A soldier's reflective, poignant journey as a combat photographer, through Vietnam and beyond. This presentation is adapted from a highly personal, sometimes light-hearted, always thought provoking, one man play, written and performed by Stu Richel. His combat photos enhance his Vietnam experience stories in a visually stunning, non-gory, nonpolitical, and non-judgmental manner.

I always had great respect for those who served in Vietnam. I've worked with some vets and heard their stories. I remember as a kid watching the evening news and hearing about the casualties, ect.

Thank you for your service, sir, in Vietnam. And to all our veterans who have served in wars. I loved the story you wrote and acted in. I felt all your emotions overwhelming with a touch of many colors. All have men and women have their stories. May we all remember all with reverence and hopefully one day have no need for more wars. 🙏 ❤ My brother was on the USS Liberty Navel Ship, 1967, 6 day war. He was older than me, but how I adored him. He came home and never was the same man again. He cracked up and was shattered until he was shoved into another oncoming vehicle that pushed him into another oncoming car. My brother was killed instantly, the two others in the other vehicle was badly harmed. The driver of the truck who caused the damage was never found. This happened on July 2, 1983.. May we all also remember the American navel men who perrished on that ship and those that survived and even those that lived who now has gone and those that are left and their families. I think of them always as I honor all our veterans. America history and world histories. With the deepest appreciation and respect for yours. 🙏❤

Excellent! Thank you for your service, sir. I never served in the military narrowly missing Vietnam by a scant six months or so as the draft ended but I am drawn to all Vietnam era documentaries. I want to learn and experience through the eyes and the stories of those who served. Many thanks again for this piece and for those that collaborated with you.

Thank you for a lifetime of service to our great country. Florio's eh? My wife is taking me to New York this year for my first time. She was visiting New York on 9/11. I was on a machine gun range at Camp Lejeune while she was on the battle field in New York that day. And make no mistake, New York city was a battle field that day. She's seen tragedy as have I following 9/11. She still tears up when she talks about it. Some tears of sorrow but some are tears of pride. Proud how a city as big as New York, with how fast it moves, no time to talk, the crime and the violence we're all aware of, stopped all that shit in a time of crisis. Perfect strangers walking ground zero trying to get to the survivors. People on the street walking out to assist the people fleeing, who had made it out of there by the skin of their teeth. Homes opening to people they had never met, but they needed help. she fell in love with the United States because of the compassion she saw in New York City on 9/11 as a result of what some crazy religious fanatic had done to us. My wife was visiting from Japan then. I didn't know her yet, I was just a kid trying to look tough in a Marine uniform. She decided this is where she wanted to live. I met her some years after my tour in Iraq. She saved me from myself many times over. Anyways, Florio's Ristorante! We will be stopping in to eat there on our trip. thank you for the tip! And God Bless you sir! Semper Fi

My wife is Vietnamese.....and was 12 years old when Saigon fell in 75. She worships all Vietnam Veterans and despises her former county for begging America to send her sons to die for an ungrateful people. Her uncles were all officers in the South Vietnamese Army, Navy and Air Force. Those who survived paid heavy with ten year prison sentences in jungle camps and permanent banishment from living in cities. Thank you and every veteran for sacrificing so much for so little in return 🙏🙏

It was the right thing trying to keep communism out of Vietnam, it was wrong for the politicians and the hippies to hog tie our boys from doing their job and winning. Also it was wrong for both FDR and Eisenhower to NOT keep the promise made to try and get the French out of Vietnam like we had promised Ho Chi Min in exchange for fighting the japs during ww2.

To all the military veterans from USA and Allies having participated in Korean War and Vietnam War, thank you for your service for trying to contain the spread of the deadly and toxic Communism which remains an existential threat to individual freedom, human dignity, and basic decency worldwide even to these days. Commies are a stain on humanity! Perhaps just like the South Korean, the South Vietnamese feel forever grateful and indebted to the sacrifices of US and Allie troops during the eternal fight between good versus evil.

Ive always thought that General Westmoreland was THE wrong guy fir the job he sent out troops into NAM guns blazing WW2 style and thoses tactics wont work in a freaking jungle against unconventional enemies using gorilla tactics we were fighting Gorilla forces AND conventional Forces at the same time the Viet Cong and the NVA and then not takeing territory instead relying on the body count as a metric also us not pursuing the Vietcong into cambodia and laous full force disnt help either every time we would have the vietcong seemingly cornered they would just run deep into Cambodia or laous and resupply regroup allowing their hit and run tactics to be to that much more effective just my humble opinion ✌️🇺🇸 btw i spoke about this with my uncle who did 3 tours in NAM Army infantry i respect that man and ALL other Vietnam vets ALL American Vets for that matter ( I misspelled a few words in this post im just to lazy to go back through and correct them sorry for the errors)

The War in Vietnam was a living hell on this earth. But most Veterans from the US Army haven't gotten enough fair treatment from the US citizens so far. They tried their best to maintain Vietnam's democracy but many thoughtless Americans used to criticize Veterans in the Vietnam War. That's unfair. All Veterans in the US Army should be respected by the US citizens unconditionally since they devoted their precious lives to protect the value of Democracy. Americans should focus on the point. Defenders should be respected by normal citizens and that should become a principle of human societies no matter what.

To all US Vietnam Vet. You should blame that on your parents and grandparents and all those fellow Americans of yours who voted for Democrats President Truman, JF Kennedy, and LB Johnson as United States commander in Chief. Because they were one who brought communist to Vietnam and started the Vietnam War. US Democracts President Truman was the 1st US President who got Americans involve in Vietnam when he sent the 1st US MAAG to assist the French to recolonize Vietnam in 1950. Then US Democrats President JF Kennedy stage a military coup on South Vietnam President, Ngo Dinh Diem giving America power to start a War and to do what ever they wish to Vietnam and its Vietnamese peoples. And appoint an ex-Vietminh soldiers, Nguyen Van Thieu as their puppet President of South Vietnam to replace Ngo Dinh Diem after the military coup assination on Nov. 2, 1963. The following year on August 4, 1964. US Democrats President LB Johnson announce to the American peoples about the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Where a US Destroyer Maddox was patroiling at sea past the 17th parallel DMZ near the capital of communist North Vietnam, Hanoi which allege to be attack by North Vietnamese PT boats. That didn't happen according to John White a nuclear weapon officier on the US Destroyer Maddox. Without the South Vietnamese President declare military action or War on North Vietnam. US Democrats President LB Johnson push for military action against North Vietnam which lead to the start of the Vietnam War. American peoples did this to Vietnam and all the 58,000 US killed during the Vietnam by electing Truman, JF Kennedy and LB Johnson as their US Commaner in Chief. America brought War, death, and pain to the Vietnamese peoples of Vietnam. 3,000,000 innocents Vietnamese civilian had to die in their own country. While 10s of thousands Vietnamese die at sea of hunger, thirst, and illness as refugee. All those US President were all US War Vets.

You know during the Vietnam War there were a lot case of US ground troops commit a lot of attrocities toward many South Vietnamese villagers during their "Search and Destroy Mission." Many were never reported and a lot was being covered up by US General William Childs Westmoreland. There were many US ground troops saw the attrocities done by their fellow American troops and did nothing. While other participate. Vietnamese peoples were the victim of the Vietnam War. Even though many Vietnamese didn't start the War and didn't ask for it. That was the decision by the American peoples who voted for Democrats President JF Kennedy and LB Johnson as their Commander in Chief for their country. And Democrats President Truman who brought Communist support to Vietnam by allowing and supporting France to reclaim Vietnam as their colony. A country who value their freedom and independence from England. Deny other country of their own. America has never a democracy country. America is a Republic.

American peoples in America didn't protest when Truman and JF Kennedy was President. Because these two US Presidents got America involve in Vietnam. Before US President Truman sent US MAAG to Vietnam none of the Vietnamese knew anything about America. Majority of Vietnamese in Vietnam just want to be left alone until the French sent their French Warship to Vietnam on Nov. 23, 1946 and bomb the city of Haiphong killing 6,000 local Vietnamese and anger an entire country. US President Trumam could've step in and told France government that they can't be doing that to Vietnam. But instead he allow France to re-colonize Vietnam and disregard a letter of support for Vietnam Independence from France from Ho Chi Minh. Which cause Ho Chi Minh to seek support from communist Soviet Union and China. This is how and why Vietnam became a communist country today. Just to let you know and all American Vietnam Viet. knows. That majority of Vietnamese in Vietnam from both North and South did Not want to go to War and kill against one or another over the idea of communist or democracy. Why both leaders from North and South Vietnam couldn't rally enough support for War against one or the other. Even though both government believe that Vietnam should not be divided. Until US President JF Kennedy stage a military coup assination on a Catholic South Vietnamese president, Ngo Dinh Diem on Nov. 3, 1963 and appointed their puppet ex-Vietminh soldier, Nguyễn Văn Thiệu as President of South Vietnam. After military coup assination on a Catholic South Vietnamese president, Ngo Dinh Diem, giving America all right of control of Vietnam and its Vietnamese peoples. Why US President LB Johnson started the Vietnam War and call it US Military action over the Gulf of Tonkin incident 1964. Which involve a US Destroyer Maddox was patrol past the 17th Parallel near the capital of North Vietnam, Hanoi. While assist the South Vietnamese army against the North Vietnamese. 40% of Blacks male was sent to fight in Vietnam, along with all the 18yr old white male High School drop out, non college white males, convicts, and all their problem was sent to fight in Vietnam. During the entire Vietnam War, America not once launch a full US ground invasion of North Vietnam fear it might become like the Korean War. With Communist China sending nonstop 100's of thousands Chinese troops against US troops and the threat of a thermal nuclear War with the Soviet Union. The Vietnamese are the victims of the Vietnam War. Their home was bomb burn by US military during their Search and Destroyed mission. While their forest and rivers was spray by US biological chemical, Agent Orange, which many young South Vietnamese childrens who born in that area are being infected with it even today. At the end, America withdrawl their military troops back home and have No remores to what they did to the Vietnamese peoples. 3,000,000 had to die in their country during the War and while ten of thousands of Vietnamese died at sea as refugee from hunger, disease, Thai pirates, and Chinese warship. For those who made to America in 1975 had to deal with discimination, racist, and blame for the War and the lives 58,000 US killed during the Vietnam. Not once Americans never blame themselve for electing Truman, JF Kennedy, and LB Johnson as their commander in chief of their country. The Vietmamese are the real victim of the Vietnam.
