It was a little convoluted to get signed up (without paid membership) but if you click through without going for trial membership, it gives you a free week membership. I might need it later if I get my 1998 Cherokee running well again. Long story but it dies when going over a bump. Not NSS or any of the other typical issues, since virtually all sensors and other items have been replaced with Mopar parts. I'm going to check the fuel cutoff that's under the back seat and/or the fuel punp wiring as it seems to be like a short or open wire somewhere. Best of luck with the Ulimate Adventure!
@Robert Mclaren ya love ur style yrs. Always wanted 1. Had a 97 jimmy but should of got a pickup. Had others too but 87 s10 blazer & 89 reg cab s10. Colts is kinda hard to find an ext cab in those yrs thats good. Def got lucky. would love to have 1 any from 87 to 00.
I had an '03 ZR S10 pickup. I loved that little truck. Stock I took it off roading Nothing to extreme, since I needed to get home with it. Then while I was crossing the intersection an 18 year old kid in a Jeep made a left turn at the same intersection, and T-BONED my S10! It may have been the 4" steel pipe for a front bumper, or the fact that he was shot out of a cannon!!!! But he totaled my truck! And made me not care for teenagers driving Jeeps!!!
Colt knows how to build good, strong and capable on a budget. Looking forward to watching all of this build. I like the S-10 even though I go to BleepinJeep for the Cherokee content. I like affordable too.
Chevy s10 , Been there done that , got the T shirt . Would still have if not for being T boned by dunk driver . 4.3 loved it . absolutely dependable as far as I was concerned . It never let me down , never left me stranded . Until hit on drivers side by a new V.W. bug doing 60 M.P.H.
19:25 That Braun (Harbor Freight) flashlight on the roof is probably the best flashlight I have ever owned. I have leftover 18650 batteries and a charger from when I vaped and it is so quick and easy to just pop a new battery in when the one gets low. And at 19:54 I can see yours has the same modification my first one had, professional reinforcement using none other than....tape. It looks like you used electrical, I used Gorilla Duct tape. Love that stuff.
My first vehicle was an '84 s10, and 15 year old me wanted it to be a sick off-roader. I've never been more stoked to see my high-school dream come to life.
I knew it’d be an s10! I bought the extended cab brand new since 92-2012 put 311k on it out side of starter alternator and water pump 1 tranny all I ever did was spill er and fill er. I’ve seen guys make awesome rigs outta these things! Excited for the build!
I'd say the S10 was a great choice for the same reasons, all kinds of parts are available. Might be some fun watching this alteration. The HVAC blower motor speeds are controlled by a resistor which is usually the fault when it comes to blower fan speed issue. Get a new OEM part from Rockauto or a known good aftermarket resistor and change it out. If that not the issues, its likely the fan control switch. There is a method to diagnose/pretest this so that you only buy one part to fix it and its likely something to do while you are figuring out what is wrong with the blend doors...those older ones work on vaccum hoses. Could be the control unit or hoses vs. a blend door problem but it also could be just trash built up inside the HVAC case.
We used to buy rollover vehicles and put new bodies on them. We did this with Chevy and GMC Blazers, Jimmies and S-10’s. We put LS engines in many. There’s an enormous “dismantling” facility in Akron Ohio. Used to be “Triplett ASAP” We paid their mechanic to remove bolts and electrical connections vs. cutting them. They would put the interior fasteners in one 5gal bucket, then body mounts/bolts were in another bucket. We would get back to our shop and lay it all out as a “do it yourself” s-10! It always amazed me how we simply took one body off a rollover and purchased a “test” vehicle that simply had holes where “monitoring or testing equipment was mounted”. I’ll be following the build and supporting you all way. Those were the best looking wheels from that Chevy era. Maybe the “BBS” looking GMC Jimmy wheels 😊
Finally more people hopping on the s10 train. Mine is on leaves front and rear. 44/60 both locked. Currently I’m swapping in a nv3500. The 4l60e only lasted 15,000 miles with big axle and tires 😂😂
Used to have a CJ with a 99 Vortec 4.3L 4l60 and Atlas tcase.... was a great combo on stretched chassis set up for 40's before 40's were cool.... (actually has 39.5 Superswampers) and also why I am building a 01 ZR2 Blazer for my "extreme" streetable crawler.... they are a great base and 4WD and ORD makes a long arm kit based on the TJ or JK link geometry
Currently drive a stock 93 S10 Ext Cab 4x4, 155,xxx miles on the 4.3 and you could balance a penny on it runs so smooth. Does have some little problems like a leak somewhere in the cooling system and power steering leaks and shifts hard in 1st gear but it starts better then any of my friends trucks that are 20 years newer.
Nate is an absolute monster on this topic. You guys are gonna have your hands full, but I also know how capable and knowledgeable you are, so I don't discount Bleepin Jeep as one of the best competitors there. Looking forward to the build and the event videos!!! 🤙
Run some Hot Shot's Secret stiction eliminator through that old engine (full dose or a little more) to get it cleaned up inside and running well (for that part). :) I'd definitely do it for an old engine I had no history on. It works in diesel engine oil or gas engine oil but was designed to fix sticking diesel fuel injectors (the oil side) for big rigs and it has been working great there for owners (International asked for it as an OEM but it's for sale of course to anyone now).
Got my vote all the way. S-10 is way cool! Just one thing. You have to have a milk crate strapped down with a bungie cord in the bed. Never seen one with out it.
Dad had a 1984 s10 that he bought new and drove the piss out of it, lots of hunting and construction work. He had the trans rebuilt with full size truck parts and kept driving it until well after he retired when he bought a 91(?) and drove that forever and still had the '84. I want to get the '84 from him and make a hunting truck out of it, lift kit, engine changes, etc. He wouldn't sell it to me sohe sold it off to someone else. Now he has a Colorado from the last gen and still has the '91.
My 98 year old great grandma taught me to drive in one exactly like that, except it was charcoal grey. It went more like " granny's tired, you're getting us home, I have my boys to driver me around now". I was about 11 years old then. Manual transmission and all. She lived about 10 miles down a dirt road in Louisiana and you had to do two large creek crossings to get to her farm. I have pictures of about 12 or 13 family members riding in the bed of it going down to the river in the 90's. I got my license in that truck years later and used to do more hardcore off-roading in that thing stock than I did in any of my built rigs I feel like. LOL.
Colt, nothing but respect for Matt BUT I prefer to watch you do stuff on your two's channel. I also had a 91 chevy s-10 2wd with the 2.5 4 banger and 2 cherokees. Love what you do.
That’s going to a really difficult decision to vote with the competition you guys are going against, but hey much love to the winner. 🎉 Anyways that was a good joke on the feud. 😂
The S-10 is my go to , I have Built many of these, They are awsome on a K5 blazer frame, i even put a commanchee on a K5 blazer frame ,ill be watching rhw build its going to be cool, Godbless
I had a 1990 extended cab 4x4 S-10 with a 4.3 and 5 speed, I loved that thing, it drove through everything from sand to mud to snow and never got stuck. I spent months looking for another one when that truck was totaled by a drunk driver but was never able to find another one in anywhere near the condition or price.
Thanks for this video. I'm building a "project" and definitely will need to re-do some body mounts. You just showed me that my idea will work, slightly different but close to what I will need to do.
This is going to be not just an epic, also a fun build , you and Matt will have a blast, I sold a few hundred of these trucks in various forms from late 80's to mid 90's when they brought out the new body style, your powertrain is strong and the only achilles heel is the front axle, yes great on road manners, off road it definitely has its limits, guess you might swap in a Dana 44 high pinion ,although they may be a bit too pricey, I had customers drive these trucks everywhere you could think of and they had as much as 400k kilometres, 1/4 million miles with the 4.3 V6 with the 700R4, there was nothing that could touch it in the day for reliability or longevity , Dakotas always shit the bed, i must of taken a dozen or more on trade that needed trans and transfer cases, i will follow this build each and every episode, I had that basic truck you have there from new in 1993 from the dealership i worked for, i factory ordered it and drove it 2 years and 50k miles, always got 30mpg highway with cruise at 100 kph, had to sell it, i got what i paid for it with my service records and had 6yr ext warranty on it and we used to money as a down payment on a house we had built, I don't miss my ex wife, i do miss that old truck it was great even in 18" of snow, 👍you got my vote
Overlanding and rock crawling. Sounds like the 4WD24-7 boys in Australia. You might be going a bit further with the crawling part though. Some people might not call what they do rock crawling but they are certainly absolutely serious about obstacles and not just overlanding.
You won me over just with getting the s10 I’m a big s10/Sonoma nut I have a newer version but I do love this concept and can’t wait to see it on the trail!!!
The S10 flat bottomed frame is the same reason I loved, built a few Nissan Hardbody TruckS and a 89 2dr Pathfinder back Iin the 90s. They had drive train tucked up unlike the Era Toyotas which have a high frame & short floor body, but drivetrain & exhaust hang down. Lots of pros & cons debate for that generation!
Hell yes about time the ultimate overlanding is awesome I love watching 4×24/7 Australia they overland on rocks sand mud swamps you name it they go where the road takes em or till they can go no farther and they all run mid sized rigs
I believe the s-10 and Comanche share the same bed just different body panels. We have had both an s-10 and Comanche and they looked identical. In fact the Comanche had an s-10 rubber mat that fit perfect.
Hahaha that hat is awesome. 😂😂😂. I live in maine i'll run an extension cord with a small heater fan or a cigerette lighter/aux heater fan to keep my hands warm if i need to wrench outside in tight spots. It helps
Well I an GMC SONOMA 4.3 SLS and my heater motor sings to me just like yours does but the only thing I need to do with mine is replace the motor. Also just encase you want to know there is aftermarket spider 🕷 Injection. And Comp Cams makes different grinds of Cams and vavle springs so there are parts for that engine. Good luck on your build.
First new vehicle I bought was a 1989 S10 2 wheel manual. had it for 11 years never a single problem . Took it off road a lot, just trails but never one issue.
This is going to be fun to watch. I just got a Ranger to build out. I will be watching cause I'm on a budget too. I have a good starting point(98 with 5.0L), but haven't decided where I want to spend my upgrade money yet. The truck was only 500 more than yours.
Glad to see that every coming issue with them it has 😄 🤣 😂 had 2 s10s and 3 blazers that style and always hated the air suction system to lock in four wheel
Even though Nate an Ed are from same state. Gonna have to vote for s10. I currently still drive a 93 around the farm. I think this will be an awesome build series.
I had an '89 GMC S-15 back in the day that was super reliable but never rode as well as a 1/2 ton. I'm already a member of onX offroad so I'll be voting.
This is going to be a sick build! Looking forward to the journey! I remember my uncle teaching me to drive in an S10 just like it. Brings back good memories!
Cheap fix for the blower motor; drill a small hole to access the shaft bearing in the fan motor and shoot in a few drops of zoom spout turbine oil. Did it on my 92 K2500 over 2 years ago and it runs everyday with no sound at all.
Man I’m watching your guys video. I got a 95 GMC jimmy suv 2 door. I wanna make a rock crawler slash over lander out of it. I picked it up for $1300 in 2019. It’s not a popular off road truck but it’s got some caricature to it. I’m on a budget an Im slightly skilled by just a lil. Right now it sits in my garage because I got into an accident with😡. So it’s been sitting for about 2 years. I love off roading I love the outdoors. I hope one day I could get it fixed back up agin.
Hey friendly word. If you guys do any fuel tanks it's less dangerous to work on or around when the tank is full of gas not empty because fumes are way more flammable than the liquid fuel. Love your content and want you to be around for years to come
The 3.9L in the Dakota was an awesome motor. It shares a similar relationship to the 5.9 as the 3.8 does to the 350sb. I had a 93 that i beat the shit out of and then gave it away with 325k on it and yes it still ran great.
Colt I had the GMC version and it had 4.3 it was my do-all truck it even plowed snow, it was great on the ole mountain road and off-roading as well we did wind-up straight axle in front and rear modified leaf springs but it work ok for what it was used for. As always God bless yah from Gaffney South Carolina viewer 🙏❤️💯.
Colt bud if you haven't fixed the vacuum prob CK the main hoses and tees at the rear of the eng also if it has vacuum controlled 4x4 transfer case the hoses at the left rear corner of the eng are very very likely burnt and broken etc ..... and the hose going to the vacuum canister ball good luck
@@bleepinjeep anytime bud I'm a retired mechanic of near 50 yrs so there's a lot of things I have seen and remember on the old vehicles good luck again bud
I can't vote for you because you have Jeep in your channel name, but you by far have the best vehicle of the three for a build. The newer ones were better but those s10s were a very solid start and like you said, very underrated.
Well 1 more time anyway just had my Sonoma Re upholstered. And had my dashboard recapped looks really good. As I was trying to tell you I with an S10 he got a Cam kit from Comp Cams and he also mentioned that you can get spider 🕷 injection 💉 and different sprayer otherwise different CFM and you are still able to run your stock fuel ⛽️ pump hope this gives you some ideas 💡 😊
Wish I could make it to EJS to see you guys it's a little drive for me. I'm just outside Seattle, Lol I did go and vote for you guys ,good luck I'll be following the build. Thanks for the great videos, Look forward to many more!
So speaking of projects, i remember my conversation with Matt at the wrecker games. About the possibility of you guys making one. Might have a candidate for ya, out of Montrose CO.
I basically have the yeorange version of your XJ haha that would be cool to wheel together some time, I just moved to casper wy! Great work fixing up the s10, stoked to see the build! I hope you get the chance to go to ultimate adventure
Don’t forget that che v6 was built by jeep back in the day when they bought the rights to use the v8 and cut the rear off the mold to make the v6 Then Pontiac bought the rights back It was an odd fire engine It’s now known as the 3800 also built into a 4.3 by chev The s10 and many many gm vehicles have the hart of a jeep
