Wow so much nostalgia. I use to watch your channel all the time back in 2014, but I got out of watching bloggers. But today I saw your video in suggested so figured I’d take a look. You’ve come so far these past 5 years. It’s so interesting to see you have a studio, smooth product shots, good mic and stable camera on the bike. I just remember you having to yell on that old go pro. Good times lol Great to see you doing so well 5 years later!
Just got the new version to replace my original Variant. The main thing I immediately noticed was how difficult it is to get my head into the helmet. Same size (large) as my old one, but much smaller, much tighter fit. Once my head is in, it feels OK, but it’s a tight squeeze. The opening of the new helmet is about 1.5” smaller diameter than my old one.
I cant find any videos so i come to the man the myth the legend. C2W. How is the variant as far as wind goes on the MT07 or other naked bikes? Ive heard neck snapping torque and other negatives but at the same time I hear people that dont complain about it.
So when I saw Chase wearing the original Icon Variant I really liked the look. I ordered one and did not really like the the helmet. My issues were #1, no speaker pockets to speak of, when I installed the speakers from my uClear system they were right up against my ears...and fitment. I found the Icon tight across the temples for my particular noggin. I tried to persevere with this helmet so as to "break it in" but this never happened. So my big take away here is to go one size up if you order this helmet...and a question in my mind for Chase is; does it have speaker pockets?
i recently went into a Honda dealer in Paris and they had also some gear in the back. I just wanted to try some helmets to see what size i need and stuff. the guy there said: if the pressure around your head is not even, the helmet will always be like that and you´re not gonna like it. if its a bit tight on the cheeks, its no problem, that will wear itself in, but not around the top of your head. Also regarding the size he said: put your hands together and push against the back of the helmet. If you can fit a finger between helmet and forehead, its too big.
So the icon variant is on “close out” for $189 and the icon variant PRO is $375 Are the upgrades worth the extra $200 or should I just get the icon variant! I ride a grom!
I just got my icon variant "quicksilver" on closeout for $200 shipped through revzilla. It came with both clear AND a dark smoke visor. You cant beat that price for helmet and visors and the quicksilver edition looks great in person and not to flashy.
Aaron T I agree I got the same one! I was able to get 10% at cycle gear so mine was around 180 what A great deal. It’s alittle tight getting it on and off with that chin curtain tho I just took it off and it’s much better!
I changed the visor once on my variant and it messed it up. Considering getting the pro mow. I loved the variant but was disappointed in material quality.
I have the first Variant and want to get the Pro. I'm curious if the wind noise is any better in the new one. I love the look but the original is quite loud.
With The Variant pro making a comeback. Compared to the now popular Ruroc atlas, which would you go to if you had the 300/400 bucks to spend on one of those too. Or would you spend it on a different helmet altogether?
@@chaseontwowheels Coming from a dude that build his channel with the Variant that shows how awesome the ruroc is. I hear there is a lot of issues with noise on the ruroc? Is it not that bad people on internet are making it to be?
The Atlas is a louder helmet but if you make sure your chin curtain is installed correctly it cuts down on a large amount of it. The helmet is made to funnel a ton of wind to the rider and with wind comes noise.
The new Ruroc doesn’t have the ability to use a flip up visor and a peak. You have to wear goggles with the new one. That’s a deal breaker for me. I need a flip up visor and a peak. That’s why I use a Shark Explorer Carbon R. But, I may switch to this Icon when I need a new helmet.
hey chase, are you going to review that rev it torque jacket you got on in the video? I'm considering buying it for next summer and would like to know your opinion on it!
I've been waiting for this for a loooooong time. Looks nice BUT the price... The price should have been half of the old one for what this helmet is... And no sun vizor, rly? Gonna buy another old version as they are going on sale since this one came out.
I'm gonna pass..i have the older variant (solid gloss white), it looks cool but it's falling apart QUICK. Way too much effort on aestetics, not as much quality. It's an instagram helmet, looks cool and it's good for slow cruising/stunt riding..Also, those 2 slits in the back?? wtf are those for?!
I have had my older variant 6 years and it is almost as new, very solid. The visors in my opinion get ruined the quickest of all the lids I have. I have an Airflite and that is just garbage, so loud. Believe it or not some shit got in my eye with the visor fully closed. It lets in so much wind it swirled crap around in it got got in my EYE. How??????????????? :)
Spoiler on the back is way too far down. Variant 1 got that right. Plus the original is nice and smooth sexy, not trying too hard to be "aggressive" by being angular. Original > Pro
It’s better than the original. Less downward pressure on my neck and shoulders. Still a bit of a pull when you check your blind spots. I love it though.
Gen 1 variant is heavy, have cheap plastic air vents and the visor is sh*t. Considering the price of icon helmets it's about time to improve it's build quality, all they care about is graphics and colors.
Not a fan of the look of the pro. The exhaust wing looks like it has erectile disfunction unlike the older one that was proped up and looked strong. Even the chin bar looks flat. Just ordered the variant. Icon should keep making the older one for a lower price because this new one lowers the bar for that signature look. Now this new on looks average.
