parents had an 87 astro van as their work vehicle..we put almost 300k on that little van in 5 years..went all over the place..went thru 2 transmission rebuilds and an engine rebuild..

We raced our van to the bracket finals..... with a full-size bed in the back, curtains, pillows, comforters, tuck-n-roll padded walls, suitcases, and the such. Van Life !!!! 😊

He is doing pretty well, I am up around the 70 mark without writing them all down and counting them , not counting the motorcycles and things like that. I never had a business or bought and sold them, i built and drove and traded for the next one just to have something to drive. I have only ever owned one new vehicle and it was a truck in 1995. It was a new style RAM with a 318 5 speed and the single cab short bed. Had the goofiest tire size on it from the factory. It had 275 /70R16 tires and Michelin tires none the less. That thing smokes more than my diesel! LOL I love it. I drove my street racer all the time too but I admit the time I was in Kansas city and broke the pinion off and had to call a buddy to drive 10hours to get me with a trailer I decided I probably needed to trailer mine to the track when it was far off.

You could go to town AND go to town in that thing! Put some 3.73s in that with a 2800 stall.

We had an Astro growing up…we took that thing everywhere and it was actually a lot better van than I gave it credit for back in the day. I loved that it had a cooler on each side of the rear seats. Great vid!

My brother ran a stubby Astro with a strong 350 in it. He had a edelbrock tbi manifold on it with a holley 670cfm throttle body and a spacer. It had shorty header and dual 2.5 had a custom tune for the cam and it ran well. It was lowered 4" and had a body kit. It hooked hard and got out of hole good. It would run with 5.0 fox bodys at the time for the 1/8th anyhow. Surprised a lot of people.

Turbo it and make it a sleeper Cyclone with the 4.3.

Hit up market place and find a 5.3/4l60e combo. There's no way I'm going to put a 1000 dollars into a 305, and another 1000 into a 700r4. Honestly, if nothing else build the 4.3, with some vortec heads it would make more power than the 305... and it would be cool to have a fast'ish v6, rather than a slow v8
