antagonist instead of it being just supernatural creatures all the time because there was less council stuff/john gilbert etc. like the show they needed some high school drama because it was high school

Honestly i hated elena here, how she judged stefan for feeding on that women. She needs to understand he is a vampire he need to learn how to feed normally otherwise he will go back to his ripper self. Honestly i loved stefan and Damon's brother bond here.

@@Dagenspear because he is a vampire and if he doesn’t learn to control it eventually like always something, somehow is going to happen and then he will become the ripper again but he if learns to control it. He can live his life drinking from blood bags and no fear of falling of the edge into ripper territory

@@Dagenspear she needs to understand that he has to to control himself. He has been trying to avoid drinking human blood and because of that if he drinks it by accident things happen. If he learned to control his ripper side early instead of running away from it. He wouldn’t be going through all the trouble he is going through right now. And elena needs to understand that. She should know Stefan doesn’t want to do it but he has no choice .the other options is to go back on his animal diet but how long will that last? The longer he stays on it the further he falls when he eventually tastes human blood.
