The Van Conversion Is Finished! Self Build Camper Van Conversion For Dummies Part 7
In this van conversion video, we finish the van ready for our first BIG trip. We started our day finishing off a job we had been putting off for a while - finishing off our heating system - so we can now use our diesel heater on the road! We also wanted the ability to live off-grid when we need to so one of our bigger and more terrifying jobs was to install our solar panel on our pop top roof, which involved cutting a hole in our campervan roof! We also add the inverter for on-the-road charging and some homely touches, making it ready for our first real vanlife series coming soon!

Emma - when the world gained a travel blogger, it lost a hell of a Blue Peter presenter. You even used double-sided sticky tape! Also, very pleased to hear you like Nat Geo Traveller (and hopefully NGT Food). Apparently, one of the sub editors there is a really great guy (although he looks like a hoover, which is a bit strange). And Alex, your acting in the Readly intro was pure Hollywood. You need to get in front of the camera more!

You don't have to tell me Alex, I can definitely say that Emma is doing an awesome job! I'm going to be you when I get a van and it's so encouraging to see a woman who has never attempted a job like this to just go at it and actually get it done and make things work. Like you, I will team up with someone who has the tools and knowledge to help guide me but still it will be a challenge doing it for the first time and I will be nervous about drilling that first hole. Hi Guys, nice work on your conversion. One very important comment: If you use any combustion stove or heater inside or even around your van (like in an attached awning) definitely install a carbon monoxide alarm. They are cheap and can safe you from dying in your sleep. A must have in my book. CO has no odor and is lighter than air so the alarm must be installed high somewhere near the ceiling. Hey Emma, suggesting a small little detail. turn the heater outlet cover to vertical instead of horizontal cause less dust will be accumulated in the long run. btw, great job. Cheers!

Cutting a 90mm hole in the roof for a fan also needed a pilot hole. So I bought a cobalt drill bit after research. It went through in less than a second and pulled me downwards. To top it off, the drill bounced off the roof. I think I lost 5lb at that moment.
