Damn shame... people are so stupid and now have ruined it for the rest of us. I saved an old truck years ago thanks to the Vermont "loophole " and have been LEGALLY enjoying it ever since. Thanks to your video with Uncle Tony's Garage.. I recently tried to save another car, and they are right , it no longer works. They want you to now fill out all the same paperwork and show proof you live in Vermont.

Isn't there some way to get a car registered that was bought without a title because the seller lost it? Statement of facts, lien sale, posting a bond, inspections, vin verification? In CA, they don't even keep records of registered cars and titles if there is no activity for 20 years. There are DMV Services places that are private companies that have authorization from the DMV to do things.

I got two TX titles that way, one on a 1952 Ford, the other a 1965 Chevy. I sold both with clean TX titles its too bad this has closed. I imagine VT made millions of dollars with this. My local PD is really ok with running the vin before I pay for a vehicle to make sure its not stolen (so far none came up hot)

I watched your UTG video and it worked for me. As a matter of fact it still registered in Vermont and I'm in Idaho. I renewed it just a couple of months ago.

I think you covered this subject pretty well and made all your points good. My friend used the process twice successfully on 2 cars in Wis. To bad it had to end, it would be nice if it was just temporary.

Hey did you guys read the statute? You absolutely can still register out of state. You just have to provide a POA for the VIN and sign a line that says you’re allowed to register out of state in your state… which, like, pretty much no states allow, so you get rejected for being incorrect on the document. This isn’t about stolen bikes, it’s about insurance nonsense (insurance companies want to dictate what we drive so they can maximize premiums). I have done the Vermont loophole on three motorcycles. The DMV made soooo much revenue on the loophole they had no reason to close it other than pressure from their state legislature. The Vermont dmv was probably the golden child of the Vermont government agencies because they cost so little in compare to what they generated since they dgaf about inspection. And two of my motorcycles were titled without VIN check in 2021. Just FYI.

I believe another state has opened the title loophole, can't remember which one though.

The Vermont loophole saved my ass when my license was caught in a red tape knot in Texas for two years and I wasn’t allowed to register my motorcycles in my state during that time. Bless the Vermont dmv, they were so easy to deal with and friendly. I’m sure this is none of their fault but just lobbying efforts to legislature from insurance companies.

Was going thru this process for about 2 years I have vermont plates nd registration. 2022 they told me all i need is to pass smog nd vin inspection. Went today to the dmv and they are demanding that i have a vermont title(pink slip) on hand. Do i just ask for a replacement title or what steps should i go forward with Vin is cleared its not stolen I have plates and registration but they wont give me a title unless i have a vermont title

Has anyone found another work around? I bought a 1990 CRX. No title. Bought it from someone who registered it in Cali, im in Oregon….Oregon DMV not helping. Anyone?

The process isnt completely closed, but its more difficult. I understand about half still go through. If it doesn't then you need a form from your local dmv that may not be easy to get.

Years back we used to be able to register cars in Maine that we couldn't get registered in Connecticut due to not passing an inspection. Then they crack down on it said you had to live there so you just got a p.o. box in Maine and had it forwarded to Connecticut. Then they cracked down on that and just started hitting people with tax evasion. Eventually the whole system would change and all you needed was to pass an emissions test or get a VIN verification. So I did the next best thing came became certified to do emissions testing and Vin verifications. I did that for several years and it worked like a charm. If you can't beat em, join em🤷‍♂️😉

So I was 1 of many who saw your Vermont loop hole video and decided to go that route. I attempted to register my 69 dodge dart. I filed in may but it got kicked back. I filled out properly, sent everything back with original check and they cashed it last week. Since they cashed it does this mean I’m clear? Even though they shut this down in July? All my paper work was dated in may or early June so maybe that’s why it went through? Thanks I’m advance I appreciate your content.

It became way too popular with dirt bike riders needing a Street Bike title so they could street register them.

what else was happening was ppl were takin info off other ppl's cars without them knowing registering them under their name and takin loans out against them and so on. they didnt even officially steal the car.

Wonder if it had anything to do with jdm imports coming in. 96 starts obd 2 and some states require the car be plugged in for emissions instead of just an exhaust sniff test. So the best way to get your obd2 car registered was through Vermont. Most of those guys, especially cali guys just leave the cars registered in Vermont. We have a local military base so cops around here dont care about out of state tags either.

VT didn't issue titles at all before 1972 and did not require titles for vehicles over 15 yrs or older. As of January 1 2024 all vehicles registered in VT will need titles. I'm not sure what they will do now that they are requiring titles for all cars of any age and someone tries to title a car that never needed a title.

Looks like bonded titles is all that’s left.
