Feeling unsafe at home is not normal. Every third woman in India faces violence at home. Domestic violence can be physical, emotional, verbal, sexual and/or financial.

Isolating women from their support systems - parents, siblings, friends - and damaging their relationships with others is a big part of domestic abuse. This allows the perpetrator to have greater control over the relationship and make the survivor feel completely dependent and without support. The shame and silence that surrounds domestic violence prevents many survivors from reaching out for help.
