I retired after almost 30 years as a 911 dispatcher and I echo the fire chief in strongly encouraging people to maintain a landline for 911 use. The triangulation of towers that ping a cell phone signal rarely provides pinpoint accuracy and in an emergency every second definitely counts

Wonderful video! I live in the North end of the villages and can attest the villages fire station on this end is very busy and always arrives first before the “blue ambulances” for house calls. Very educational and enjoyed the tour of the fire station. A shout out to our first responders in The Villages!!

When I had a heart attack last fall, emergency medical personnel arrived at my home in under 5 minutes. I thought that was amazing. My 911 call from my cell went to Douglas County Wisconsin and I live in Duluth Minnesota which is St Louis County. Happens all the time. Great video guys

Thank you Chief Cain! I went through a house fire 20 years ago. We had a traditional phone line, not a cable based. We couldn’t call 911 because phone line had burned. In that scenario we had our cell phones by our bed. I liked though your explanation regarding using a cable tv based telephone line vs cell phone. 👍 Thank you! Firemen are a blessing!!

Last week Sheriff Bill Farmer, today Fire Chief Ed Cain, you are covering all the bases.. I had no idea so much was involved in these life saving services! My hats off to all of these men and women. Last week the Sheriff, now the Fire Chief. Sometimes we forget those who work in the background to make us feel safe, secure and help us in life emergencies. Thank you Jerry & Linda for putting them in the spotlight. My question for Fire Chief Cain would've been the same as yours: If I can slide down to the pole and drive the fire truck 😜. Excellent interview, J&L!! Working there would be like a retirement station compared to ours :D Three times the staff, more than twice the equipment, and about 25% of the call volume compared to our fire department. Good to know as a prospective resident...those fast response times and extra staff are very good. Looks like the 3 platoons lock up their food too! Hopefully the sitch with the AMR for-profit transport company gets ironed out fast, as well as the tower cell recognition technology. Thanks for sharing...Gizmo should be the honorary firehouse dog!!

The majority of elderly residents (80+) live on the historic side which is covered by the Paradise fire station. Their medical emergency rate is the highest.

Hello Jerry and Linda! Love your vids and watch them all. I have some constructive feedback on the sound quality. Just before watching this video, I was listening to one of Skip Smith’s videos. Then this one followed it. What I noticed is that the sound quality on his was crystal clear. Then this video came on and sounded muddled as compared to his. It looks like he has a fancy microphone. Just FYI.

Great interview with the fire chief. I am curious to know if they have many homes to become partially or fully engulfed with fire and if so how seriously damaged were the homes next to the house on fire? Because of the closeness of the homes in the Villages.

The hotels have nothing to do with the amenities. You must be a resident or the guest of a resident to participate. The evening entertainment is open to the public at no charge.

IMO, getting a landline is a giant step backwards. Google, Apple, & Amazon can pinpoint your exact location with today’s technologies. Triangulation is no longer necessary. Take the driverless cars for example. A GPS can pinpoint your exact location. The Villages ought to get the 911 emergency communications services synchronized with mobile phone technology.

Don't pay the extra $10 for a land line. a few weeks ago, i accidently and unknowingly hit the 911 button, then hit the reboot button, a few minutes later my phone was ringing. it was from the 911 office, she wanted to know the emergency and i told her, no emergency here. She knew my name and address, and i didn't give it to her. Big brother is watching you, whether you know it or not. Yes, it was an Apple iphone.
