I've quietly watched you for years, and plan to stay. All I have to say to this video is: One life, it's yours, not anyone else's.

Thank you for your honesty and for being authentic. The truth is there are a lot of people making beautiful art - there’s no shortage of art to admire (which is how it’s supposed to be, full of life not competition). But it’s harder to find artists to connect with, ones that make you feel encouraged, inspired, and not alone. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in performance and expectations, but ultimately you’re a person. I watch because I connected with you and your mental health journey. Just hearing you talk about procrastination or writing five things down in your journal and only get to two is huge for me. I’m struggling to accept progress verses completion and adjust my to-do list according to my emotional capabilities. All that’s to say I support you and look forward to seeing more of you :)

I’ve only been following you for a couple of years now and I have really enjoyed your content. I don’t think you’re alone in questioning your future direction on RU-vid. A lot of creators are publishing similar vlogs. Heading in a direction that shares more of your real life while you create is a very special thing. Please keep looking after yourself though. I really miss old art RU-vid videos of speedpaints and voiceovers of the art process. I know they’re not popular anymore but I really loved them. Also travel art vlogs, urban sketching and things along those lines. ☺️

I can't begin to comprehend what you go through but if it helps maybe try some peppermint discs and twinnings lemon and ginger tea. They both have helped me a lot and I can go in depth if you like. The only thing I would ask is if you would please maybe consider making another travel art kit video or if you have any tips itd be appreciated. Im trying to get my art stuff sorted and theres all these bags I have and pochade boxes and everything its doing my head in. Totally agree with your sentiments in the beginning, sometimes youtube can be such a hostile place. I also feel this time to time and try to ignore the haters! But yeah it's kind of the youtube culture to be super anal and picky with things people do in videos. Hope you can get to enjoying it again, vlogging defo helps me when I'm feeling a bit burnt out with youtube stuff.

I love this! Looking forward to a new style, happier, HulloAlice ❤️. I am so, so happy that you are NOT going to continue to struggle down that dark road of forcing yourself to make content that YOU are not interested in, just because of ratings. Personally speaking, I am not at all interested in any of the ‘I tried painting the Mona Lisa with Crayola Crayons’ type of stuff...even though it seems to be popular. And beginning-to-end art instruction videos, although useful, often send me to sleep 🤣. I would much rather see a happy, entertaining studio vlog, mostly unedited, with snippets of information and education and appropriate small voice-over sections. It makes so much more sense to interchange the presentation and content because it keeps the whole video fresh and easy to watch. Also Happy Alice is a joy to listen to and I also loved that you showed your space in all it’s messy-ness. That’s what real art studios look like, and it lends encouragement to those artists who are using a cramped corner of the kitchen table, or who think they can’t create art without an aesthetically pleasing space. Happy Alice’s enthusiasm is contagious and encourages people to have a go at creating themselves. And don’t forget that Nana Judi used weed to help with her pain and medical conditions. There shouldn’t be anyone that you feel the need to hide this from!

Baylee was the first artist I started following on RU-vid. I think I found her from searching copic markers. I think you should do whatever you want in your videos. It seems like the algorithms torment youtube artists. Your fans are following you because we like you and your work.

Hey, so I know a little of how you feel. I was born with JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) and have been living with it now for what's slowly coming up on 38 years. As a kid, I was always super against anything "drug" related. That said, I'm also a massive proponent of the ideal. "Live and let live" so I never thought any differently of people who did do drugs. The reason I put "'drugs" in quotations because I relied on prescription medication throughout this time, and technically those are also drugs. On top of that, I don't really consider pot a drug. I mean, I know it is technically, but it's healthier than smoking cigarettes, messes you up less than alcohol, and isn't even illegal anymore here where I livr (Canada.) I have tried it for my Arthritis pain, although unlike your experience, it didn't do enough for me to spend time and money using it. That said, I really gained a healthy respect for how amazing a plant it really is for some people. I just wish it didn't have such a terrible reputation. Anyhow, I use now and again for my anxiety and stomach issues so I didn't abandon it when I learned that it didn't have an effect on my pain. :/ Anyway, just wanted to offer my solidarity and reaffirm that we're here for you! I wish you all the best and I sincerely wish the best for you ♡.

I subscribed to this channel for art content, but I also subscribed for HulloAlice content. Your personality was always a part of your videos, so if you're going to be making more vlog-like stuff, it's a bonus really!

In general, RU-vid is a platform that eats itself. The algorithm destroys channels on the regular. You have other aspects of your art that you do that you love, so put those first and see youtube as a platform to wave a flag around to point people to those other aspects of your work. Do not worry about the numbers or the "is this the right content" or any of that. Do what feels right to you. Your views and other stats will tank regardless of anything that you do because that's just how youtube does it; it's just a chaos engine that way. So don't be afraid of putting up the "wrong" thing, and just ignore the people who just seem to be showing up to get offended, same as you would if that person was yelling at you from across the road. Those who appreciate you will be reasonable, and those who don't never mattered anyway. Good luck with your experimentations!

This might sound a bit harsh but it's not hate and comes from frustration with the art community on RU-vid and it's not entirely about you. I probably have watched about 10 people saying similar stuff this week and it's the last straw 😂I have followed you for years and will stick around anyway. I follow hundreds of art channels and it's annoying to see all of them following trends and suddenly all vlogging. Of course I enjoy vlogs too but of those I have watched for long and feel a connection with.I don't necessarily care what some random youtuber eats for lunch when their channel is for art.The style fits Baylee her personality and young following and doesn't mean it will work for all.Afterall how many vlogs can we watch and who is doing art videos then?! The other thing that's grating on my nerves is many RU-vidrs moaning about not liking what they do whilst saying RU-vid it's their full time job.If it's a job then treat it like a job!How many of us enjoy our jobs or every aspect of it?! We have to do it despite taking abuse, not liking it etc.At least RU-vidrs have the freedom to change what they do and choose, no one is forcing them to do it in a certain way.And if it's a job then of course plan holidays and breaks, do something fun and for yourself too after, have a life-work balance etc.That being said 😁 you Alice don't have to hide who you are and worry about not being liked! Just be yourself, and if you have the freedom to change whatever and enjoy what you're doing then why not?! I don't mind the marijuana I guess you only have to be mindful not to forget the art and transform this into a different kind of channel (there are plenty like that on RU-vid so could have a separate one only for that). Don't feel pressured to follow trends though, people will get fed up and bored of vlogs soon especially since all art channels are doing it now and it's harder to find just art videos. You gained this following for other reasons( useful and well explained tutorials,passion for art, personality etc) and if it's an art channel people are always going to look for art first. So forget trends and do your own thing and whatever kind of art you enjoy!Hope you won't take this as hate as this is not intended to upset you. I don't normally comment but to me it almost sounded like you feel forced to do vlogs which bring the additional pressure of revealing other aspects of your life the audience might not like etc.Please don't, keep posting art and don't worry, your channel will be fine 😁

I have enjoyed your channel. How do I say this without being mean? I don't really want to know about your medication regimen, to regularly watch you clean, or to watch your cats play for more than a few seconds. I think that videos need bits of your personality and a focus on things you are passionate about, but they also need a clear vision and editing. Stream of consciousness may be easy and fun, but it gets boring pretty quickly. If art and RU-vid are your job, then a job, however enjoyable, sometimes requires hard work to produce something you are proud of. Expecting any honest pursuit to be endlessly fun seems a little too adolescent for a 30-year-old. I will continue to watch your channel if it has content and flare, and even slices of your life and passion. However, this episode was scattered and dull, not worthy of your talent.

This comment may get buried but on the off chance you see it, I think you should take the channel in a direction that is 100% you and those that love you for who you are will stay. There's quite a few RU-vidrs that I like but mostly just follow on insta bc while I love their art and they inspire me, I don't find much joy in just watching a faceless hand create and there be no voiceover or any way to feel the vibes of the other person. Also, when you're happy, it'll make those watching happy. So I truly believe that when you find the way to create that you find the most comfort in, people will still love to watch you and just love you as a person.

I only recently found you and I will be staying. First of all you must must do what makes you joyful. Secondly you aren't a "stoner" you are taking a medicine because you have a chronic physical illness. I struggle with alot of self loathing and self disgust because I have a chronic pain disease and I have to consume narcotic pain meds daily in order to function. So it's your life you must deal with it the best way you know how and I personally don't expect you to go around throwing up all day every day.

First, you do what you want. You're a cool person and a great artist, and doing what you want should work out just fine. :) Second, you said you enjoy filming videos but hate editing them. Could you outsource your editing somehow? If you can't afford to just pay someone to edit your videos, could you, say, help a good editor generate content, or design merch for them, or something like that? It seems you should be able to get editing help. Maybe ask Jazza how he moved in that direction, when he first did? Third, as someone who majored in history and took a few anthropology classes too :) hunter-gatherers (AKA foraging people) were actually very healthy and had good lifespans. Settling down to practice agriculture was actually a move in the direction of a harder life, more disease (both pathogen based and that caused by nutritional deficiencies), and a shorter lifespan. The positives were that agriculture allowed the same amount of land to support more people, and helped relieve the growing population pressure, and that staying in one place allowed for the accumulation of (heavy, not easily portable or not portable at all) possessions. There weren't a lot of physical arts (painting, sculpture, that kind of thing) during the migratory foraging periods because people could only own what they could carry with them. Even stone tools were often left behind and made fresh when they reached a new camp. If you were a hunter-gatherer, you probably wouldn't be able to be an artist, and that'd suck. :/

If you don’t want to edit videos, would it be possible to get someone to edit them for you. I don’t know if you can do that, but I know some people (Caitlin Doughty) do that with theirs. That way you can record the videos but the editing is no longer a focus. You can just focus on the you part.

Alice, this is phenomenal. I love hearing you say that you want to share more genuine things on YT. I think this is my favorite video so far. I’m looking forward to seeing more vlogs (*if* that’s what makes you happy) and for the experimental phase you’re going to be on!!

I went through savage burn out on a form of art. I did it for nearly 20 years and sold to the public as a job. Now I can't stand the thought of picking up a brush and doing that particular art. This is such a hard thing to deal with, particularly for an artist. You need to do what is going to make you happy, healthy and helps you grow as an artist. If that means shifting over to Etsy or Twitch more than RU-vid that's okay. If you need shift your content for YT to avoid the burnout, that's okay too. It's necessary and healthy. Take care of yourself! Find your balance - whatever it takes. Whatever happens (and it probably won't be nearly as horrible as what goes through your mind because that's human nature) YT will take care of itself. Your health is 110% more important.

I can relate to your honesty in the beginning, and the truth is I feel like everything RU-vid artist comes to want to do their own thing, not what people expect of them or the perception of that. So happy that you are finding happiness. I do not use weed, but only because my job makes it problematic. However my boyfriend has severe anxiety and insomnia and is able to live a much better, more comfortable and fulfilling life because of weed. When you actually see how much it can help a person's quality of life it's almost impossible to be against it. I have never really been that interested in videos drawing people. My art is all surreal and abstract landscapes. But I keep watching because you have always been a calm inspiring person. Excited to see your new content!! Do what brings you joy. 🥰

I applaud you for coming on here and being honest, that took a lot of courage. As a person that also has severe anxiety and has struggled to get their channel up and going because of anxiety I totally get it. Do what makes you happy. I personally love studio vlogs, and your art, so be yourself and I will still be here. I need to start trying to catch your streams more often. I just haven't had the chance lately. I am SOOO happy for you! I am also on medical THC for chronic nerve damage from a root canal gone horribly wrong! 6 surgeries later and that is the only thing that helps! I even have a cadaver nerve in my face! (I know gross). The nerve was also clipped at the base of my brain, nothing helped till now! I guess what i'm trying to say is be happy with you and the ones that truly love you will be here for you!! I have been watching you forever and am not going Anywhere!!
