Whose turn is it next? Indulge me...
This one was a long, LONG time coming. Mounting real life issues, purchasing two VHS copies of the expansion because one was in severely rough shape (One was actually so bad, it got eaten by my old VCR and promptly finished it off), only for this one to have issues too.
But with a few new tools under my belt and a lot of experience doing this now, I think this turned into the best one yet! Bathory is about to make every other host jealous!
So, some trivia as always:
-One of the reasons this took so long was audio desync issues. I'm not sure if it was my tape, my recording, the upscale, or that this is just always a problem with Bathory. I synced up other Nightmare IV RU-vid uploads with mine and theirs desync in OTHER places compared to mine, so I can't be sure. Regardless, with some audio mixing magic, it's completely resolved!
-You'll notice a lot of tracking lines during the tape, much more than any other tape upscale. I did what I could to fix it up, but a lot of it is the fault of this tape, and Bathory ones aren't cheap to come across. This is the best condition tape I own, so apologies if it's too noticeable in places.
-The 4K timer overlay needed more of a drop shadow this time to obscure the original timer, but you'll still occasionally see it (particularly whenever there's a 1). I wanted to keep a careful balance of the shadow not obscuring the background and Bathory, but covering up enough of what needed to be there.
-Bathory, much like with Anne, has a few spots in the audio where it sounds like she's talking out of a soda can, as there's a weird pop. This is present in the original tape too! Thankfully, with new audio restoration tools, this has all been resolved!
So what comes next? Well I would love to get my hands on Soul Rangers and the booster tapes for Atmosfear: The Harbingers, but both are a bit difficult to acquire (The booster tapes are collector's items at this point), but if I do ever acquire either, you'll be sure to see them!
Other than that, with all the time spent doing this and new software, I think it would be great to go back and give these improvements to the first two tapes, as they could benefit from them! I'll keep you all informed on if I decide to go that route!
Before anything of that happens, I'll need to step up production on Gate Cleaner again. After nearly a year of making the promise that Elizabeth was "Coming Soon", I'm thrilled you can all finally experience it in 4K and HD!
