Take a backstage tour of this famous Atlanta landmark and see how the Gordy family continues to serve thousands daily without sacrificing quality and sticking to nearly 90 year old family recipes.
I’m 71 and have not lived in Atlanta in decades but I have a pic of my dad as a high- schooler with his pals at the Varsity before he went off to fight in WWII.
One interesting tid bit of information the video did not relate was that Mr. Gordon way back in the day when The Varsity was young had to order Coke Cola from the Coke plant down the street which back in the day came in the form of thousands of coke glass drink bottles and that was a every day thing and business at The Varsity got so busy that The Coke factory plant down the street could not keep up with The Varsity's demand for Coke Cola soft drinks. So Mr. Gordon and Coke Cola plant down the street from The Varsity worked together to invent the "Coke Cola Fountain drink machines", so that The Varsity could have plenty of Coke Cola on demand for it's customers that LOVED Coke Cola soft drink. Personally I love the old curb side style Drive-in restaurant part of The Varsity. In my home town we have a Drive-in restaurant still in operation that dates back to the early 1940's before World War 2 started that still looks the same way it did when it was first built. Best BBQ sandwiches and Onion rings in town.
A company like this seems interesting, I wonder what long term potential it could have, looking at something like Just Eat if it were in America there could be a lot much more opportunity?! What if they did a UK franchise?
They have some junior Varsity location across Georgia, but they don’t want to expand across the nation and out of the country, because they want everything done a certain way. They fear that they couldn’t control all the restraunts enough if there were hundreds of locations.
What can yu say, boiled hot dogs suck. That guy is right about one thing, the ice makes a difference. Chipped ice, just like a fountain Coke. Too bad they don't mix it from syrup like at a soda fountain. C'mon, stop the jive, canola oil is much cheaper then peanut oil. If you fry it, they'll eat it.
So what's he saying about the ice is in the end you end up with a lot less drink. No space between the ice for the pop. I always ask for no ice. Get more drink for your buck.
THE FIRST.AND THE.LAST TIME I EVER WENT TO THE VARSITY,NEXT TO THE HIGHWAY.SOMETHING SHOULD'VE TOLD ME,BY THE TRASH IN THE PARKING LOT....AND...THEN...THERE WAS,MORE TRASH,ON THE FLOOR IN THE RESTAURANT!!!!!!!!!!-
