This has always been overlooked, that Klaus knew Katherine was on verbane, and that Stefan would see to it that once freed, she wouldn't go far. Klaus knew Katherine was always following and protecting Stefan yet did nothing about it. Just as he knows, even though she's free of Klaus, her feelings for Stefan will keep her close by, no matter what the risks are to her. When Klaus calls the "True Ripper" magnificent, it tells just how dangerous and sadistic Stefan can be. Afterall, if the most powerful original is impressed that speaks volumes....

The fact Emily literally admitted she owes Damon in Season 1x9... Then only ever acts like Damon is the Enemy... Damon is the reason her bloodline still exists... In short Damon is the reason Bonnie was born!!!!!

Damon doesn't want Elena to forgive him just because he is dying. He also doesn't want her to know he is dying for trying to save her and her friends.....

I don’t think this was the writers’ intention, but when I think about it, Damon’s insistence to not tell Elena results in less pain for him; Elena will still experience loss, and it will be even more of a traumatic shock, BUT Damon won’t have to deal with it. It also incidentally results in more danger for everyone including Elena, however that is arguably on Stefan, as Damon’s plan appeared to be a swifter death. (Note: I blame the writers more for this than the characters, even though the characters are direct products of the writers lol. As in, I assume the characters are supposed to be “well-intended” in this regard.) Also, great reaction per usual!
