pure. genius. 10:18 cuz anyone can just pee their pants i did it 5 minutes ago never felt better never felt freer but to do a stinky while talking to a big oscar (kind of) considered actor through the years wouldn't that be a mistake? and wouldn't I. FEEL. LIBERATED. by wearing an a-dult diaper? a-dult diapers to be free to do a stinky
I honestly think, with no exaggeration or hyperbole, that Martin Short might be the greatest and funniest improviser of all time. Watch any of his interviews and his comedic timing is just natural talent that can’t be taught. And Jiminy Glick is his greatest achievement.
One of my favorite lines of his is from an SNL intro where he’s singing a song, and he gets up on a piano, struggles, and says “How does a man sit on a piano? Clearly I don’t know!”
@@jayterra2060 , it's from a classic Christmas episode he did -- S38E10. I believe on streaming services, a lot of it is sadly cut, including the monologue. If you can find the full, uncut episode, it's a banger the whole way through. Usually I watch it every Christmas season.
Its even more subtle than that. Jon Stewart is talking about "filling a hole" while glick stuffs his face with donuts. He's completely unaware of his own addiction while listening to Jon Stewart talk about his addiction, which adds another layer of irony.
"What kind of void was this" with his mouth full of doughnut... considering this was all improvised, that was utter genius... making an incredible joke while knowing Jon would follow through from his lead.
"Have you seen your genitals?" "No but word gets back from those who have" I've seen this video a hundred times but every time I laugh so hard I cry at that line! Comedic genius right there. So quick and on the fly!
Yes! There is no one like Martin Short. His brain works at the speed of light. I love this so much because Gervaise (although I'm a fan) doesn't play nice, and even *he* appreciated Martin's genius.
Ultimate respect to Martin for 5:03. Jon handed him another donut and he just did the ultimate “yes and” like the improv god he is.
I just can't get over how fast Short is on the draw with these quips and comebacks. He's got veteran comedians tossing jokes his way, and he just swats 'em out of the park every time. If you get Mel Brooks laughing so hard that he asks you to give him time to catch his wind, man, you got jokes.
Because he's also a veteran comedian, who has worked alongside these comedians and actors his whole career. They are good friends. He's one of the greats.
@@AlcaniZFilms I know you are trying to compliment him, but your comment makes it seem like any veteran comedian who knows other comedians can do what Marty can do. NOPE
To be he's doing an impression of Skip E. Lowe an.old cable tv Hollywood interviewer who was wrapped up in himself and got every detail about the star wrong and then denied it questioned. Skip crossed with Merv Griffin, a big daytime tv talk show in the 70' s.
I always come back to Jiminy Click. After 30 years of watching comedy, NO ONE has made me laugh as hard as Martin Short doing Glick. It's simply the BEST thing ever.
Dude, I checked out your Rickles video and then spent the following hour watching Rickles clips and laughing. That was on Tuesday. Today I see the news of his passing. Why/how does that happen? Another instance of "the internet-uncanny." In any case, thanks for nudging and reminding me of what a brilliant, funny man he was. RIP
I saw his Rickles video too right before his passing. Sadly I didn't know who he was until that video and had never heard of him. Then that got me to check it out more if his material on RU-vid which of course was excellent.
“Tempting little devil…when you do so something like that…Its a mistake. But its something you gotta do! Ya gotta survive.” The high and low inflections in his voice here are absolutely classic. Kills me.
I love the Jon Sewart interview. He did the first donut completely straight. Jon almost cracked, and then challenged Short with that second donut, and then he goes in with the whole tray. That level of dedication to a stupid joke is legendary.
Jon plays along perfectly by alluding to use of food as a coping mechanism… “AND YOU FELT VULNERA-BUB-LE???” Short as Glick is talent that can run circles around titans of comedy.
The split second before he got the rimshot joke. "What now colon? Rimshot? That's like a shot of.... Something? Up the? Ah, now I get it. But he can't be serious? Is he serious? Really? Really?"
12:56 «Have you seen your genitals in the last few years?» «No, but words get back from those who have... » Man, that's a fast mind!
What's genius about this is that you feel you are watching a totally different person. You are not watching Martin Short. Jiminy Glick is a different person. You have to keep reminding yourself that they are one and the same.
Colin Farrel! I was talking to my wife, Dixie the other day, and she said you weren’t a very good actor, and I agreed with her. Now-now why, why, Colin, why would we both say that?
"Steve Glenn Martin. That's after Glenn Gould."........... "No, it wasn't after him. It's was after my father." "Your father....and his name was?"............. .....Glenn.
Making Mel Brooks laugh so hard he needed a moment to collect themselves has got to feel great as a comedian...like knocking down Muhammad Ali for a standing 8-count
I really like that you included the clip of Martin without makeup explaining the character at the end, lets you appreciate the man behind it all and how talented he is.
Martin Short really shines when he is doing this character. To be able to get THE best of the best comedians to truly laugh doing these interviews is amazing. His quick wit/improv is legendary!
He came out on to a talk show once and the first thing he did was shout at the audience 'stop loving me!' and I lost it. That was my introduction to this genius.
It's interesting how people's perceptions change as they grow and learn and gain new experiences. I remember when I was younger, I was very rigid and didn't like strange, out of the ordinary things. And I couldn't STAND Jiminy Glick. I thought it was the stupidest, unfunniest, most idiotic thing ever. I just now watched this clip and was crying from laughing so hard. This character is pure comic genius. Times sure do change and I'm glad I did too.
Steve: did you see the movie "The Agony and the Ecstasy" about Michelangelo? Glick: I saw Madame X with Lana Turner, and in the background there's a wonderful abstract painting that everyone pretended to care about. and i think that was, a de Kooning.
Canada loves you Martin! This broke me out of a post-pandemic pre-apocalyptic mood. I had to stop and start so many times, truly laughing out loud and missing the next zinger.
This is probably my 10th time or so watching these clips and I’m just realizing how brilliant these jokes are and how brilliant this character is. Truly one of the perfect storms of comedy. He allows the interviewee to be funny while he riffs with them perfectly. He makes it fun and challenging at the same time so they’re up for it. Like when Larry David says “you don’t like the wall?” That has to be the most tailor-made setup in comedy history. Just perfect. Martin is incredibly smart and funny.
Hands down, the absolute funniest person in the world! I am honored to also be from Canada as he is. I've heard that he is also a really nice person who treats strangers warmly and is not stuffy at all like other celebs. Would love to meet him one day.
when he got ben stiller to crack was the best for me...because ben stiller's dad never once cracked on seinfeld, and he probably instilled that kind of resolve into his son too
Martin Short has always made me laugh. Not a lot of people like his movie Clifford, but his character makes me crack up. Jiminy has a special place in my heart too. There are a few things he's said as Jiminy that I say to this day.
Younger Seinfeld was on constant offensive to try and stay ahead which kind of worked but didn't allow for the full comedy to brew. Older Seinfeld was more mellow and it was funnier.
Ricky is trying to play the straight man because he’s a fan. Ricky is good at improv haha he just knows his role because Martin needs to be the ridiculous one hahah.
Hands down Martin Short is one the most consistently funny men to ever grace this world. And Glick is by far his most entertaining persona, can watch him over and over.
That Ricky Gervais bit “....That’s a wonderful, little story you told” makes me chuckle every time! Only recently found these Jiminy Glick interviews and have come to love Martin Short even more because of them!
And after all, how much is a Canadian treasure worth? And when you take of 24% for the exchange rate, it's not worth much in the U.S. BTW, I'm American of 50% French Canadian descent. Je me souviens! What do I remember? I don't know, I forgot!
Martin Short always one of my favorites. Began watching him in the very early 80s. He was hilarious on SCTV, he was hilarious on SNL. He was hilarious in the movies. He's hilarious now. The man is genius. One of the greats.
I have never laughed so hard in my life!! His guests were doing everything they could to keep it together but with little luck. I think people use the "comic genius" to often but in his case it's absolutely warranted. I'm going to recommend this video to everyone I see.
Thank you for doing this. I saw a moment that I feared I might never see again. A moment I think is one of the greatest little gems ever.. When he asks Mel Brooks "What's your beef with the nazis?" Mel's reaction is so great.
I love that out of all the people who could've surprised him enough to break character, it was Tom Hanks. That Mel Brooks interview is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
I like it when they try and break Martin's character, but he ends up breaking them down first. Its the best seeing comedians trying to make eachother laugh.
