Reason the other albums weren’t included is because they specifically did this as the Sammy Hagar era box set so Van Halen 3 and A Different Kind of Truth just really wouldn’t have worked. I get what you’re saying though about getting those released, they do need an official release.

Personally I like a decent booklet in a boxset. Otherwise what’s the point- just release standalone albums.

There is no way 3 is better than OU812! There are so many hits on this album…I’ve tried to listen to 3 again recently, but just couldn’t get past the lyrics, production, or Gary and Eddie vocals and lack of Anthony.

The digital streaming version sounds just like the low volume versions that have been available for years. Very disappointing.

I got both box sets DRL YEARS WAS $229 I got BOX 2 $129 just wish they all had poly sleeves but I bought poly sleeves for both boxes but I m happy to have the both collections

I pre-ordered as well and on Unlawfully Carnal Knowledge, I had a feel able scratch on side one. I sent the box set back and Amazon got me a new one out in one day. The replacement box set had no scratches. I think they did a nice job and the price for what you get is excellent. Those albums were a little difficult to get out of the sleeves and only Rarities had a poly lined sleeve. Considering that the MoFi pressing of Van Halen the David Lee Roth years will be $125.00 each, this box set is a steal, especially if you pre-ordered and got it at $105, like I did as well. Like you said the last two albums, especially Balance are nearly impossible to get unless you are willing to pay through the nose for them. I had all of the original albums except the last two. My local shop had Balance for $300.00.

Nice. I've been listening to it on the the streaming services and the remasters sound great. I really can't agree about III being better than OU812, I am very glad they left that out haha. I think III is an absolutely awful record. I think OU812's biggest problem was the recording. Michael Anthony was nearly inaudible on the original mix. You can hear him much better now on the remaster.

Please let me know if you have any of the issues some are running into (myself with 2 copies). The distorted channel on 316 and some unwanted distortion on FU side B. If not, let me know where you ordered from and I will probably try that route. Thanks in advance!

Was glad to get the box...wish they could have 'stretched' out OU812 and Balance to include "A Apolitical Blues" and "Baluchitherium" respectively and make those double LP's. BUT that's being too critical..Ha! Overall its really nice to have the Hagar era in a set! Maybe they should do a bigger box that has all the VH albums including 'III' and "A Different Kind Of Truth"?

Looks like a great box set! I’m not the biggest VH fan, but I still might pick this one up. I’m glad to see a box set not packed with a bunch of useless stuff. lol

The vinyl pressing of Van Halen “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge” from the latest box set has a mastering/pressing flaw which causes horrible distortion and the right channel dropping out on “Poundcake”, “Right Now”, “316” and “Top Of The World”. I and a lot of people are having this same issue. Some have returned copies and received replacements which do the exact same thing. It has to be a problem with the stamper. If so, the entire run will be problematic and a new lacquer will probably need to be cut again. It’s very noticeable if you were to pull a copy and play it yourself - especially on “316”. If possible, listen critically, with headphones.

I've been through 3 copies now and mine have all had the same issue. I contacted Rhino to see if they could be of any assistance. I hate to think of how much of a pain this must be on the smaller record stores not to mention us consumers with dealing with sending it back etc.. Here's the canned response I received. "Thank you for contacting us. We ask that any purchases made outside of our online store be returned or exchanged at the point of purchase. Thank you for your feedback. Your comments have been noted and sent to our team to be looked into, and we appreciate you reaching out to us."

@@Stratman5150I’ve experienced the same, unfortunately, and I haven’t seen any formal acknowledgment of the issue published anywhere. A couple of replies to this posting on other channels claim to not have experienced the issues most of us have. Not sure if those accounts are 100% transparent. It stands to reason that if the lacquer, from which the stampers are made, was bad, then anything produced from those bad stampers would be affected. Unless there were multiple lacquers from which multiple stampers were produced. One could argue that pressing runs sourced from the good lacquers/good stampers were fine and those sourced from bad lacquers and bad stampers were bad (hence some folks reporting clean, unaffected copies). It would be helpful if at some point the label reveals the source of the widespread problem. Anyhow, I went ahead and returned 2 defective copies. At this point, it just isn’t worth the trouble. Besides, all the albums in the box set have UPC codes, which means that at some point Warner/Rhino will break them out to sell individually. And hopefully by then, they will have sorted out the issue with not only “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge”, but with any other affected titles. The downside is that the ‘rarities’ LP in the box set will likely not be available individually (although I can’t recall is that one had a UPC code on the jacket - if it does, then they may make it available individually). I’m also hoping MoFi jumps on releasing these Sammy-era titles on audiophile grade vinyl, as One Steps, like they’ve done with the DLR-era titles. Although at the rate they’re going with the DLR titles - we have yet to see the first album released, and it was announced maybe two years ago? - it might take years for that to happen, assuming they can secure the licensing from Warner/Rhino.

FWIW.. I worked with Warner Brothers and was told this today "Rhino checked Van Halen THE COLLECTION II (5LP) copies I ordered in & advised the following, regarding the For Unlawful Carnage LP: • the original production on this LP was compressed & distorted by design • any audio anomalies are inherent to the original production & not a result of the reissue pressing I've since asked if that is the case, why is there no distortion on the CD or streaming of 316?

@@Stratman5150 thanks for sharing, Joe. The explanation you were given makes absolutely no sense, precisely because of the logic you cited. Moreover, I have two original pressings of the compact disc, and the distortion they talk about, is not present on those copies, nor have I ever heard from anyone that they’ve experienced that issue. Warner/rhino is feeding you a bunch of BS. With that said, I just returned the box set and claimed my refund from Amazon. I’m through dealing with this issue. The silver lining is that I also purchased the collection on CD, and, like you say, none of the issues they talk about are present on any of the albums.

If Truth was in the DLR era box, I would have bought one, but didn't since I already have the first 6 on multiple formats. Keep VH3 and the live albums separate. Printed sleeves are not lined.

Yeah, but printed sleeves have less friction and cause less scuffing than paper sleeves. I think adding VHIII and A Different Kind of Truth to this box would have been a great way to round out the VH discography. I don’t think there’s enough material to put together a third box set.

VH III and ADKOT have no reason to be in the VH The Collection II boxset. This is specific to Sammy Hagar only. I have a feeling they'll release something that will include those two albums.

Maybe, but unless they are going to release a ton of unreleased content, I don’t think they have enough remaining material to do a third box set.

Fantastic value for a Van Hagar fan, but once again, except for the rarities album, the records are not in polylined inner sleeves. The static was so bad, they were virtually stuck to the inner sleeve and had to be thoroughly cleaned before playing.

Van Halen IIII does not belong to the Hagar era. That is why it doesn't belong on that box 😊.But I hope they release it on vynil in the future. My box came damaged. All inserts were ripped open on the sides and bottom. I had to return it and now I am waiting for my replacement

I get it that it isn’t a Hagar album, but it would have been nice to have all 12 VH albums included in just two box sets. Hopefully we’ll get VHIII on vinyl sooner rather than later.

Paper sleeves. Only the rarities disc is on poly-lined inner sleeves. I lucked out and copy sounds great.

I would have definitely preferred poly lined sleeves on all the other albums, but I’m ok with printed inners. They cause way less damage than those junk paper sleeves.

I brought the CD version. Sounds fantastic. Yea they could of included VH3 to round it off. But it's all bout making money. So I'm sure it will come in the future.
