Cool box set. The reason for the no brown m&m condition in the rider was to ensure promoters read the entire contract ider. If the band walked into the dressing room, and they saw the m&m bowl with brown ones in it, they would refuse to go on stage until the stage was fully inspected by an engineer or health and safety rep to make sure the stage was safe to use. Earlier in the bands career, promoters would cut corners which almost lead to injuries to band members and their crew.
I see somebody covered the brown M&Ms. It actually had a purpose. Thanks for the video it comes at a perfect time for me. I was raising my family in the 80s and 90s and put my albums away for about 20 years. So I missed out on this group of albums for sure. A lot of Tom Petty‘s albums in the later years. So I was thankful for that box set. I checked the prices of these records on the secondary market, so this is a no-brainer for me. Especially the second set. Thanks again.
Awesome box set, one of the things that I have always enjoyed about your channel is your appreciation for some of these classic hard rock bands. Even though I know all of these albums very well I haven’t always been a big Van Halen fan, I have come around though!
My mini ranking for the classic Van Halen albums would be 6. 1984 5. Diver Down 4. Fair Warning 3. Van Halen II 2. Van Halen 1. Women And Children First
Another excellent set for the collection there Darcy. Looks like they've done a good job with it and it's nice to have all the Roth era in one box. Those first few albums they did are awesome. Enjoy spinning.
Hi Darcy!!1 so cool to see you adding that killer boxset to the collection..... i only have two OG VH and 1984 a later reissue of VH II and two old argentinean pressing of "Fair..." and "Women...." and yes i would really love to get both boxsets and the live one too..... cheers and be well
You could not be more right about VH’s debut being ahead of it’s time. Eddie’s guitar tone and sound on that album has yet to be matched today. It’s just unreal. Unreal for 2023, yet alone 1978. Looks like a top tier set for sure. I like Van Halen, own nothing, but probably will eventually, you know how that goes lol. Great set brother. Stay heavy. 🤟🤟
Can't believe i am still behind on Van Halen. The only albums in my collection are Balance, A Different Kind of Truth, a single and a best of if i recall correctly. Now the collector in me wants more 😂. Great update as always. Have a great week my friend 🍻.
You should give For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge another try, such a great album! A little extra cheese on some of the lyrics, but who gives a f#%k! Have a great weekend brother 🤘
Thanks for the unboxing Darcy. This is on my radar and definitely getting the Sammy box. I’m not surprised the new ones sound better, they were cut from the original analogue tapes by one of the best in the industry - Chris Bellman at the Grundman mastering studios. Cheers.
Just remember when I say that it sounds better, it’s by the slimmest margin. I’m confident that the sound on original pressings is more than adequate. I’m really looking forward to the Sammy era set! Thanks brother 🤘
I have both the Roth set and Hagar set and love them. I have the Ratt, Dokken, Motley Crue and Skid Row sets as well (all vinyl) and these things are addictive lol.
When you love a band like Van Halen you can't help owning multiple copies of these albums. I recommend the book VAN HALEN RISING. Very good book about the band's beginnings.
Awesome review, definitely going to pick this one up and the Sammy boxset. Love “Me Wise Magic” too, the last great Roth song with VH, in my opinion. Also, go see Sammy Hagar and the Circle if you can, Hagar and Anthony are the only ones still carrying the VH flag and playing their songs. Saw Sammy last Jan and Michael Anthony was singing on “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love” and it was awesome!!!
There was some good tunes on A Different Kind Of Truth but you can sure hear that Mike wasn’t there! Love Me Wise Magic, those backing vocals can’t be beat! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching 🤘 Have you seen juniors grades :))
Great Dave era box set 🤘lots of people will be hanging out for the Sammy era box to come out but I’m only missing Balance so I’ll wait till they do them individually hopefully
There’s this one shop that I visit when I’m out of town, they had a OG of Balance, the guy said it sold for $300 Canadian, yeah no thanks lol. Cheers DVD 🤘
This box set is made by GZ Media. They’re the largest record plant employing 2000 people. A perfect example of their work is Mark Knopfler’s “Down The Road Wherever.” Our copy was perfectly flat, dead quiet and the audio was superb. It also was in our Top 5 Vinyl Albums of 2018 and one of the best records Knopfler ever put out.🎧
They did a great job on this set for sure! There is one thing I should of mentioned, the vinyl should be packaged outside the jacket, I know that’s easier said done with box sets. The weight of some of these records shifting around in transit causes some bad seam splits, mine where in good shape, but I’ve heard some complaints. Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
There seems to be an awful lot of boxsets coming out these days doesn’t there… & that’s another that looks nicely done! ‘Van Halen’ were a huge gateway band for me in my youth & one I still like to listen to today! Like wearing a comfy pair of slippers, lol!🤘🏻
First off it’s very good to here from you my friend, hope your doing good. Yes you need to buy that for yourself, great birthday gift you’re going to love! Cheers Tim 🤘
Nice video! I initially missed out on the box set so I ended up buying them individually (Walmart.) Now I wish that I waited because I just preordered the Collection II, and it would be nice seeing those matching boxes on the shelf. Speaking of influence, have you ever seen the Jimi Hendrix logo that “inspired” the classic VH logo? 🍻
I had to look up that Jimi Hendrix logo because I don’t think I’ve ever seen it, wow that’s so cool! Time to sell those Walmart copies and get the box, you’ll sleep better 😂 Cheers my friend
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 You might be right. Time to sell 🤦🏻♂️🤣. VH’s ex-manager, Noel Monk, wrote a book called “Runnin with the Devil” super interesting. He talks a bit about the logo.
The m&m story is about the venues not doing their jobs if the brown m&ms where there what else did they not do. It was sort of a check to see if they were doing their jobs correctly
I always try my best to get back to as many people as possible, but I’ll be honest it gets a little overwhelming at times, so many awesome people I’ve met 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 your reviews are great. It's the honestly in them I love. Anyway hello from Northern Ireland. Goes to show that your channel has a worldwide following 🤟🏼✌️
I was waiting for you to tell me how many times you got to see Van Halen live. I only got to see them once, November 1991, awesome show! Cheers William 🤘
I have the cd production of this Daimond years Edward lodewijk ( rip ) and Alex VANHALEN HOLLAND STILL CANT BELIEVE YOU WHERE ONE OF US ,MR. JAN VANHALEN WAT EEN TOP CREATIES HOLLAND HOU VAN JULLIE, Big bad bill is....naar de usa verhuist ❤afz, Peter Van de Bor jullie vriend BOR777 😇👍🌍
I´m not a fan of the band and I only know 0U812 from way back then. Boxset looks nice though. I´m thinking about the W.A.S.P. one... I said I would not buy the Sabbat boxset...well, ahhhh, I did. Damn, hahaha.... Oh, and you asked why I sell Accept´s double live album. Well, it´s purely a CD album for me. I never listen to the album at home but a lot in the car. Perfect driving music!
I really don’t think Van Halen ended up being a big deal in other countries, they had their most success in North America. So I understand! Yes, you’re gonna need that WASP set haha, those albums are awesome, who can resist those cheesy lyrics 🤣
Hi, Darcy! Very good video! Congratulations! I love Van Halen. And if I may ask you a question, from another band with "V", do you like Venom? I'm more into NWOBHM, Hard/Prog/Power/Thrash/Speed. I don't have anything about Black or Death. But recently, I found a very rare Venom CD - Possessed - here in my country, for an affordable price. I just haven't bought it yet, because the letters bother me. Are you bothered by the themes of certain bands? Do you let this affect you or not when collecting?
First off thank you very much! I do like Venom, I only own a box set that contains their first 4 albums, which does include Possessed. Possessed is actually my least favourite of the four albums, try Black Metal first, that’s my favourite & don’t let the album title put you off! I’m not a fan of black metal the genre, it’s never been my cup of tea, the vocals are way too screechy lol. To answer your question, no not much bothers me, if I like the music that’s the main focus, the lyrics and themes I can deal with. Sorry for the long reply, hope that helps 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Hi Darcy. Do you think you are going to buy the Dio colored vinyl box set? I see on a lot of photos it looks like the Anja ep is included but it is actually Electra which also came with Magica. I also bought the reussues on black vinyl.
I really don’t need it but I want it lol, I’m a sucker for a nice box set! I’m just hoping the price drops a little bit. So to answer your question stay tuned 😂
Hahaha......I was always amazed that the lyrics on the back of the Fair Warning inner sleeve were backwards as well.....lol W.A.C.F. was the lighter green..... So the new issue is correct.
